Dark Times has always been a ‘dark’ comic.

how could we ever forget that very first story arc back in 2007 – that was so…’unappetizing’

Fire Carrier continues that tradition –

Refugees ferried to a safe location…

only to…. be …

well…

..it’s not pretty.

Dark Times..

indeed…

Dark Horse Star Wars overload this week and we couldn’t be more excited
Leading the hit parade this week is STAR WARS BLOOD TIES BOBA FETT IS DEAD #1 (OF 4). YEEAAAh illustrated or should we say PAINTED by Chris Scalf.

This isn’t your regular comic book art – this is

ART.

While a new Blood Ties begins – Crimson Empire III ends with issue # 6 of 6 out this week. It has been a good ride but it’s time for Kir to go now.

STAR WARS CRIMSON EMPIRE III EMPIRE LOST #6 (OF 6)

OOOH but wait Dark Horse has one more awesome ending for us this week with Star Wars: Dark Times-Out of the Wilderness #5 – illustrated by the one and only Douglas Wheatley. Dark Times is an awesome series that has been plagued by publishing delays since the beginning – let’s hope that this final issue is everything we’ve been waiting for!

Star Wars Dark Times : Blue Harvest – Why the delay Dark Horse?? August 12, 2009

Dark Horse sure knows how to kill a great comic. Star Wars Dark Times – Blue Harvest first was published in April and there isn’t a second issue until August!!!

I just picked up issue O of Blue Harvest – it just came out – four months after the first issue!!! What the FRAK is the point Dark Horse? Why do you treat your loyal readers with such contempt?

Dark Horse’s moronic publishing schedule aside – Dark Times Blue Harvest is awesome. The art from Doug Wheatley is second to none – the man is the best Star Wars artist working today.

The story – fantastic!! That’s why we want more!! That’s why we want it monthly!!

The Parallels story arc has been a really neat one – showing the contrasting parallel storylines of Bomo Greenbark and Jedi Master K’Kruhk.

In the end they both end up much the same don’t they?

They both go nuts killing the bad guys.

The way that the panels were set up in this issue – showing the parallel lines of action – is nothing short of amazing.

Sure this was an issue with more action than chatter but it was an enjoyable and thoroughly satisfying end to a solid story arc.

Another solid issue that moves the plot along nicely. Reading this story arc issue by issue is a bit painful though and if I had a choice I likely would have prefered to just buy a trade paperback (but hey that could be months!).

We continue to learn about Bomo and what he is willing/able to do. And on the parallel side the Jedi younglings are under attack. Overall a nice balance of the two stories.

The real ‘magic’ though of course will come in the next issue when the Parallels will finally be brought together somehow – or not.

I just hope that no one else gets eaten.

I dunno. Dark Times isn’t bad..but without Wheatley’s art this series isn’t great either.

So we’ve got some kind of double cross here and our two plot lines are coming together.

Not particularly memorable stuff..but it does move the plot along. If you’re not already into this series don’t start here, wait till Vector hits it in a few months.

Star Wars Dark Times #7 ..it just keeps getting darker December 28, 2007

This is one depressing series.

Issue #5 of course was one for the ages…this issue just add a bit more misery to mix. This series has real interesting guiding plot line…make the characters miserable…give them a little hope..take it a way and then do a double cross of some sort.

Bomo is getting more integrated in with the crew here and in the parallel story line the Jedi outcasts are making a home for themselves such that it is.

The only weak point is that this is the first issue in awhile not drawn by Doug Wheatley whose artistic style is without peer.

That’s not to say the art is bad (cause it’s not)..it’s just not the same.

Order 66 is a cornerstone even in the Star Wars universe..and this issue revisits that order from yet another angle.

We see old friend Quinlan Vos in the beginning which really got my hopes up that he’d be back (he’s not it’s just a small cameo) but Jedi Master K’Kruhk is the main jedi here.

No surprise as we know he survives in a later era but it’s great to see/read his escape from Palpatine’s tyranny. Seeing as this series has been so dark so far…i’m not sure i really want to know how badly things will go for KKrunk and what kind of terrible ordeal he will endure.

Dark Times is easily one of the most depressing and truly Dark series in the Star War Universe ever published.
It’s just sad what happens..and there really are no happy comic book endings in this comic book.

This first story arc ends in the worst possible way – i was truly shocked and horrified by it – and couldn’t eat for nearly a day…

But i suppose that’s just good comic book writing – not sure that it’s for me as i’m not much for horror –

I’m not going to ‘spoil’ it here for anyone but let me just say this – it’s not a happy ending.

Dark Horse Comics has announced a massive year long event that will encompass all their Star Wars titles in one MASSIVE storyline.

Star Wars Vector begins in January 2008 with the Knights of the Old Republic title, and will include all four Dark Horse Star Wars titles throughout the year, introducing new characters and tying the entire line together.

When a terrible vision reaching more than 4,000 years into the future alerts the secret Jedi Covenant to the importance of Taris, they activate an operative already on this planet overrun by Mandalorians. There, in the deadly Undercity, a monstrous, ancient threat is unleashed that plunges Zayne Carrick, the Padawan accused of killing his fellow students, into an adventure which will eventually span four thousand years and involve Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and the principles of the Legacy series!

“After our relaunch in 2006 and the thirtieth anniversary this year, we were looking for something special to kick-off 2008,” said editor Randy Stradley in a statement. “At first, a line-wide Star Wars crossover seemed like it might be beyond our reach, but after nearly a year’s worth of back-and-forth discussions among our writers and artists, we came up with something really solid. Not only is it a big story that can span all of the eras we’re dealing with, but the events which take place within each era will be important to that era.”

The “Vector” storyline begins in Knights of the Old Republic #25,  coming in January of 2008.
