Today is the day. Star Wars Legacy of the Force Exile hits the shelves TODAY.
I’ve written about t
his book before, it’s one i’ve been waiting for…It’s the fourth book in the series (So far there have been three previous Star Wars Legacy of the Force books (Betrayal 
We won’t however likely find out Jacen Solo’s Sith name. The contest for that was not wrapped up prior to publication so i don’t see anyway how Jacen could take his Sith name in this book.
It might happen in the next one though which is titled, “Sacrifice” which is expected to be released in June of this year.
I’ll start reading this tonight and will post a full review in a week or so when i’m done.

Battlestar Galactica ‘Dirty Hand’s’ was a pretty solid episode. No it’s not ‘hard’ science fiction but it speaks to the heart of what makes BSG great. Namely deep philosophical and ethical discussion about society.
Does where you are from and who your parents are dictate you will become?
It’s an age old question.
The only real surprise for me was that Baltar emerges as the ‘hero’ for the underclass, which was totally unexpected.
SciFi.com is running a contest now (click the pic link at the top of the post) about ‘Dirty Hands’. The question this week is whether the tylium workers were being treated unfairly?
As of the time of this posting 39% of respondents responded that they thought they were being treated unfairly. What do you think?
Oh and SciFi.com has also posted a bonus segment from the episode it gives a bit of insight into cali and tyrol but nothing too important. I’ve linked to a low-quality YouTube version below..enjoy!
Stephen King’s Dark Tower coming to the Big Screen February 26, 2007

First it was the books, now a comic book prequel and sometime soon…..A MOVIE.
Stephen King has confirmed that the Dark Tower movie is a go ahead.
According to a published report on SciFi.com King reportedly announced the news at the new york comic con.
I said no to everybody until recently, because I didn’t think much of the chances of it being a good movie,” King said in a panel discussion launching Marvel Comics’ new Dark Tower comic books at the New York City Comic Con on Feb. 24. “I mean, this is my life’s work, since the time I was 22 years old. It’s very important to me. Usually, with the other [books], I don’t give much of a s–t. My attitude is, ‘Go make a movie, and if it’s good, that’s terrific, and if it’s bad, then it will go to the video stores and back shelves of Blockbuster, and I still get royalties on the book.'”
The task of converting the Dark Tower saga will fall to Lost co-creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof. Considering how massive each of the Dark Tower books are and how ridiculously complicated and intertwined the story is i can hardly imagine how Dark Tower can become a single movie.
I can’t even imagine it becoming a three movie trilogy setup like Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings.
So how are they gonna do it?..Here’s my suggestion the prequel comic book series looks to be totally self contained..maybe the movie could be the prequel?

Just watched the latest episode of Chad Vader (episode 6) and it doesn’t dissapoint. Vader is sort of like odd job jack in this episode working as a telemarketer, a copier repairman and a taxi cab driver.
HILARIOUS.
Nice classic Vader lines laced throughout the vid and some real professional camerawork make Chad Vader my favorite ongoing YouTube series. Why ask a Ninja when you can watch a Sith?

SCIFIPEDIA vs. Wikipedia February 23, 2007

SciFi.com is now actively promoting its own SciFi wiki called SciFipedia. It’s an effort to build out a complete ‘encyclopedia’ of SciFi shows, characters, games and other such trivia.
SciFi.com is expecting/hoping that people will freely give up their time and knowledge to help build out the content. Not a bad idea and one that Wikipedia has proven works.
There is a big glaring monstrous problem with it though.
If you look closely at SciFipedia’s pages in particular the Terms of Use it becomes very apparent that Scifipedia is nothing like Wikipedia. First off Scifipedia content is not licensed under any real open content license like Creative Commons or the GNU Free Documentation License. What that means in normal human speak is that you can’t freely use any content from Scifipedia.

