The Republic, Mandalorians, Zayne Carrick and Lucien all come face to face in this issue (the situation was setup in issue #19)

Finally after 20 issues Master Lucien is in the same room as Zayne who he has been hunting the whole time ..and what does Lucien do?

Whack him with his lightsaber of course.

And finally 7 issues after he first gets his fancy cortosis arm things (which he got in issue # 13 ) Zayne uses them for what they were intended. Lucien strikes and Zayne stops him with his forearms…AWESOME

What is Jarael’s secret? I don’t know but I’m curious – and that’s a good thing. KOTOR has emerged from the depths and is now a legitimately good and consistent series.

Dark Horse Comics has announced a massive year long event that will encompass all their Star Wars titles in one MASSIVE storyline.

Star Wars Vector begins in January 2008 with the Knights of the Old Republic title, and will include all four Dark Horse Star Wars titles throughout the year, introducing new characters and tying the entire line together.

When a terrible vision reaching more than 4,000 years into the future alerts the secret Jedi Covenant to the importance of Taris, they activate an operative already on this planet overrun by Mandalorians. There, in the deadly Undercity, a monstrous, ancient threat is unleashed that plunges Zayne Carrick, the Padawan accused of killing his fellow students, into an adventure which will eventually span four thousand years and involve Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and the principles of the Legacy series!

“After our relaunch in 2006 and the thirtieth anniversary this year, we were looking for something special to kick-off 2008,” said editor Randy Stradley in a statement. “At first, a line-wide Star Wars crossover seemed like it might be beyond our reach, but after nearly a year’s worth of back-and-forth discussions among our writers and artists, we came up with something really solid. Not only is it a big story that can span all of the eras we’re dealing with, but the events which take place within each era will be important to that era.”

The “Vector” storyline begins in Knights of the Old Republic #25,  coming in January of 2008.

After a year and a half of suffering with this title, it’s finally coming together. From a plot point of view Dark Horse’s Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic issue #19 is easily the best issue this year pulling together all the major characters of the series.
We’ve got Mandalaorians
We’ve got the Republic Fleet
We’ve got Jedi (good and bad)
We’ve got the Arcanians (offshoots and purebloods)
Zayne Carrick is coming face to face (or back to back) with his Jedi tormentor

And its’ all coming together..the plot lines and the characters.

The only thing missing is the Sith – then again – Lord Adasca, head of the massive corporation Adascorp – might well be a Sith considering the way he’s manipulated the universe.

The weak link in this issue is the art. It is painfully pathetic at points and very amateurish. As I’ve complained before Zayne Carrick our main ‘hero’ in this series gets yet another treatment – so he look different again. If you compare how Zayne is drawn across say 5 issues you’ll see what looks like 5 different characters.

Still KOTOR #19 is a solid issue continuing from the solid issue #18. It’s a good trend and we can only hope that Dark Horse’s editors wizen up and put some real artists to work on this book.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Continuing on from issue #17 – we finally get a decent issue.

After at least 6 issues that totally sucked, Dark Horse has finally put together really decent issue of Knights of the Old Republic. No it’s not even 1/10th what Legacy is, but hey it’s a start.

In this issue we finally figure out what camper was hiding in his brain – truth is until this issue i couldn’t have cared less about camper. But in one issue we get alot – we find out what he knows and we find out why it’s important.

Even more interesting is the fact that after WAY WAY WAY too many issues we may finally be getting closer to a reunion with Zane and some kind of Jedi confrontation.

Will Zane save them all? I’d guess so. But hey after being ready to give up on this series now once again I’m interested enough to keep reading and see what will happen next.

Keeper of a terrible secret, addled inventor Camper spent most of his life running from Adascorp, the most powerful organization on his homeworld of Arkania. Now he lies gravely ill aboard the Arkanian Legacy, the colossal flagship of the corporation, his life in the hands of its owner-Lord Adasca! Does the young lord really intend to cure Camper and make amends for his predecessors’ relentless hunt of the old man?

After 17 issues, I’m not sure that i ever really cared much about Camper at all. This new storyline brings some relevance to him and apparently will also shed light on his big secret. What is it? Who knows – I can’t even speculate since this series has been so awful lately.

Artwork continues to be a problem with characters continuing to be drawn totally differently from issue to issue. I guess DArk Horse isn’t doing much quality control on this book.

The cover art is also misleading – they never do threaten to leave Zayne behind – but i do like this new approach of pulling out a cell and making it a cover.

KOTOR still is the weakest link in Dark Horse’s Star Wars lineup – we still don’t have a clue – 17 issues later what’s going on with Zayne and the deaths of his fellow padawans. Maybe that’s something the writers are stringing out in hopes to maintain readership. Personally i’d much rather see some kind of big resolution and then move on.

This issue is neither better nor worse than issue number 16 – here’s to hoping that eventually someone at Dark Horse will either get the message or kill this series.

The Knights Of The Old Republic Return

Though KOTOR II is an excellent game, many gamers say that it feels rushed and incomplete. Indeed, it was discovered as early as 2005 that a lot of material designed for the end of the title was deleted. Additionally, it was discovered that certain character development scenes were left out, and some characters were even cut altogether. An intrepid band of fans have discovered the missing pieces that were not included in the final production version of KOTOR II, and slowly but surely, they’re making those hidden chapters and pieces available.

