Battlestar Galactica Season 5 Episode 1 – Dee is Dead. Ellen Tigh is the Fifth January 17, 2009

First new episode since June of 2008 and it was FRAKIN awesome –

Technically season 4 episode 11 (but after six months off gimme a break it’s Season  5 episode 1).

We did not see Dee’s death – that was soo sudden.

We’ve been saying for the past two years that Starbuck is a Cylon. So now we’ll say it again – Starbuck is a Cylon – isn’t she?

But what’s the deal with the rest of Earth?

Were they all really Cylons? Is Ellen Tigh really the fifth? It makes no sense.

The Cylons claimed they tested all the recovered bones on Earth and they all came up Cylon – does that mean that Earth was itself a planet full of cylons and there are actually Billions of Cylon models?

Though there isn’t any new Battlestar Galactica on the tube , there is some great stuff at the comic book store.

I just finished reading Battlestar Galactica Season Zero issue #1 and…WOW great frakking stuff. Solid plot and character stuff..art isn’t fantastic but it’s not bad either.

The 6-issue Season Zero series follows Commander Adama and crew as they take on their first mission on board the Galactica. Though this is issue #1 its not actually the first issue in this series.

As reviewed here on ShowMeSciFi.com there was an issue zero for season zero – it was arguably the most widely read/printed/distributed Battlestar Galactica comic book of all time.

Sit tight nuggets! SciFi intends to frak with you.

Though we all know now that that the next season is the last for Battlestar Galactica – apparently the season may well be split over the course of not one but two calendar years (2008 and 2009).

This is what i would call adding insult to injury.

Ok so the show is ending – that’s both good and bad. True diehard fans will watch no matter what. But the casual fan isn’t going to bother. The current 10 month gap between the last season and the next is bad enough..but SciFi channel that FAN HATING BASTION of non-creativity is going to do it to us again.

But what can we do? Petition the network? Boycott them?

i DON’T know….i guess as long as SciFi Network’s parent NBC Universal is making money they don’t really care.

Remember last year’s Battlestar Galactica Resistance Webisodes?

They’re BAAAAACCK.

In advance of the two-hour movie Battlestar Galactica: Razor on Nov. 24, SCI FI will air an eight-week series of exclusive mini-sodes, between two and three minutes in length, beginning in October. The promotional shorts will provide a backdrop to events that will take place in the rest of the fourth season of Battlestar. Written by Michael Taylor and directed by Wayne Rose and Felix Alcala, the shorts will take place during the original Cylon War and center on a young William Adama (played by Nico Cortez), who discovers a dangerous Cylon weapon that will come to haunt him and his crew 40 years later. The mini-sodes will be available on SCIFI.COM after they debut on the network.

Neat. Though at 3 minutes each they will be painful to watch one at a time.

If you haven’t seen the trailer for Razor yet check it out, it’s frakkin cool.

Battlestar Galactica Unity – review July 4, 2007

unity.jpgWith no new Battlestar Galactica on TV for a few months yet…it’s time to turn to the paperback fiction episodes.

Battlestar Galactica Unity by Steven Harper is one such paperback episode (as is Sagitarius is Bleeding which we’ve previously reviewed). Unity is better.

Unity occurs during the period when Sharon is pregnant and being held as a prisoner on board Galactica. Galactica is being attacked by Cylon Basestars and Raiders which ultimately results in the destruction of the Basestar but an escape pod gets away which Starbuck discovers and brings aboard Galactica. Turns out to be a famous Colonial singer.

When the singer give a performance on the ship he ends up spreading a ‘virus’ . Long story short some religious zealots later and it all works out.

While plague type shows in SciFi are common, the BSG universe with Cylons (Cylons who think they are humans like Starbuck) and the various colonial religions add a real interesting touch that make this a solid and enjoyable read.

Though it wasn’t on TV, it had all the elements of BSG episode and easily would make a really good episode.

We know that the next ‘NEW’ Battlestar Galactica event is

the Battlestar Pegasus Movie Razor which comes out in

November (link). There is rampant speculation that it will deal why Admiral Cain hates Six so much..

According to the speculation, Six and Cain were lovers (yup lesbos in space).

Considering that there is a direct to DVD movie version, i wonder if the producers will have an adults only rated version…

I had high hope for this series when i first picked it up. This last issue was a bit of a downer though.

Starbuck gets stuck on the Cylon world..goes about his biz..then the fleet comes back to get him once he can send out his signal.

Nothing too exciting just a very average story and a week cliched ending.