Wikipedia is totally different in that the GNU Free Documentation license and Creative Commons licenses are all about letting information be free. Part of the incentive of contribution is knowing that you’re setting information free for any/all to benefit from.
Speaking of contributions, at Wikipedia anyone can contribute at any time. There is no need to register if you don’t want too. I’ve contributed many hundreds of entries to wikipedia and have never once registered.
With Scifipedia you have to register or you can’t contribute.
The policy for SCIFIPEDIA is that only registered members will be allowed to contribute entries. The registration will be handled though the SCIFI.COM main website, and registered SCIFI.COM members need only log in. A name and email address will be required, and you’ll need to follow an authentication procedure to become a registered member.
Bummer.
Then last but perhaps most importantly is the fact that Scifipedia has only 4,710 entries or 
so. Wikipedia greatly outstrips that already, containing the same and alot more in SciFi than SciFipedia.
So what am I saying?
I’m saying if you’re going to give of your own free time and will to help enrich and educate why not do so in the most free, most collaborative and most used media the world has ever known. Forget about scifipedia – contribute to Wikipedia.

Kevin Rubio’s Troops is perhaps the greatest star wars fan film ever made (with a nod to Hardware Wars of course).
But what Troops didn’t have is the hard edge..the real life pandemonium and vulgarity that for better or for worse we expect in 2007.
Then along comes this vid, titled ‘Stabbing at Leia’s 22nd Birthday’. It’s a 2007, harsher, cruder version of troops.

The first Battlestar Galactica comic series that I read from Dyanamite was decent but not dynamite (gotta love puns). Zarek is another story altogether.

IT’S DYNOMITE.
The only reason why anyone cares about Zarek in the show is because the character is played by Classic Battlestar Galactica veteran Richard Hatch. The Zarek comic dives deep into Zarek’s past and in 
the first two issues that i’ve read thus far, provides a riveting tale that kept me turning the pages.
The art in this series is also very solid, morso than in the Dynamite’s regular Battlestar Galactica comic.
This is SciFi comic book story telling at its finest and is definitely not to be missed.
Star Wars : The Force Unleashed Lucas’ next great game February 21, 2007

No it’s not KOTOR III. But yes it is the next greatest thing to happen to Star Wars Gaming.
LucasArts has announced a November shipping date for Star Wars The Force Unleashed which should be available for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and PSP. It is unclear whether a Wii version is in the cards.
LucasArts is claiming that the new game will introduce all kinds of new gaming innovations – as well as a new playable dark lord wannabe.
The Star Wars saga continues this November in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice” and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi – and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

We’ve known since early this year that Dr. Carson Beckett would be leaving Stargate Atlantis. We also know that Beckett is being replaced by actress Jewel Staite from Firefly
Though in North America Stargate Atlantis Season 3 is currently on hiatus until April, Stargate’s producers have already filmed the rest of the season –
In fact if you don’t want to wait until April (or later) to see the most important moment of Season 3, you don’t have too.

Col. Carter Set to Join Stargate Atlantis crew full time. February 20, 2007

Amanda Tapping who plays Lt. Col. Samantha Carter on Stargate SG-1 is moving to Stargate Atlantis as a full time character starting with season 4.
Stargate SG-1 ends its 10 year run this year and will live on in direct to DVD movies.
Tapping is now signed up to be in 14 of Atlantis’s 20 episodes. Will she end up as McKay’s love interest (hope not)?! With two braniacs on the Atlantis base, i hope the action quotient stays high..and hey Col Carter is certainly no stranger to action.
Battlestar Galactica comics – issues 0-4 February 20, 2007

I finally got around to picking up the new Battlestar Galactica comic book series from Dynamite.
Starting with issue #0 this series puts readers head first into the action. For those that haven’t been watching or following the new BSG on TV – forget about this comic you’ll be totally lost.
For those who follow the show, who just can’t get enough with a weekly fix..the comic books are good outlet.
Though i only picked up the first five issues, it get a bit confusing
since Dynamite publishes 4 or more covers for each issue. I understand why they do that but it’s not like i’m going to buy all four cover variants anyway.
The series (at least issue 0-5) take place in the middle of season two. I’m not sure and haven’t seen any evidence that states that the comic book is bona fide BSG canon. That aside the first story arc is kinda cool.
The Cylons were built by man. We know that. But we’ve not seen Cylons take commands (By Your Command) from humans. When Galactica stumbles upon an ancient Cylon fleet they end up as ‘slaves’ to the BSG crew and Adama.
There is also an interesting twist about how many Cylon models there are.
In the comic there are alot more models than in the show. Zak Adama in fact is one such Cylon re-creation. 
I’m not sure where it’s all headed but it is an interesting enough story line.
Art on the other hand is another story altogether.
Simply put i don’t care for the art in this series so far. Adama doesn’t look like Adama, President Roslyn is portrayed like Caprica Six which makes no sense to me. Overall characters don’t even come close to what they look like on TV, not even in a stylized comic book way.
Will I continue to buy BSG comics? Sure, i need as much BSG as I can find. But if you’re not a diehard, you could probably live without this series.

