Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.

It was a wasted empty death…

Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.

Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.

To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.

Please sign in and together we can be THE FORCE that will bring Mara back.

I respect your opinion Michael, but I stand by my belief that the NJO needs to be redone as well. They can still have the whole war against the Yuuzhan Vong thing, but the characters need to be treated better. LOTF may have delivered the final blow, but NJO was where it started.

Besides, JJ Abrams rebooted the Star Trek timeline, and that was significantly more than about 40 books. Hell, it was about 40 years!

I don’t really care for Star Trek to speak of, but it was my understanding that none of it made any sense to speak of and had little to no continuity to begin with which would make rebooting it pretty easy.

Oh no, Star Trek has a LOT of substance to it. It has been a cultural icon for longer than Star Wars, actually. JJ took a big risk in rebooting its time line, and there were many hardcore Trekkies who were upset over it, but I for one think it has seriously paid off. We’ve now got a new Trek canon that is fresh, open, and free from all the constraints that would have faced them had they chosen to just go along with what has already been established.

And let’s face it, given the crap that is still being shelled out by those hacks hired by Del Rey to write the EU, a reboot would be a refreshing change of pace. If they did that, then not only could Mara be brought back, but so could the Solo boys and virtually every other character that has been killed off or otherwise screwed over.

I loved the YJK series, so I am particularly pissed about the Solo kids and their friends. They were meant to be the heroes of the next generation. Instead, they got chewed up and crapped out. And lets not forget Mara being killed off.

I know its unorthodox, but a reboot would fix that.

I’m not talking about movies. I’m talking about novels as these are, which as I said from what I’m told the novels don’t go with each other at all well which really wouldn’t be that surprising since they never made it a point to keep the story contiguous. Insofar as completely redoing everything I don’t trust Delrey to do that, it would just give them the opportunity to build their crooked house on a foundation they built as opposed to the one that Bantaam started building for them for them the first time around.
In addition to this fact the very nature of a complete “reboot” how can you be certain that Mara would survive or that the Solo kids and their mates would turn out better? Maybe Luke would kill Mara this time around, or they try to make Jaina Solo into an intrepid super woman who protects her weak twin and younger brother (which we all know they would, because the world needs more d-cup super women who are ultra butch supreme badasses yet still feminine…. Sorry had to sit through that awful Losers movie with some mates earlier…)?
Or worse than assassinating their characters in their figurative cradles, they could just as easily decide to not have them exist at all.

Huh. Never thought of that actually. That is quite a scary thought. I suppose it could be done if they had a new and better set of authors. But then, how could we get that to happen?

Well I had a post answering this and showmescifi ate it again because my name and such is gone…. So instead I’m wondering if anyone knows if the signature this fellow had on the swtor forums

Luke: “A Jedi without a lightsaber—”
Ben: “Is a lot less dashing to the girls.”
Luke: “Not what I was going to say, but probably true.”

is an actual line from the books since LotF?

Yes, it is. It’s in one of the new FOTJ books.

Unfortunate for the cause for a rewrite, I found this information.

Which doesn’t always mean the new books are popular. It just means people are buying the books because it says, STAR WARS, on it. I wonder how many of those books get thrown out after reading a few pages? Who keeps drinking the juri juice that DR spews out?

Meh, that doesn’t mean anything. It only means that nobody wanted the hardcover novelization of Clash of the Titans or Sex and the City 2 that week. Though I’m surprised I’d not seen it before since one would expect they’d be up for some bragging since Star Wars novels haven’t been high up on a general best seller list (as opposed to the narrowed down ultra specific list “best regurgitated sci fi compendium” etc) in many a year.

lol, for the sake of argument I went and looked up a listing of the books that were out now just to see how many there were and there was a link to a couple of different reviews from Inferno onward so I opened the one for Invincible and it said “This book “Invincible” focuses almost entirely on Jaina Solo, it is very much her book just as “Traitor” was Jacen’s.” I actually started laughing at that comparison so hard I almost remembered what it was like to think fondly of this series but then it went away again =(.
