Barbarella is coming Back! February 5, 2007

Multiple news sites are confirming that discussions are now underway for a remake of the 60’s cult classic SciFi flic Barbarella starring Jane Fonda.
Though Fonda is not likely to reprise her starring role (and hey who would really want to see her in this sort of role now anyway?!) Dino De Laurentiis( the original producer) is the person spearheading the effort.
First Battlestar Galactica get re-imagined, Flash Gordon is on the way now Barbarella. Here’s hoping the new version is better than the first version.

Oh no! Barbarella is one of my favorite movies ever! (Seriously)
I just know they will cast some ultra-skinny waif who couldn’t knock over a dandelion to play the title role. Gah! This sucks! I hope it’s just a rumor.
And, uh, dude – that rambling, weird comment? WTF?
Is Sony gonna be producing the Orgasmatron? That should be popular for Christmas.
I don’t know if it can capture the same weirdness of seeing Jane Fonda get nekkid for a french director.

“But, she’s married to Ted Turner now!”

Still, it’s a great movie. I have a feeling they’ll be dumbing down the weird aspects of it that made it such a cult film.
I wonder if they’ll ever do a remake of Flesh Gordon?

I’m not sure if a remake is such a great idea. It looks like some of those things that worked fine in the 60s but to adapt the script now would imply to change it so much that it would be harldy the same movie… But then, I’m not a fan of remakes I fear. We’ll see…
I just hope they retain the camp kitschiness while updating it for an anime-savvy age…think along the lines of “Cutey Honey”
