I’ve finally finished Star Wars Legacy of the Force Book 6 Inferno – and I’m not angry or even disappointed. IN fact I think that Inferno is one of the better books in this whole series. Inferno follows follows Sacrifice, Exile, Betrayal
, Bloodlines and Tempest.
Star Wars Legacy of the Force Inferno is a pleasant reminder why I enjoy Star Wars books (especially Legacy of the Force) so very much. The last book Sacrifice, was a disaster in more ways than one. The worst offense (beyond killing Mara – oh and be sure to add your name to the Bring Back Mara Petition) was the trite, mundane and inspired writing that was offensively bad. Simply put Karen Travis shouldn’t be writing Star Wars.
Now Inferno by Troy Denning is another story altogether and a very good one at that. The prose is crisp, the descriptions are tight as is the plot. Without getting into details (last warning ahead of a spoiler alert) there were enough twists and turns that made sense in this one to really make it a legitimate ‘page turner.’
Now onto the deeper discussion.
*LAST CHANCE TO TURN BACK IF YOU’RE AFRAID OF SPOILERS**

After the death of Mara in Sacrifice, I had expected Inferno to be mostly about Mara and tracking her killer. Luckily it wasn’t. Instead the civil war that is the whole premise for Legacy of the Force expands in marvelously new intricate ways.
The turbolaser bombardment of the Wookie homeworld was a total shocker and a brilliant plot twist as was Tenel Ka’s ultimate decision to open fire on Jacen.
I didn’t expect Ben to actually kill Cal Omas but , wow…another solid twist.
The discovery of MANY Sith on Korriban is a FANTASTIC revelation – these are likely the Sith from which Darth Krayt (also known as A’Sharad Hett) comes from.
And of course adding to the great complexity of this series, the Jedi abandoning the Alliance – or as Luke puts it – there is no Alliance with Jacen.
ooooooh and last but definitely not least – the faked death of Luke Skywalker himself. The author did a masterful job of painting that picture – of Luke’s death and though i didn’t want too..i believed it (for a few pages at least) just as Jacen did.
As if there wasn’t enough complexity in this Galactic Civil War – there is now even more and that makes for some great story telling.
As opposed to the New Jedi Order – Legacy of the Force is taking twists that are not trite, they’re actually really well conceived. It’s a shame that Karen Travis is such a poor writer…but Troy Denning really is a star.

Holy Jawa do these books come out fast! Inferno is officially available today (though i don’t have a copy in my hands just yet).
As opposed to Sacrifice which we all knew would be the story in which Jacen Solo takes his Sith name – Inferno has no such penultimate highlight…though there is alot of ground to cover and it promises to be a riveting tale spun by Troy Denning
On a personal level I’m really going to take my time reading this one enjoying every page of what has become one of the best (if not THE BEST) Star Wars Expanded Universe book series ever.

Star Wars Legacy of The Force Inferno (book 6) July 5, 2007

*UPDATED* Star Wars Legacy Of The Force Inferno is the the sixth book in this excellent series..it follows Sacrifice, Exile, Betrayal , Bloodlines and Tempest).
The official publication date is set for August 28, 2007 and as opposed to Sacrifice this title will be available first in paperback (woohoo).
It looks like it’s Luke Skywalker on the cover. Certainly there is alot of ground to cover as Mara Jade’s killer needs to be discovered and as the Sith begin to cement their hold on the galaxy.
Luke Skywalker wanted to unify the Jedi order and bring peace to the universe. Instead his wife Mara lies dead at the hands of an unknown assassin, his wayward nephew has seized control of the Galactic Alliance, and the galaxy has exploded in all-out civil war.
With Luke consumed by grief, Jacen Solo works quickly to consolidate his power and jumpstart his plan to take over the Jedi. Convinced he’s the only one who can save the galaxy, Jacen will do whatever it takes, even ambush his own parents.
With the Rebel confederacy driving deep into the Core to attack Coruscant and the Jedi under siege, Luke must reassert his position. Only he can lead the Jedi through this crisis, but it means solving the toughest problem Luke’s ever faced. Does he fight alongside his nephew Jacen, a tyrant who’s taken over the GA, or does he join the rebels to smash the Galactic Alliance he helped create?
I can hardly wait!
Jacen Solo’s Sith Name is..Darth Caedus! May 18, 2007

Thnx to jwash24 who posted as a comment. ShowMeSciFi has now been able to independently verify that indeed Darth Caedus is Jacen Solo’s Sith name.
Jacen’s Sith name was chosen by a contest and follows his long descent into the dark side in the Legacy of the Force series (which is the most awesome Star Wars series in years if not of ALL TIME).
He takes his Sith name in Sacrifice set to come out in just a few weeks, but early copies are all already being leaked by the publisher.
So who does Jacen have to Sacrifice to get his Sith name…i could hardly believe it myself (and if you really want to know just look at the cover of the book and it’s quite obvious)..and i’m actually going to suspend dis-belief if you don’t mind until i get my hands on a copy of Sacrifice on May 29th.
*UPDATE* Got a copy of this on May 28th
Here’s the line you have to wait 367 pages to get too..
“Now was the time for a man who’d once been Jacen Solo to shoulder that responsibility for the galaxy’s sake.
Jacen took off the helmet, looked into his own eyes and didn’t flinch.
“Caedus,” he said. “My name is Darth Caedus.”
Star Wars Legacy of the Force Exile – Review March 15, 2007

I had been waiting for this book for months and bought it the day it hit the shelves . It was worth the wait.
Another awesome chapter in the Star Wars saga but then again what else should any of us expect?
At this point these books are written to a formula:
• crisis,
• escape from crisis,
• move to next crisis from multiple points
• escape from final crisis while leaving breadcrumbs for the next crisis to open the next book.
The best part of this book for me was likely, Exile’s first escape from crisis which occurs as Han, Leia, Corrran , Wedge and family escape from Correlia as Wedge resigns from the Correlian military.
Overall this installment in the Star Wars Legacy of the Force moreso than any other yet is all about plot progression as opposed to any sort of deeper character development. Not that there is anything wrong with that. This book is all about action and plenty of it.
With Correlia and its allies in an all out war against the Alliance one could hardly expect the book to just be about a bunch of diplomats talking.
Only in the final pages of the final chapter do we see some deeper character development in Jacen as he continues his decent into the dark side. Lumiya tells him that he must choose his Sith name and his sacrifice. Not coincidentally Sacrifice is the name of the next installment in this series. The Darth Who contest should also be wrapped up then so we’ll definitely know Jacen’s Sith name too and I’d expect Lucas to go all out on promotions.
Star Wars Legacy of the Force Exile is a raucous page turning, swashbuckling adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend. If you haven’t yet indulged in the Legacy of the Force Series you should, the previous books (Betrayal , Bloodlines and Tempest) are all great …and the next one is likely to be even better. I can’t wait to see ‘Darth Solo’ in action!