Nice solid episode. Apparently Baltar isn’t the only one with voices in his head – as Adama hears the voice of his dead wife. Does that mean the Adama’s are cylons too? Probably not.
This is one of those stories that is a character building episode – in this case more layers being added to the Adama story mostly with a little to Tyrol. Tyrol gets top billing in the next episode “Dirty Hands” where he organizes a strike – check out SciFi.com for the full preview.
Technorati doesn’t like free wordpress.com users February 18, 2007

There was a time when I though that Technorati was the ultimate blog search tool.
That is until i moved to wordpress.com and realized that Technorati is inferior to Google’s blog search in terms of getting new posts indexed. In fact Technorati in my opinion is so far behind Google in getting wordpress.com indexed that i think that wordpress.com users should avoid Technorati all together.
Allow me to fully explain.
Technorati has a description on it site of how to do automated ping for wordpress. The problem is that it doesn’t work with WordPress.com.
What really alarmed me and showed me how far behind Technorati is – comes from a recent experience where a post of mine was the top post on WordPress.com for the day. Technorati showed inbound links citing my post – but suprisingly the post itself was not listed in content feed for showmescifi.wordpress.com until nearly 12 days later.
I contacted Technorati several times over this period and all i ever got was a form email:

Now let’s take a look at Google’s blog search in comparison. Google is up to date for ShowMeSciFi.wordpress.com within 3 hours of a post. Technorati doesn’t even come close at anywhere from 2 days to almost 2 weeks even if I do a manual ping.
So the question is – what’s up with Technorati? Is it just for bloggers who host on their own? I used to wonder why Technorati was till independant and hadn’t been bought by Yahoo! Google or Microsoft. I think I now have part of my answer.
Star Wars : Legacy # 8 – The Sith Reclaim the Empire February 18, 2007

Just when I thought that Star Wars Legacy couldn’t get any better along comes this issue. It’s a flashback issue occurring before the events of the first issue – way before . We finally get to see how the Sith ended up in control of the Empire after the defeat of the Galactic Alliance, we also see that the rightful Emperor Roan Fel was not at fault for the massacre of the Jedi on Ossus.
The story is just awesome. If you’ve never read Legacy – this is an excellent issue to get started with.
The art ..well it’s not up to the same level as the first seven issues. There is a good reason for that..the art is not done by Jan Duursema. The Sith (particularly Darth Krayt) look kinda lame and overall it’s not the jaw dropping magnificence that the Duursema provides.
Apparently Jan Duursema is working ahead on the next story arc – so we the fans have to settle with second rate artists until her return…considering how awesome the story is…and with the expectation that Duursema is returning I suppose it’s a fair trade off.
The first issue of Legacy revealed the facts of the attack on the Jedi Academy on Ossus and of the betrayal of Emperor Roan Fel by Darth Krayt and the Sith. Now it is time to learn of the machinations and of the secret alliances behind those actions.
Grand Moff Nyna Calixte supervises intelligence gathering for the Empire. Darth Maladi does the same for the Sith. Together they could form an unbeatable team, able to sway the course of a galaxy. That is, if they don’t destroy one another first!
From the ambush of the Galactic Alliance’s fleet to Roan Fel’s narrow escape from assassination, the true story of the Sith overthrow of the Empire can at last be told!
Star Wars Outlander TPB – review February 17, 2007