Would have been neat if the Cylon’s turned into humans (as the result of the bio weapon)….. then again maybe not.

What’s a FRAKKING BSG fan to do?

The show is ending next year and even worse there are no new episodes to be had for months yet…what to do what to do.

PLAY THE FRAKKING VIDEO GAME of course.

Battlestar Galactica – Beyond The Red Line (BTRL) is a FREE game that is now available as a Demo for PC/MAC/LINUX users. It’s a fan effort and is not officially endorsed by BSG’s copyright owners.

In an interview with the BTRL developers one of them admits that they have not made any attempt to contact Ron Moore or NBC Universal directly regarding the project.

In choosing to develop a game based on “Battlestar Galactica” we are making use of the intellectual property of NBC Universal. We walk a very thin legal line by using this material as inspiration for our work, which is why our project is free to the public. The team has no desire to profit from this labor of love, but rather to bring a new and enjoyable “Galactica” experience to fans of the television series and video games alike.

If that is not proof positive that SciFi and Ron Moore are a bit out too lunch I don’t know what is. There is so much demand/interest in BSG, they could easily make good money with a solid game like BTRL, but they are too busy deciding on when to cancel the series instead of giving fans more of what they want.

ShowMeSciFi will have more on BTRL soon..but for now check out this trailer…oh and don’t forget to download and try out the came yourself! ()

Battlestar Galactica Season 4 WILL BE THE LAST no and ifs or buts about it June 1, 2007

I don’t know why SciFi channel hates its fans so much.

We’ve known for some time that season 4 could be the last one, but instead of just admitting it, the show’s producers and SciFi have FRAKKED US OVER making us think there is hope.

THAT’S JUST UNFAIR.

“This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and, finally, an end,” Eick and Moore said in a statement Thursday. “Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end, and we’ve decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms. And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there — we’re going out with a bang.”

I don’t have a problem with the show ending. I do have a problem with this on again off again bs. Considering how poorly SciFi has managed to market and schedule this show over the past year you’d think they were trying to lose money and purposefully undercut the potential success of BSG…maybe it’s all just a cylon plot afterall.

Gotta hand it to NBC they sure know how to cast for a SciFi show. They’ve just released some initial footage from the new Bionic Woman show..one of the clips has Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica’s Starbuck) fighting The Bionic Woman Jamie Sommers. Katee Sackhoff is set to guest star in a re-imagining of the 1970s show.

Guess Starbuck (Sackhoff) really is a fembot! (aka Cylon!!)

All-Out War as the Galactica and her Viper’s do battle with the Cylons and their Raiders as Adama has ordered the virus released against the Cylon Empire! But, all doesn’t go as planned for Starbuck as he finds himself left behind on the Cylon world!

Another solid issue in a real solid storyline.

Starbuck getting stuck behind isn’t anything particularly inventive but he was just about to propose to Cassie so that kinda adds a twist to the whole thing. Only one issue to go and then this series is done.
Will all the cylons turn into reptiles and Will Galactica make it to Earth?

Just a few more weeks and then we’ll all find out.

THAT’S IT!

Season 4 which is still 7 months away..WILL BE THE LAST for Battlestar Galactica.

Olmos says “This will probably be the most extraordinary season of ‘Battlestar’. It’s the final season, so it’s definitely going to be the most vicious. As far as we know, in respects of the way we have this show constructed, this is the final season.”

Sackhoff says “I think part of the problem is that it’s an expensive show. It is [a great show], but we don’t have the viewership that a great show should get.”

FRAK!!!!!!!!

Ultimately it’s the not the viewership that is killing BSG – It’s SciFi Channel and that is where ALL THE FRAKKING BLAME should go.

How the frak can you have an 8 month layoff between seasons?

How can you put a tier 1 show on at 10 pm on a Sunday night and expect ratings?

Sure it’ll be a great season knowing that all the loose ends need to be tied up..but it’s sad knowing that SciFi totally mismanaged this awesome show.

Battlestar Galactica Season Zero Issue Zero – The Most Popular BSG comic of all time??? May 9, 2007

bsgseasonzero.jpgThe series has barely begun but Battlestar Galactica Season Zero can already lay claim to being the most popular BSG comic book of all time.

How can that be??? It’s only at issue Zero.

EASY.

Dynamite gave issue Zero away.

On Free Comic Book Day.

They gave away …drum roll please…

….

100,000 COPIES

Is it any good? Not really. It’s a pre TV movie era prequel that likely won’t ever be considered to be canon. Adama crosses into Cylon space to rescue a lost expedition and run into..surprise surprise – CYLONS.