The effort is officially called The Sith Lords Restoration Project (TSLRP), and its goal is to add back in as much of the cut content as is possible.

No this is not KOTOR III but hey in the absense of that next game (rumored to be announced on May24th) Sith Lords Restoration may well be the next best thing.

KOTOR and KOTOR II are the two best Star Wars games of all time..Sith Lords Restoration truly is the missing link.

Alrighty finally a brand new story arc..maybe this one won’t totally SUCK.
(or maybe it will).

The cover would make you think that this issue at LONG FREAKING LAST is about Zayne and that original incident with the deaths of his fellow padawans. no such luck though..we get a few measly pages of a dream sequence and that’s it.

The rest of this issue is about Jarael and her quest to figure out what’s wrong with Camper.
What’s wrong with Camper is that he’s a lame character!

This issue also has a low page count and a tonne of ads. Dark Horse should be paying readers to take this from their comic book retailers and not the other way around.

The “Days of Fear” story arc reaches its explosive conclusion in a story of dangerous visions, unheeded warnings, and decisions made too late

UNFORTUNATELY this issue still confirm my belief that KOTOR SUCKS…but at least this issue doesn’t suck as badly as issue #14 did.

Long story short Zayne’s visions come true, the Mandalorians attack (though we never actually see Mandalore except on the cover of this comic) and Zayne gets arrested on a Republic ship that apparently will bring him back to the Jedi. How this marks the end of a story arc, I DON’T KNOW.

I’m glad that this lame, pathetic story arc is over. HOpefully it means the writers can finally get down to some real story telling business.

I don’t know what’s up with the artwork lately either. In this issue Zayne Carrick (the main character after all) is drawn very different than he has been before. I actually had to do a double take and read the text bubbles before i realized that it was Zayne…and that’s just LAME.

Dark Horse is shooting itself in the foot with this series which is incomparably inferior to Star Wars Legacy at this point.

This series is really starting to suck quite badly.

While Knights of the Old Republic started out as an awesome new series it has steadily declined in quality over the past few months. This most recent issue was totally pointless, poorly written and has artwork that is totally mundane and lackluster.

This issue is the second issue an story arc that began in issue #13 . I had high hopes at the time that this might finally kick it up a notch. I am sorely disappointed.

Zayne should be hunted down by all sides, there should be sith, jedi and mandalorians at ever corner. Instead there is a boring, plodding and altogether predicable slow plot that just keeps meanering along.

I’m at the point where I can no longer recommend this series to the casual reader – I’ll keep buying it myself so i can review it on ShowMeSciFi – so if anything does happen and Dark Horse turns this around – this blog will be the first toast and cheer for its return to glory.

forceunleashed.jpgNo it’s not KOTOR III. But yes it is the next greatest thing to happen to Star Wars Gaming.

LucasArts has announced a November shipping date for Star Wars The Force Unleashed which should be available for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and PSP. It is unclear whether a Wii version is in the cards.

LucasArts is claiming that the new game will introduce all kinds of new gaming innovations – as well as a new playable dark lord wannabe.

The Star Wars saga continues this November in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, a videogame developed by LucasArts, which casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice” and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi – and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

Issue 13 kicks of a new story arc that may have some real legs to it. The last story arc concluded in issue 12 . Basically what happens is Zayne Carrick sticks with Gryph the con artist while the others leave on the Last Resort.

Zayne and Gryph ultimately end up with a ship that takes them right back into the thick of things with the Republic Fleet.

Not a bad story but not the best yet either. Another incremental tale that gets things going without being overly dramatic itself.

Maybe I’m being a bit harsh…the story does end with an assasin droid (as seen on the cover) revealing itself to the crew of the Last Resort…oohhh I wonder if they’ survive…guess we’ve got to wait till the next issue to find out.

AND I suppose the funkly lightsaber repelling arm braces that Zayne ends up are kinda cool too. If Luke had a pair of those he probably wouldn’t have lost his arm.

Dark Horse Rising: It’s No Longer Just A DC And Marvel Universe

The Golden Age of comics was dominated by DC Comics, home to Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. The Silver Age belonged to Marvel with Spiderman, the Hulk, Fantastic 4 and Captain America.

Does the third age of comics belong to Dark Horse?

Regular readers of ShowMeSciFi know all about Dark Horse Comics. They are after all the publisher of all Star Wars Comics including of course the ‘new stuff’ like Legacy, KOTOR and Dark Times.

Recently TwitchGuru.com took a look inside the world of Star Wars Comics. This week they take a look inside Dark Horse Comics itself.

This issue is the second (and final) in a mini-story arc that began in Knights of the Old Republic #11. Basically Zayne’s dad gets kidnapped by pair of Hammerheads in the last issue and in this issue Zayne rescues him.

It’s really that simple (and relatively lame).

I suppose it does help for basic character and overall plot development to know that Zayne :
a: Has a father
b: his father is sympathetic to him
c: The Jedi know both a and b.

Beyond that this issue doesn’t offer much, but for regular readers of KOTOR (like myself) it’s all part of the master plan i guess – and like every other issue – a Must Read.

I’m looking forward to issue #13 already though just to see what the next story arc will bring. We haven’t seen the Sith yet, maybe they’ll finally make their intro.
