the European Space Agency’s Ariadna initiative is now looking into the possibility of using millisecond pulsars, rotating neutron stars that spin faster than 40 revolutions per second as navigation beacons for starships. The pulsars apparently can be used as very accurate timing mechanisms.

Amazing isn’t it?
A thousand years ago ancient vessels navigated the oceans of Earth by starlight. A thousand years later, a slightly more advanced version of the system will be used to navigate to the stars themselves.