Kinda reminds me of the bulldog episode.

Artwork is crap and the story is real baseline. But hey it was FREE.

Zarek isn’t just a freedom fighter, he’s also a hero that saved lives when the Cylon invasion happened.

What’s more he returned to the prison barge that was transferring him to a parole hearing once he saved people from the Cylons.

AMAZing.

I’m not sure if this Battlestar Galactica Zarek series is considered to be BSG canon, but it should be.

From the first issue all the way to this last one, Zarek has held my attention with solid action, plot and character development of Zarek.

Zarek is a somewhat misunderstood BSG character, piece by piece in the SciFi show they’ve pulled out tidbits of his backstory…BUT this comic book series IS the backstory.

If you missed individual issues at your local retailer, you’re still in luck. A tradepaperback version of the collected four issue set will be out in July.

Continuing from the first two issues in this series (which ShowMeSciFi reviewed here), this third issue take us into Zarek’s life behind bars.

Zarek is of course a beloved character because of Richard Hatch and the classic BSG attachment BUT this comic book series takes it to another level.

Out in the public Zarek’s story was definitely interesting, behind bars its even better. What kind of genius is this dude? A real methodical and well organized one.

It’s too bad this is only a four issue series but then again, it is only filling in a very specific gap.Who is Tom Zarek and how did he end up on the prison barge?

With the popularity of the new re-imagined Battlestar Galactica, there has been alot of speculation about how the Cylons evolved from machines to flesh and blood.

Cylon Apocalypse issue #2 offers a potential answer – though it will never EVER show up in the new series – since Cyclon Apocalypse is a classic era based comic.

Long story short is that the Cylon are experimenting with some kind of biogenic substance that reverts the cylons to a reptilian/mamilian form.

In this issue of the comic (which continues from the excellent issue #2). Adama decides to try and negotiate with a Cylon viceroy but as well all know there is no negation with the cylon.

GREAT FRAKKING STUFF. It really makes me wish that the new show was
a) actually on now instead of on an 8 month hiatus
b) that the new show had an imperious leader, viceroys and cylon mainframe worlds.

In the absence of the SciFi show, the Dynamite Entertainment comic series is THE BEST BSG thing running.

Dual revelations rock the rag-tag fleet as a routine Viper patrol puts them on the edge of a bizarre scene – Cylon Raiders attacking one of their own Basestars!

With the regular SciFi channel series out till January..comics are the only salvation for BSG fans.

Dynamites Cylon Apocalypse is a welcome respite…

Sure it’s classic era stuff..and sure they now use the word FRAK alot more often..

But it’s good (pulp) fun. Art is rudimentary but o.k, story is predictable but entertaining.

This is the first issue in a four issue set and one that we’ll continue to review here on ShowMeSciFi till it’s conclusion.

Just because SciFi network has no new episodes of Battlestar Galactica for another 8 months doesn’t mean that their aren’t ‘new’ BSG stories being told.

The Battlestar Galactica comic series is one such outlet

The current thread in Dynamite Entertainments main BSG #7 has a wickedly cool plot line where the fleet finds an ancient antebellum Cylon fleet (that is pre-cylon war cylons – the cylons that the colonies used to fight earch other at one point and look like te ones from the classic series – By Your Command – and all that..)that ends up taking commands from Adama. He then uses the old cylons to fight the new ones.

Why can’t the TV show do stuff like that?

I guess it’s cause Mr.Moore and crew are too tied up worrying about big moral issues and frakking around with character issues rather than trying to whoop it up with some good cylon on cylon smackdown action.

AT this point, with the show off the air for 8 months, Dynamite’s BSG comics series really is the BEST BSG ticket around.

Oh and if you ever doubted that Starbuck is a Cylon…don’t.  Just check out the cover (above) for issue number 7!

Steve Jobs is a cylon! Explains a lot doesn’t it?

Think about it a human looking entitiy bent on having good looking technology infiltrate and take over our lives..

It’s also the title of a really cool Battlestar Galactica fan flick in which a pair of geeks running a Mac with an iPod attached are illegally downloading a BSG episode and get a ‘virus’.

The vid really gets interesting 1:50 seconds into the video. One dude says, “Mac’s don’t get viruses’ AND then…well just watch the FRAKIN YouTube video. Great stuff, a must for all Apple haters and BSG lovers.

(oh and be sure to keep your iPod nailed down or risk get blasted)
