ST13-PosterWe weren’t expecting much from Star Trek Into Darkness..

No we didn’t like J J Abrams first Star Trek movie…but Into Darkness..

Not too shabby.

First off..

KLINGONS!!

Yes we get a new era of Klingons in this pic (include super-cool new headgear).

We get Klingon speaking Uhura and Klingons speaking Klingon on Kronos itself.

No classic era Birds of Prey, but a sleek new type of scout ship that looks really cool.

OK next up.

KHAN.

No we didn’t expect to see him either, John Harrison is Khan – who knew? No this isn’t a Ricardo Montoblan Khan, but still a devious Mofo and an excellent villain.

The line by line recitation in this movie from Star Trek II Wrath of Khan – inverted with Kirk getting irradiated and Spock getting the call from Scotty that he needs to come down to Engineering right away…WAS SHEER BRILLIANCE.

Spock screaming out Khan!!! was neat, though a bit mis-placed. In Wrath of Khan, Kirk yells out Khan when he is trapped on the planet beneath Regulla One.

TRIBLES.

Another amazeballs twist, J J went all out to give classic fans things to love. Tribles saved by Khan blood save Kirk.

Overall a fun movie, not a pure classic like Wrath of Khan was/is but vastly better than the first J J Abrams Trek and absolutely an entertaining move that we are likely to see more than once.

Star Trek the Video Game: William Shatner vs the Gorn- HILARIOUS!! April 1, 2013

J J Abrams in his infinite wisdom DID NOT include William Shatner in his reboot of Star Trek – but that’s not stopping the makers of the new Star Trek video from including Shatner in a new promo.

Shattner parodies himself in this clip (and for good measure we’ve put the classic 1967 clip of his first encounter with the gorn too!)

the new game is set for official release on April 26th 2013

and the classic episode bit that is being parodied:

ST13-PosterNo, we haven’t been terribly excited by what we seen so far for the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness movie.

We’ve got the former Starfleet officer gone rogue and overtones of a Khan like nemesis.

We’ve got the Starship Enterprise NCC-1701 falling from the skies (again) to crash into the San Francisco area (how many times do we need to see this good ship crash?)

We have a human-centric cast with no clue that the Federation is much larger than humans.

oh

and no Klingons.

that’s right

NO KRIFING KLINGONS.

Usually at this point of a movie release cycle (less than 8 wks to go) the trailers get really interesting. After all, the trailer is the studio’s opportunity to get the best 30-90 seconds of the movie into a snippet.

The latest Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer is out today – April 1st – but apparently it’s not a joke. It’s just a sad testament to the lack of direction and dedication to the Star Trek mythos

J J Abrams to Direct Star Wars Episode VII? DONT MAKE US BARF!!!! January 24, 2013

News today is that J J Abrams – the dude behind the moronic Star Trek reboot – but also the same guy behind great TV like Fringe – has been tapped to direct the first Disney Star Wars movie.

THIS IS JUST PLAIN WRONG.

Star Wars and Star Trek should not crossover and the infection of Abrams will be revolting to those with high midichlorian counts.

Then again – George Lucas is hardly a great director either – Episodes 1-3 are proof of that…and so long as J J doesn’t bring back Jar Jar (strange how J J and Jar Jar have the same initials) – we can’t be too peeved right?

ST13-Poster

The first Star Trek Into Darkness poster is here and we’re already worried.

Sure this is just a teaser..but the post apocalyptic vision of the Federation has been done – remember that Enterprise episode where Archer is taken into the far future where Earth is destroyed? yeaah that’s what we thought too.

Still it’s early.

There is still hope

KLINGONS!!! WE WANT KLINGONS.

The new crew of Star Trek XI

Ok we know that Star Trek (Reboot) II will not be called the Wrath of Khan and instead will be called Into Darkness. What we didn’t know though was what the movie was about.

Now we kinda/sorta do.

Star Trek Producer JJ Abrams has released a preliminary synopsis of the new movie.

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Umm ok.

So will there be any Klingons?

Seriously people. Klingons.

By the Betleth of K’ahless WE WANT KLINGONS.

We don’t know much about this PSY-Gangnam style viral craze…but we do know that it’s now passed into our world…

truly brilliantly done parody – though there is only one Klingon in this…then a bunch of Federation types, a vulcan and a Mr. Data android type…and oh yeah even a Tribble (that our friendly Klingon crushed and drowned..). The subtle touches like the tri-level chess board, NCC-1701 license plate on the car,…. just exceptional overall.

and oh yeah it’s not just a Star Trek theme…the whole PSY song is sung in its original Klingon too!!

Q’uplah!

Good fun…Klingon style

Long time readers of ShowMeSciFi.com know that we have no love lost for the Star Trek Enterprise show.

It wasn’t a good show (for the most part, though it did have some great moments). The Mirror Universe episode of course was awesome as was the cameo when Cmrd Riker (J.Frakes) came on board too. There could have been one other cameo that would have given that show another awesome moment.

