Great to have LIfe on Mars back..another solid episode with the werewolf of Wall St.

but..still what’s the deal with Sam?

What is project Aries? it looked like an FBI or KGB file…maybe he’s not in a coma maybe this is all a weird holodeck experience…

Or maybe it’s something else  – but what?

I’m quickly developing a suspicion that it is the exact opposite of what we the viewers and Sam think. He is NOT from our present. His actual original timeline is 1973.

The russian said he was working on the project to determine the function of the human soul, etc. How would a soviet scientist pull somebody from an era where there is no longer any USSR? He couldn’t. My suspicion is that when Sam got hit by the car his soul was displaced and therefore pulled back to his original time, 1973.

That HAD to have been Skelton on the phone. Also his comment in the last episode about considering Sam to be a traveler? Why in the heck would he say that unless he knew something?

Well, we’re all still trying to connect the dots. Nice to know that others have arrived some of the same conclusion(s) I have.

Broad Theory: Aires Project, some type of mind/time experiment (Yes, vague, I know) would be the one explination that would cover all the bases yet still keep things at least partly rooted in reality. However, that still leaves us to seperate just what is fact and what is fiction…IE imaginative thoughts…in Sam’s mind. Parts must be key to the answer and other must be in the nature of “dreaming”.

I think the key will lie in seperating the real from the unreal, the theme that was played out in Ep 102 that seems to be cropping up more and more.

On a pragmatic note, this is television genius as it allows virtually any and all possibilities to be played out for an unlimited amount of time.
This is an AGES old theme to work with.

Just remember…”It’s all connected.”

Having watched most episodes in the original BBC series, inlcuding the last few and the finale, I don’t think there is a cohesive story or narrative for Sam’s time-travel.

In my opinion, the producers just threw in a whole heap of intruiging and contradictory ‘explanations’ and characters to keep us guessing.

Its pure entertainment.

I love Life On Mars and I am so pleased that the US Version is loyal to the feel and intelligence of the BBC original.

Cheers!

I don’t know what to think about these last few episodes of Life on Mars. Project Aries is something to be interested in for sure, but we just aren’t given enough to even begin to speculate. We could just take the easy route out and figure he’s the Matrix (or something like that.)

What I do know is that this new season has lost the Quantum Leap vibe… What I mean by this is, well, he used to set things right that once went wrong (heh) and now not so much. The episode about Rocketgirl? What was that? It could be cut out of the series and we would lose next-to-nothing.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the first season of the show, and am still enjoying it on the momentum of that, it’s just that we’re being strung along without a direction. I suppose I would just like more movement in the central story… Why is he there, et cetera.

That, and the fling with Gene’s daughter was a waste if he’s just going to go back to confiding in Anny anyway. Meh. More information, it’s all I want!

Also, just a thought: Wouldn’t it be interesting if the man did make it home? Perhaps you have to die in 73 to make it back to 08 (or 09.) That would give Sam quite a problem… I don’t think he’d be able to commit suicide, and letting himself die after all he’s been through with the people there… Who knows.

The only problem, Sam may have imagined that the girl said that the politician did not make it home, so, if he did “really” hear that, I doubt that this idea could work. =/