My own personal hunt for Aurra Sing has led me to Star Wars Outsider.
Aurra Sing isn’t the major player in this trade paperback but she is still quite central – it’s more about another lost Jedi the ‘Outlander’ who unites the Tusken raiders of Tatooine.
A solid work with great art and a pretty decent story to boot.
Ki-Adi-Mundi’s first assignment after joining the Jedi Council will take him back to the fearsome desert wastelands of Tatooine. The Jedi Council has tracked a long wayward and powerful Jedi, Sharad Hett of the Sand People, to the backwater world, and it’s up to Ki to find him and convince him to return. Only two things stand in his way: the vicious krayt dragon of Tatooine and the Jedi-slaying bounty hunter Aurra Sing! Ki has little choice but to ask for help from the slimiest crime lord of them all, Jabba the Hutt — and Jabba’s aid always comes with a price! Outlander is full-throttle, white-knuckle Episode I-era adventure!
Battlestar Galactica – Direct to DVD movie in the works February 16, 2007

We know that SciFi.com has picked up Battlestar Galactica for a Fourth season,
We also know that there is a prequel in the works called ‘Caprica’ which is likely to appear in 2008
Caprica would take place more than half a century before the events that play out in Battlestar Galactica. The people of the Twelve Colonies are at peace and living in a society not unlike our own, but where high technology has changed the lives of virtually everyone for the better.
Apparently a BSG movie is in the works too that will be all about the original Cylon attack on the 12 Colonies as well as the escape of the Pegasus and Admiral Cain.
It kinda sounds like a Babylon 5 – In The Beginning – thing to me. Would be wickedly cool either way. Imagine – the entire colonial fleet spread across at least 12 worlds in full battle against the Cylon armada. Sure most of em are dead in space and get picked off like sittting ducks but still….

The Hunt for Aurra Sing
The first time I ever heard the name Aurra Sing was in the recent Star Wars Legacy of the Force Tempest novel in which Aurra is hired to kill Tenel Ka.
I then went on a hunt of my own a Hunt for Aurra Sing.
What a graphic novel phew. Great writing, great art and fantastic pacing.
She’s not a sith, but not exactly a Dark Jedi either (or is she?) But she is all business in the comic. I’m going to go on another hunt now and track down other Aurra Sing materials to flesh out my collection.

Good Episode. Helo is a great character and it’s great to see him getting the attention he deserves. A stand up officer and a guy that trusts his instincts.
What was also interesting is that Caprica Six still sees her vision of Baltar – we haven’t seen that in a while. What’s up with that anyways? I really hope that sometime before the show hits the end that the secret of that bond is finally exposed.

I found myself in New York City for work this week – and hey it’s new comics Wednesday so I headed to Midtown Comics on 40th and 7th Ave in Times Square.
BUSY BUSY BUSY – and this was in the middle of a freaking snow storm too.
More comics than my local home town seller that’s for sure…but something was missing.
I bought a large stash of comics (including many that i’ll end up reviewing on ShowMeSciFi) but NO BAG AND BOARD!
Maybe i’m spoiled or something but i’m used to getting a bag and board with all new comics. It’s just part of the service.
So Midtown comics…nice store lots of stuff but you guys SUCK and fail in my book for real comic customer service. Show some respect and bag and board your comics and respect that your customers are collectors and not children.
Battlestar Galactica RENEWED for Fourth Season! February 13, 2007

Praise be the lords of Cobol.
Battlestar Galactica is coming back for a fourth season. SciFi network is reporting that a formal deal has now been signed ensuring production of the fourth season.
Considering that it’s unlikely that BSG 75 would make it to Earth this year – or come close to resolving any of its myriad conflicts – makes me wonder why a Season 4 would ever have been in doubt.
I guess they could’ve gone the Stargate route and just put out direct to DVD movies . Thankfully that’s not the case.
Apparently the big episode that put Battlestar Galactica over the top is the “Taking a Break From All Your Worries,” episode which delivered 2.5 million total viewers and 1.6 million adults 18-49, the largest audience for any episode since the season-two premiere.
“We’re thrilled to bring Battlestar back for another season,” Mark Stern, SCI FI’s executive vice president of programming, said in a statement. “This series has delivered on every level, from the writing to the acting to the production values. SCI FI is proud to be the home of the best show on television.”
