FOX killed Firefly 7 years ago…but it’s now coming back..to cable .. in reruns.

Starting in March Firefly will be on the Science Channel – and will have some new content with Science Channel ppl explaining the science behind the show.

More interesting is the fact that Nathan Fillion – Capt Mal himself is still interested in Firefly and would return to do the show if he could.

“If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly, make it on my own, and distribute it on the Internet,” Fillion said in an interview.

Firefly’s Shepherd Book has his backstory finally told in Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale December 1, 2010

After all these years, we finally know the backstory behind Shepperd Book.
Serenity: The Shepherd’s Tale is easily one of the best Serenity stories ever told and one that would have made an awesome TV episode if the frakkers at FOX hadn’t killed the show before its time.

The artwork isn’t the style we prefer, but it’s workable and once you’re past the first two or three pages, the awesome story telling takes hold.

Each flashback going further back, unraveling the Alliance, then browncoat , then street thug origins of the man we know as Shepherd Book, though that’s not his real name is it?

Yeaah we were excited when we first heard about the Firefly fan flic – Browncoats: Redemption.

AND yes we’re still excited now.

No this isn’t going to be a Joss Whedon classic – but it’s the only real action going on in the ‘verse now and we’ll be taking what browncoat goodness we can get – and be much obliged for it.

Serenity – Float Out – Isn’t the send-off Wash deserves June 14, 2010

We love Serenity/Firefly here as much as anyone — and sure Wash has always been one of our favs too.

Which is why we thought that Serentiy Float Out – mostly sucked.

Previous Dark Horse Serenity comics have been awesome – but not this one.

Context is lacking from the very beginning so we don’t really know what’s going on, the artwork is weak and oh yeah….

There isn’t a whole lot of Wash is there?

The only redeeming quality is the final page…

Apparently Wash will be a Daddy (posthumously.)

Firefly has been off the air and movie screens for years, but the fans keep asking for more.

A new book that just came out yesterday Firefly: Still Flying: A Celebration of Joss Whedon’s Acclaimed TV Series <– cheaper at Amazon than anywhere else we’ve seen)
give us some new insights into the show from the shows writers.

But the real bonus here is four new stories from the Firefly verse.

FUN WITH DICK AND JAYNE written and drawn by Ben Edlund

WHAT HOLDS US DOWN by Jane Espenson

CRYSTAL by Brett Matthews

TAKE THE SKY by Jose Molina

Anyone of these could have been episodes – as they were written by the same writers who wrote the show. Yeaah, we’re excited too.

Dollhouse – Firefly’s Doctor is Alpha February 23, 2009

dollhouse

ShowMeSciFi.com reader ‘Josh’ knows who Alpha is – it’s
Sean Maher – the actor who played Doctor Simon Tam in Joss Whedon’s Firefly (and Serenity).

No we haven’t see Maher yet in the series though he is officially set to be among Dollhouse’s cast.

It would be a delicious irony – given that we know Alpha cut up his victims with surgical precision (and Dr Tam was a surgeon).

Cool.

If you missed the last episode live – or just want to watch it again (I know I did) Amazon has it The Target

Good news Firefly/Serenity Fans! You don’t have to pay Dark Horse for the newest iteration of the Serenity comic..you can get if for free — online.

Serenity The Other Half is available for free on Dark Horse’s MySpace preview page it’s a short little story..but still entertaining.

Gorram Reaver are chasin Cap’n Mal and his pal who are tyring to deliver some human cargo..but River’s got a bad feeling about the dude…

In typical Serenity fashion, no one is really quite happy in the end.

No this isn’t quite as good as say Serenity Better Days but it is Firefly and it’s a good (short) read. There should be another Serenity full series out soon from Dark Horse though and we can hardly wait..

Serenity : Better Days #3 REVIEW June 4, 2008

So this is how Better Days ends…in typical Firefly fashion it’s an ending that leaves as many question as it answers.

Yes this was a good series but this last issue had a few flaws….

Like who was that guy that got fired from his job and then went nuts shooting at Alliance and Dirt Devil alike?

That was just odd.

Then in the end they’re all ‘just good’ seems a little strange but then again that’s the quirkiness that makes Firefly interesting.

The ending of this little series just felt a little rushed but then again maybe that’s just cause we want more Firefly.

I can hardly wait till the next Firefly Serenity series is out later this year which should be a focus just on the Shepard.

But it will cost me at least $750 !!

