Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.
It was a wasted empty death…
Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.
Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.
To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.

why they chose her to die is beyond me

Luke and Mara reaction to his death would have deen alot more
intresting than Lukes reaction to Mara death

The entire Skywalker-Solo family structure will be destroyed by Mara’s death! For one thing, she wasn’t killed by an enemy, but a family member. That’s just not going to work. There is no way that Jacen can live at the end, which means that a total of 3 family members will be dead. This is going to destroy Star Wars! And also, this death isn’t like Anakin’s. Mara has been with us for 16 years! Unlike Anakin who was only here for 2! Bring her back!!!
I was in Chapters today and spoiled myself by seeing who Darth Ever So Stupid decided to sacrifice.
I’m numb. One of my favorite heroines is gone.

I hate to admit this but killing Mara was the only choice that made sense from a writer’s/publisher’s standpoint. Here is why…
Because Lucas owns the rights to Luke, Han, Leia and all the characters from the movies, they cannot be killed by authors writing for the EU star wars novels without his express permission so all of those characters are out. It would be a bad idea from a publisher standpoint to kill off younger characters such as Ben, Jaina, Zekk, Tahiri, etc. because they’re going to need these characters down the line to continue the star wars saga because let’s face it, Luke and Leia are over 60, and I think Han is over 70!!!
Mara, while a fan favorite and loved by all, was approaching the end of her usefulness to the EU because they were not likely to keep using the Rebel/Empire generation in future stories…at least I hope not, I think any more stories of Han and Wedge flying in combat is a bit silly at their age. But killing Mara gives the series the edge it needs to really build the conflict between Luke, Jacen, Jaina and especially Ben which is likely where the EU is going to continue on with.
If you’re wondering about the Lucas rights thing with regard to Chewbacca, I believe Lucas released his rights so a band could make a tribute song to Chewbacca. I think it plays in the background in the movie “Clerks” when they’re in the video store talking about contractors being killed with the 2nd death star was destroyed.
And don’t ask me about Crix Madine’s death in Darksaber…I assume since he was such a minor character from the movies that Lucas probably didn’t care??? Who knows…
