Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.
It was a wasted empty death…
Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.
Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.
To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.

Mara’s death started to be the downfall of the star wars universe for me. They just kill major characters off for dramatic effect which seems cheap. They turned Jacen into a sadistic prick and then expect me to mourn him in Invincible. I’m still trying to figure out the point of this series cause I don’t see beleviable one. I’d rewind back to end of YJK series if it was up to me cause the direction since that is horrible.
There has GOT to be a way to bring Mara back. She is my alter-ego π I am also disappointed that Anakin Solo, the NAMESAKE of Anakin Skywalker, was killed before he could reach his full potential. Mara is a POWERFUL female character, very strong and likeable. Reading books with her in them is awesome for me and I think her death was unnessesary.
SO PLEASE BRING BACK MARA JADE SKYWALKER!!! And if possible, Anakin Solo!
Hey fred, guess what? I’d rewind back to the end of the YJK series and rewrite everything from that point on as well. I LOVED that series, and believe that the NJO and onwards has just given those characters one raw deal after another! Now, both of the Solo boys are dead, and Jaina is just a bitch who needs to get her head kicked in! And as for her love life… well, need I say more? (Don’t care much for Jag though, he seemed unnecessary. Zekk just seems more “real” and interesting to me. Plus, best friends make the best couples, I’ve heard.)
Anyway, even if they DID do a rewrite from YJK onwards, I’d be on board, but then you’d get all the uptight NJO fans complaining. So I guess we’re screwed either way.
Still, if they could rewrite Battlstar Galactica, they could probably do that with the EU. Actually, I’m thinking they NEED to do this, and just ignore what those idiotic fans think.

The death was meaningless because in the end Jacen wasn’t a strong character. Honestly, they should just revert back to the pre-NJO. I liked Anakin a lot more then Jacen, and Jaina never is written the same book to book. Also, while I love reading the Legacy comics, I hate the fact I know Luke Skywalker fails in the end. The Sith always come back, bigger and stronger it seems. Can’t we please just have the Jedi win, but come up with better villains then the Sith? Anyway, count me as someone who loved the Mara Jade character from the moment I read Timothy Zahn’s original trilogy. They made her weak in the NJO and only in the end made her the badass we remember her as. Also, can Luke please have some sort of happiness in his life last longer then a few years (in star wars time). Just retcon this stuff, make it a bad dream or a long, drawn out Force vision that can easily be changed. Plus, where the hell has Lando been for the past couple of years? Can’t wait to play as Mara Jade in the Force Unleashed Wii game (she is one of the playable characters in the Force Unleashed 2 player mode only on Wii)!
I’ve made my comments known already about the whole debacle. I just realized something in what you mentioned, Chris M. The writers throughout the books after the Thrawn series didn’t know how to write Mara. She is such a complex character that they didn’t know what to do with her. They did make her weak in the NJO series but in the hands of her creator, Zahn, she wouldn’t have been poisoned and pushed aside like a supporting actress. Zahn is the only one who has written her to be them most badass woman in the galaxy (yes, that’s over even Leia in my book). Mara was, of course, badass in TTT, and she and Luke were awesome together in SQ. The closest any author aside from Zahn who got close was Stackpoole with I, Jedi. And he co-wrote THE story of Mara Jade in her own graphic novel. In the end, Ms Travis (ty) did in fact write the best Mara I’d seen in a while….then she gave our heroine a lobotomy and killed her.
I am almost glad we won’t be seeing Mara in profic anymore because with the writers they have now, they still wouldn’t know how to write her. She would still be in the background like in NJO and LOTF. What I hope for someday, if he could ever get permission, is a Zahn novel based on Mara. We can still hope, Mara Jade fans. Or just keep reading fan fiction, where Mara will always live.
And now, I want a Wii so I can play as Mara ( I already played her on Mysteries of the Sith and Masters of Tesa Ki..teras ka…you know what I mean.
Why did Mara Jade have to die. She is the best character to be introduced into the Star Wars series. And Jacen didn’t love Mara. His so called “sacrifice” wasn’t what was prophesied he should have to do. All in all Sacrifice was a poorly written book and Mara needs to come back to life.
I personally feel that Mara Jade shouldn’t have died, but was eventually going to. I wanted another 10 years with her, alongside Luke and the rest of the family, but I don’t forsee that future. I support this petition, but doubt it’s abilities.
I’ve long since given up on the poorly written, poorly plotted nonsense posing as professional fiction coming from Del Rey. Yes, I am just one person, but I’ve decided to vote with my wallet. The death of Mara was simply the last straw. Based on what I’ve seen from the EU, Luke would have been better off if he had accepted Vader’s offer at Bespin since all that’s happened since that point is senseless tragedy. If Mara’s death had made SENSE, I might not have had as many issues with it, but instead, it seemed utterly contrived and poorly conceived, tragedy for tragedy’s sake.
As far as I’m concerned, the Expanded Universe ends with “The Last Command.” No Gary Stu Mandalorians, or ridiculous KJA superweapons, or inane Vong. At some point after TLC, the professional fiction jumped over to the SW “Mirror Universe” and they never bothered to tell us…
I say that the pen is mightier than the lightsaber. I desperately want to see Mara brougt back to life. However, there is only one man who is capable of such an undertaking- Timothy Zahn. I personally feel that he is the greatest expanded universe writter of them all !! He made Grand Admiral Thrawn an Imperial character that I could identify with on a far greater scale than Lucas did with Palpatine or even Vader himself. Certainly he could fix this mess and bring Mara back to us.

*I* could do it, and effectively, and without any stupidity…and for someone who has not yet published a book (but about 5 are WIP) it may sound dumb, but *someone* should do it. Either Timothy Zahn or myself.
On the other hand… Yoda’s “ghost” (why haven’t we heard from him?) could instruct a humble young trainee at the moment Mara dies. Quickly, Train E. has a human rep. droid or clone made of Mara while the Force enters Mara and reverses her death. Then she needs to recover for a few years, before returning to normal.
A third option: We desperate fans could have George Lucas make Star Wars 7! “Yeah, right?” you ask. Well, just listen. Harrison Ford just played in an action movie. Why not do it again? Some people have met Mark Hamill at Star Wars conventions, and said he was bored. Why not give him something to do? Carrie Fisher would probably welcome a return to SW too. And casting Mara would be lots of fun.
One of those ways, bring Mara back! Her death is unacceptable and I see no reason do it. Stupid retards who decided on it!…
