Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.

It was a wasted empty death…

Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.

Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.

To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.

Please sign in and together we can be THE FORCE that will bring Mara back.

Unfortuneatly I wouldn’t count on them “fixing” all of the stupid nonsense foisted on the readers in LotF in general any time soon (if ever) because Del Rey has a lot of stuff in the pipe as is evident from this new series (that I admittedly haven’t paid the slightest attention to) that seems to be coming out fairly quickly if the frequency of seeing new hardcovers on the bookstore shelves is any indication. Towards that end I don’t think that they will be able to set anything in order (which I sadly don’t think they will) until they clean the current clog (Denning) out of their system. Until they do nothing would work out well anyway because they’d have to either scrap what they’ve got now essentially or dig their way out of whatever hole they finally end up in by the end of it.

As for the novels getting worse as they go on, I don’t know that I would say that so much however I would say that it’s understandable that someone just picking up a book that catches their eye that is referencing back story from years ago and dozens of books int he past makes it difficult for new readers to enter the game (which is more indicitive of why Star Wars novels aren’t on the general best sellers list anymore than their quality in general). In regards to the Heir to the Empire series, I liked them as much as the next guy but at the same time I have to acknowledge that in the grand scheme of things Timothy Zahn also had it significantly easier than an author writing at the tail end today (excepting hacks who don’t care) because when he wrote them he had essentially a blank slate.

You know what the funny thing is? I have mixed opinions of Troy Denning. On the one hand, he liked the YJK series, and wanted to put Jaina with Zekk (which is something I would have loved to see, seeing as I hate Fel’s guts!), and yet, on the other hand, Denning was the one mainly responsible for totally screwing up the YJK characters by having Jacen turn Sith, killing Mara, and, well, I’m sure you get the rest.

I pray for a reboot. Some people say that they should do one from the end of the NJO series. I say they should do one from the start, or at the very least from Star By Star onwards (ironically, another Denning book). Now, that may be just my anti-Fel persona speaking, but whatever.

I would say I liked Star by Star such as it was, simply because I never really bought into the “Anakin” character for reasons I’ve mentioned before. That said I can honestly say that beyond that I have nothing but a low opinion of him given that the Bug trilogy was both a ripoff only thing missing was soldiers running around in power armor though I suppose damn near unstoppable robots would do in a pinch (and kudos to anyone nerdy enough to get the reference without thinking Starcraft or that crappy movie in the nineties..) not to mention how far into left field it went. The only thing I liked was that with a child brought into the picture maybe we would finally get a focus on the “younger generation.”

Legacy of the Force was trash. Enough said.

As for anyone who might argue that he wasn’t responsible for the sorry state of the EU, I would point out that it’s doubtful that someone who wrote very nearly half of the novels since the end of the NJO by the time this Fate of the Jedi series is done, which I have to say I have no interest at all in reading after LotF.

Once again, I find it difficult to disagree with my Michael. But, like I have mentioned numerous times before, I pray that they reboot it, preferably from Star by Star at the latest.

And as for Jacen’s daughter, I’m sure they could re-introduce her in another time line without the BS storyline of him going dark to save her, and killing Mara, and so on and so forth.

Oh, by the way, I meant to say “I find it difficult to disagree with you my FRIEND Michael”. Sorry about that.

I love Mara! I agree we should try to get her back somehow.

That’s why I’m pimping the “alternate time line” angle. I hope I will be one of the authors to do it.

If they choose to actually DO the alternate time line thing.

And if I actually become an author.

Well, there’s a reason as to why I’m doing a writing course right now. Anyone got any ideas as to how the time line can be altered? I’m planning to change it around “Star by Star”, because I’m trying to save the Solo kids as well, and that book is when they started to get screwed up. (It all happened at Myrkr, people!)

I really wouldn’t see a necessity in rehashing half of the NJO when in my opinion simply starting over from the end of it would suffice. Nevertheless I also would rather that more people would pester Delrey about their crap as opposed to what seems like the vast majority allowing the folks who will buy anything regardless of it’s quality simply because it says Star Wars on it someplace be taken as the majority when i doubt very much that they are in this case.

Well, a lot of stuff that I did not like, in fact I absolutely HATED, occurred in the latter half of NJO, so I would prefer to get rid of that stuff. But that’s just me. For starters, I think that maybe Anakin didn’t have to die.

And yes, since I utterly despise the relationship between Jaina and that Fel wanker, I would much rather see it erased from existence. Call me prejudiced, or obsessed, or just plain angry, if you must.

So yes, I would much rather see them reboot from much earlier than the end of NJO.

Uh, yeah, me again. I was just going around to some sites where people openly express their dislike of the LOTF series, and many are annoyed that Jacen was made the bad guy, and they actually believe that Jaina had it right when she said that Jacen Solo “died” when he was a prisoner of the Yuuzhan Vong. So (at least in my opinion) if we are going to make sure that he does not screwed up, the series needs to be rewritten from a point before he gets captured.

Because, although we are upset that Mara was killed by Jacen, I think many would agree that Jacen himself was seriously mishandled as well, and if the opportunity arose, he should be “fixed up” for lack of a better term.

Anyway, a friend of mine and I are working on theories as to how the time line can be altered. Wish us luck, if you want.

And I got the 400th post! Let’s see if we can make it to 500!