That’s the current next bid up for the charity auction now underway — to have lunch with Jewel Staite on the set of Stargate Atlantis itself. The charity site lists the actual value of the ‘lunch date’ to be $1000.

Includes: Lunch with Jewel Staite on the set of Stargate Atlantis. Valid for 2 people, for one year, based on availability.

Best known for her role as Kaylee, the sweet, happy and sensual ship’s mechanic on the critically acclaimed sci-fi series Firefly, Jewel Staite is the newest addition to the Stargate universe. Already a veteran actress at 25, Staite began her career at the age of 9. Finding success early on, she earned both Gemini (Canadian Emmy) and Canadian Television Film and Showcase Award nominations for her work on the Disney Channel series Flash Forward with Ben Foster.

Check out the bidding for yourself and if you got the creds…by all means BID (and send us pics when you win!!).

Serenity Better Days #2 Review April 15, 2008

FOX’s cancellation of Firefly remains one of the greatest SciFi travesties of all time.

Dark Horse is working hard to help us…and Serenity : Better Days issues #2 is a great step.

Can a comic book recapture the glory that is Firefly?

The answer in this case is an emphatic

YES!!!

The characters are right.

The dialogue is right.

The plot is right

The art is right.

Everything is right about this book — except for the fact that it’s only a three issue mini-series!!!!!

The Firefly Battlestar Galactica Link March 31, 2008

Huh.

While Firefly and Battlestar Galactica seem to me to be two different — though both gritty Sci-Fi – shows, there actually is a more tangible link between the two.

Writer Jane Espenson actually wrote episodes for both shows (browncoats and toasters).  In a really interesting interview she spill the beans on the difference between the two shows and how much influence Firefly had on BSG.

What was it like being the only Firefly writer to come over to BSG? Did you get a sense that BSG was trying to imitate some of Firefly’s more revolutionary elements, like the grittier, less heroic tone?

I don’t think Firefly influenced BSG. BSG was being developed shortly after Firefly was, and I’m under the impression that Ron would’ve been too busy coming up with Battlestar to be watching Firefly.

It’s a better today Firefly fans, now that a new chapter is out.

Serenity : Better Days #1 hits comic book retailers today.

Yes it’s still a prequel to the Serenity movie..which of course means that Wash is still alive (hurray).

More importantly the Browncoats yet live and we the fans should rejoice that today is in fact a better day.

(we don’t have our copy yet but once we get it we’ll post a review on ShowMeSciFi.com)

Let’s face it – alot of fan fiction is puke. But what happens when that ‘fan-fiction’ is actually a failed proposal for an unproduced episode of Firefly?

SHEER BRILLIANCE.

That’s what Steven Brust’s Firefly book “My Own Kind of Freedom” is – brilliant. Burst originally wrote the book as a proposal for a Firefly tie-in back in 2005.

Beyond being a great read – it’s free.

No, the dumb a$$es that run the studios and the TV networks haven’t come to their senses.

The geniuses at Dark Horse comic on the other hand have…

There’s plenty of reason for the Browncoats to look forward to 2008. Dark Horse has a whole lot of Serenity coming down the pipeline! First and foremost is the new Serenity comics series that is due out in March. This three-issue series, Serenity: Better Days, is a step back in time to the early years of the Firefly crew, and the fledgling gang’s turbulent attempts to cope with success after they pull off their first successful heist. It features the same creative team as Those Left Behind, with the story by Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews, art by Will Conrad, and Adam Hughes providing all three covers this time.

Those Left Behind was a great comic series and a must read prequel for the Serenity movie.

Considering the Joss Whedon himself is on this..how could this fail? Especially as a comic? That said…why just a mini-series and not a full series?? Surely there are enough browncoat loving Firefly fans to support a monthly book right!?

Apparently the runaway success of the special edition of Serenity has led to talk of a Serenity sequel.

Alan Tudyk (he’s the dude that played the pilot Walsh and got speared by a Reaver) told movie site that a sequel may happen.

“They had to put the new DVD out because they’ve been selling out of the other one [the DVD that isn’t the ‘Collectors Edition’] and so Universal’s like ‘So, let’s do another one’”, he says, adding “And now… there’s now a chance there’s going to be another movie”.]

Let’s hope they call it Return of the Browncoats or something like that and have it be a full out battle with the browncoats taking back what they lost at Serenity.

Firefly was cut short by Fox and was not properly marketed as a movie by Universal – maybe a direct to DVD flick is the answer – i don’t know. All i know is that Firefly fans WANT MORE.
