Sci-Fi Channel Sucks March 13, 2008

We here at ShowMeSciFi.com have written many times about the boneheads (no offense intended to any species that are actually boneheads like Klingons or Minbari) that run NBC Universal’s SciFi Channel unit.

I mean what were they thinking with Flash Gordon?

Apparently we’re not the only ones who think Sci-Fi Channel has gone downhill. In fact there is now a very long thread over on Sci-Fi.com with viewers complaining all about the suckyness and non-SciFi programming on Sci-Fi Channel.

What will it take to get Sci-Fi Channel back on track?

That’s EASY. Just put someone in charge of the network that is an actual Sci-Fi fan. Get the rights for Firefly. Bring back Stargate SG-1. License Star Trek. Produce more original shows instead of just rehashes. and then of course reruns of Space1999, Buck Rogers, Forgotten Planet, Babylon 5, Classic Battlestar Galactica the list goes on and on for the shows they could have but don’t – because they SUCK.

Here, here and Hurrah! Nice to see that I am not alone in the sentiment. If I had 1/2 a brain and a butt load of money, I would make my own version of the scifi channel that caters to our needs and not to those who love wresting or soap operas like passions. I understand the need to bring in new viewers with the results have sucked beyond belief. There was a time where I never had the scifi channel and was envious of those who did. Once I did, I found my home and discovered new friends to call my own like MST3k and Farscape. Now, I don’t even know who or what the scifi channel is anymore. : (

i agree. i am so angry that there used to be a channel for “science fiction geeks or die hards” that a sport, like “wrestling” or just the fact that it goes to infomercials after a certain hour, has infected a would be cool idea for a network. theres obviously enough people that would be happy to just watch “true scifi” to keep it going, or there wouldnt be movies like the new star trek or prometheus, or etc…its obvious to me that its a big industry and enough channels to put sports or reality shows on. they need to make a scifi 2 channel for people like me or us. i love 60’s and 70’s scifi and theres enough of that to play constantly. especially late night. thats when the good cheesy stuff should be played. what happened to the good shows that were hosted by true fans?

I whole heartly agree, with all the above statements, except I must admit I did enjoy Flash Gordon. I do not watch ECW, any Ghost Hunters. I have watched Enterprize some of the Dresden Files which it seems everyone except me loved, But I agree SciFi should have more SCiFi programing! ( WHAT A NOVEL CONCEPT)

I was turned off Flash Gordon by the Hawkmen episode. Good God, that was awful. I really wanted to like the series, but that episode was just insultingly bad. And I already had a problem that both Earth and Mongo looked like Toronto and environs. I guess the budget was so low they couldn’t really do anything with the show. But “Flesh Gordon,” that porn parody from the 70s, had to have been done on the cheap, too, and it looked great.

I’m leaving the url of an article I wrote about a kinky scene from the Flash Gordon series, but be aware it has some NSFW images on it.