William Shatner making an appearance as Capt Kirk. Wouldn’t that have made sense in the Mirror Universe episode? Especially since they capture the NCC-1701 from the future, which should have been Kirk’s ship?
According to Brannon Braga – it could have happened.

He tells this tale in a recent interview:

The only crossover that was exciting was there was a brief time when we were going to put Captain Kirk on Enterprise, and we even met with William Shatner, but it just never happened. We had some story concocted about why Kirk was there and how he got there. I don’t remember. I think Shatner had a pitch. It was actually going to be a pretty cool two-part episode. I don’t know exactly what happened. It might have been that we couldn’t make a deal with Shatner or something like that.

Ok we’ve got a name for Star Trek 2 (reboot). No it’s not the Wrath of Khan, thought he original Star Trek II remains the best of all Trek films.

The name is

Star Trek Into Darkness.

Let’s all hope that the Darkness include some Klingons this time…the release version of Star Trek was missing them…

At this point, all of the principal photgraphy for Star Trek Into Darkness has been completed and the film is in Post Production.

Star Trek Into Darkness is set to be released on May 17, 2013.

Ok we thought the first book in this series – Plagues of Night – was a little slow. This book is wall to wall, cover to cover excitement making this an awesome read.

DS9 as we know it is no more.

WOW.

The head of the Tal Shi’ar imprisoned and the Alpha Quadrant cutoff from the Gamma.

WOW.

The pure size of the plot shifts that happen in this book are massive and a delight to this Star Trek fan. No shortage of action or drama in this brilliantly crafted and written book – Highly recommended (but read Plagues of Night first!)

Doesn’t it totally suck that there is no Star Trek on TV anymore (new shows that is). Remember the awesome days when we had both TNG and DS9 on at the same time? those were the days…

He’s not Dead Jim!!

William Shatner turns 81 today and he sure seems as vibrant and as relevant as ever.

Sure the Sh*t My Dad Say show didn’t go anywhere.

Sure JJ Abrams didn’t include him in the Star Trek reboot

But that does mean that fans the world over still don’t love shatner.

So on his 81st birthday we have a few special words.

Mr. Shatner:

LIVE LONG & PROSPER!

It was 22 yrs ago that the Enterprise B helped defend the Klingon Khitomer outpost against a Romulan attack…

WOW does time fly, tonight is officially 22 years since Star Trek TNG 3×15 Yesterday’s Enterprise was first aired. It is easily our favorite TNG episode for so many reasons and the fact that tonight is 22 yrs after it first aired brings back a rush of memories.

REMEMBER when we all waited for new Star Trek episodes week after week? TNG has very few bad episodes and we were always treated to amazing content. Yesterday’s Enterprise went above and beyond though.

We got the return of Tasha Yaar (and not as the Romulan Commander Seeyla); We had a dark world where the collars were just a bit higher, every ship officer on the Enterprise carried a side arm and Klingons were on the verge of toppling the Federation.

Who didn’t get goose bumps when Picard tells the Commander of the Enterprise B in hushed tones that the war was going much worse than was commonly known..and that one ship in the hear and now wouldn’t make a difference but 22 yrs ago in the past it would.

Klingons vs the Federation as it should be…if only for an episode with battle, timeline issues and Picard at his finest hour..and then once the ship goes back in the rift…it’s all good again.

22 years, time does fly. Man do we miss that show..

We were excited when Star Trek Online first came online – but something happened over the last year. We got bored. It’s well known that playing as Klingon sucks in this game and hey who doesn’t want to be a Klingon.

The game is supposed to soon be getting btr…and perhaps even more important — it’s now Free to Play. We suspect that Free to Play will help keep this game alive another year, maybe two but no more. So if you haven’t tried this out yet, you should cause it’s free and time it likely running out.

Think Steve Jobs is a genius? He might be..but he’s also a Star Trek fan.

All you need to do is watch an episode of Star Trek – classic, next gen, DS9 or Voyager and you’ll see..

yup

PADDs everywhere.

They’re not a new idea and we’ve seen them since the 1960’s.

Officially speaking – “PADD” is an acronym for Personal Access Display Device.

So Apple’s iPad is a wrip off from Star Trek – CBS and the Roddenberry Estate SHOULD get the credit.

Sure it’s been out for a two week on DVD now but Black Friday pricing for Star Trek 2009 is really out of this world.

Over at Amazon –Star Trek (Single-Disc Edition) – is only $9 which is half price for a brand new copy.

We haven’t yet seen $9 copies anywhere else, though we’d expect that by January Blockbuster will have them in the previously viewed shelf.

But if you need one of these for an Xmas gift this might be a good time to pick it up.

Unbelievable!

io9 has what it claims to be a confirmation from George Lucas’ ILM and a frame from the blu-ray version of Star Trek 2009

In real-time play, it’s not even a second long, but it’s clear that everyone’s favorite astromech was on Nero’s ship when the NCC-1701 blasted her to oblivion.

Here’s the thumbnail from io9:
