Bill and Ted’s Heinous Remake Coming Soon April 7, 2008

Strange things are afoot at the circle K.

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure — that classic goofball time traveling SciFi flick is on track for a remake. Keannu Reaves apparently isn’t interested.

Rather than a remake what might be cool is some sort of prequel or sequel showing us the World that the Wyld Stallions created in the future and some kind of time rift that the descendants of Bill and Ted are involved in.

Lando Calrissian isn’t the only one that can make a deal with the Empire.

In this special “Star Wars” edition of Deal or No Deal set to air on April 28th the Banker will be replaced by Darth Vader!

Oh and instead of models…one contestant get Stormtroopers while apparently the other contestant the ultimate adolescent male fantasy for SciFi — a stage full of Leia’s dressed like Leia in Jabba palace!

Most SciFi fans will remember Charlton Heston’s SciFi career as being encapsulated in two critical scenes from The Planet of the Apes.

Heston was in other SciFi movies though including The Omega Man (which was remade in 2007 with Will Smith as I am Legend) He was also in Soylent Green.

For the final time here’s our fav two Heston clips…and get your dirty hands off me you damn dirty ape and they blew it up….

Star Trek Klingon Empire : A Burning House – REVIEW April 7, 2008

The short review is that Star Trek Klingon Empire A Burning House by Keith R. A. DeCandido is an excellent book.

It’s actually one of the finest Star Trek books that we’ve ever reviewed here on ShowMeSciFi.com.

This is not a book about Battle or the usual stuff that you’d think of with Klingons. This is an exploration of the Klingon culture itself through an elegantly weaved plot spanning characters and situations that are both new and old.

Everyone’s favorite Klingon – Worf – is here as is his brother Kurn. What an awesome plotline that was in Star Trek on TV…in this book it comes to a new conclusion that fans of the Sons of Mogh will not want to miss.

Our old friends from DS9 make an appearance…and remember that planet that Worf visited where the survivors of Kittomer lived with Romulans…..oH YEAH…they’re back too (though they don’t do so well).

This book from cover to cover was a page turner..not to find out what battle comes next or who lives and who dies but because DeCandido makes us want to know what happens next to our ‘friends’.  A Burning House is not the first book about the crew of I.K.S Gorkon, but it is the first one that we’ve ever read in this series. Often jumping in to a series late is not a good idea..but A Burning House is a fresh start and can be enjoyed by those that have never read anything else about the I.K.S. Gorkon.

Star Trek books work best when they remind readers what they loved about the various series and bring in the characters that they know – while adding a dash of the new.  To be honest A Burning House was an impulse buy..it was not necessarily on our ‘to read list’..it was just something we picked up..and we’re glad that we did.

Battlestar Galactica Caprica Characters Go To Casting April 6, 2008

With Battlestar Galactica wrapping up work is gearing up for the prequel Caprica series.  Caprica will center around two families, the Graystones and the Adamas, and the goings on leading up to the Cylons as we see them on the show now.

AOL’s TV Squad website has the full casting notes DANIEL GRAYSTONE creator of the Cylons and JOSEPH ADAMS (Admiral Adama’s father).  Their respective families are also in the show…no word in their about who is the president of colonies and how that might play out.

It will be interesting to see the true genesis of the Cylon, though somehow i suspect that since we know where it ends up, it might be really challenging to keep interesting.

Battlestar Galactica 4×1 We’re BAAAAACK! April 6, 2008

Finally after nearly a year off…Battlestar Galactica is back.

Praise the gds of cobol.

The beginning of this first episode was great..massive cylon fleet, battle all around and simply amazing.

Then it kinda lamed out a bit didn’t it?

I hope this whole season won’t be just about the ‘new’ cylons and the hunt for the final one…sure that’s interesting but it’s also just plain weird.

Anders gets scanned by a Cylon Raider ..and WOA…wait a sec since when are centurions in Raiders in the new show? aren’t this just organic kind of things that don’t require centurions anymore?

And considering that Anders, Tigh and the others must’ve been scanned by Cylons before…why wouldn’t they have had the same effect before?

It’s dumb and it kinda made this show suck (but just a little).

It will be neat to figure out what the frak Kara Thrace really is (cylon?) and where the whole Baltar thing is going..

Baseball fans rejoice.  It’s that time of year again. But forget about kriffing corked bats if you really want to fry the stitches of a Rawlings — pick up a lightsaber instead.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is one of the most ambitious projects LucasArts has ever launched. The combination of a great new Star Wars story with revolutionary new technology and game play means more fun than you’ve ever had in the Star Wars universe,” said Peter Hirschmann, Vice-President of Product Development, LucasArts in a statement. “We can’t wait until gamers get their hands on it this September.”

We can’t wait either (but we will).

We’ve been writing about this game for awhile and probably will lots more before the September release.

Flash Gordon CANCELLED !! April 2, 2008

That’s a wrap.

When we first heard about Flash Gordon being brought to SciFi Channel, admittedly we were somewhat enthusiastic.

We blogged about the buildup to the show, who would play what, and what the show would focus on.

You know the regular pre-show hype.

A year ago — April of 2007 we blogged that the show’s principal star wasn’t a SciFi fan himself — and it showed throughout his flawed acting in the show.

The first episode of Flash Gordon was disgusting. It might have got marginally better by the fourth episode but that’s really not saying much.

The acting was pathetic, the plots weak and the overall drama was non-existent.

We’ve called for Flash Gordon to be canceled before — and now that the day has finally come, we’re obviously not surprised. The final episode aired barely a month ago.

HOW could SciFi have ever let that show go into production which such crappy scripts? Sure Flash Gordon is a campy construct, but hey so was Battlestar Galactica and look what Ron Moore was able to do with that.

Flash Gordon was flawed from the start. If you’re going to make SciFi work you need to have writers/producers and actors that are fans, that are committed to doing something innovative and that respond to criticism. Flash Gordon failed on all accounts and now its gone. It didn’t have to be this way and someone high up at NBC Universal should really law down the lay to make sure this type of travesty doesn’t happen again.

Greedo is no doubt the most famous Rodian in the Galaxy (and likely the only Rodian that many know).

His appearance in Episode IV, was brief but memorable.

And of course with all of Lucas’ revisions, the question of who shot first is always there.

Soo we here at ShowMeSciFi.com decided to focus on Greedo for our Star Wars/Atom Films Fan Movie Challenge entry.

Called : Greedo’s Guide to Bounty Hunting – It’s a neat mashup (we think) that we hope you like. Please do click on the link and go check it out on StarWars.com (and give it 5 stars!!)

Who is the more foolish? The Fool, or the Fool who follows him? April 1, 2008

Happy April Fools Day!!

There are alot of Fools in Sci Fi dom. Our quick list is:

1) Fox for cancelling Firefly

2) Fox for not renewing Sarah Connor Chronicles (yet)

3) George Lucas for not embracing the Expanded Star Wars Universe

4) The producers of Flash Gordon

5) The producers of Bionic Woman.

And of course the most famous ‘Fool’ line:

Who is the more foolish? The Fool, or the Fool who follows him?

And no — we would never call Sir Alec Guiness (or Obi Wan) a Fool.

Huh.

While Firefly and Battlestar Galactica seem to me to be two different — though both gritty Sci-Fi – shows, there actually is a more tangible link between the two.

Writer Jane Espenson actually wrote episodes for both shows (browncoats and toasters).  In a really interesting interview she spill the beans on the difference between the two shows and how much influence Firefly had on BSG.

What was it like being the only Firefly writer to come over to BSG? Did you get a sense that BSG was trying to imitate some of Firefly’s more revolutionary elements, like the grittier, less heroic tone?

I don’t think Firefly influenced BSG. BSG was being developed shortly after Firefly was, and I’m under the impression that Ron would’ve been too busy coming up with Battlestar to be watching Firefly.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic #26 Vector Part 2 March 31, 2008

We’ve been excited about Vector since it was first announced.

Unfortunately there is very little to be excited about in Vector Part 2.

The art in this book is the worst yet in Knights of the Old Republic with a very cartoon’ish look that just doesn’t work (it might work for Tag and Bink but not KOTOR).

Sure we understand that there needs to be setup issues for plot, but this is a little ridiculous. Is Vector just about some time plague with the Rakghoul?

And sure the Mandies are cool and all, but where are the Sith?

We really hope that the action, plot and art pick up in this series. A massive crossover like Vector is a great thing for the Star Wars Universe — but when it is so poorly executed it is a pointless exercise in futility.

Sure all the hype this week is about the new Season 4 of Battlestar Galactica..

I’m still pretty excited about Season Zero though.

Issue #5 is FRAKING awesome…solid art, neat plot with the ship overrun by what seem like proper Colonials…but aren’t.

Who need the cylons when you’ve got a rebel insurgency within the colonies and a potential civil war?

I guess the colonies were pretty messed up even without the Cylon’s nuking them into non-existence.

starbuckpicsmall.jpgWOW.

This month’s Entertainment Weekly has an awesome spread with Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica)…

and yes she looks fine.

Even more interesting though to SciFi fans is her revelations about the show, what she likes (the cast), dislikes (her Viper) and the word she never uses (Frak).

Check out the awesome video interview:

The general idea is that they’ll get you caught up and give you a few tidbits about what will be revealed in Season 4. Nothing too crazy but still kinda frakking cool.

When we first saw the ads in Dark Horse’s Star Wars Legacy for the new miniature figures…we were krifing stoked.

Then we went over to the vendors site to actually see what the figures look like…

ummm.. i dunno about you but that doesn’t look like Cade Skywalker. Since when does Cade have straight hair?

The Delilah Blue figure is even worse.

It (cause i refuse to call this trash a woman) looks like some kind of weird tranny..

I don’t know who approved this trash..but I really hope Lucas Licensing (and Dark Horse) put a stop to this travesty.

Add one more item to the pre-season 4 Battlestar Galactica hype toaster..

With toaster being the operative word ..as in build your own Toaster and take over the…er..gain the respect and admiration of your friends and family…yeahh that’s it.

HOW TO ENTER
“Make” a Cylon: Use whatever you like: blinking lights for eyes, metal armor as a costume, toasters… anything to show the world that you’re a Cylon maker. The only caveat is that it has to be something physical (no Photoshop/art entries). Your Cylon can be of the humanoid or robotic variety, real or abstract, or anything else you can think of.

All you need to enter is post the image up in the http://www.flickr.com/groups/make/pool/ group and tag it “dvicemakecylon” . Sounds neat and we’ll let you know when we’ve got a few from ShowMeSciFi.com up in the mix.

George Lucas : There is no Star Wars Beyond Episode IV (Return of the Jedi) March 25, 2008

The expanded Star Wars universe – all the great stuff in Star Wars Legacy of the Force books and the Star Wars Legacy series….ISN’T Star Wars to George Lucas.

In an interview over on StarWars.com Lucas admits that for him it ends with Episode IV (Return of the Jedi)

Do you think you’d have other people continue the Star Wars saga past Episode VI or turn some of the other material into films?

But there’s no story past Episode VI, there’s just no story. It’s a certain story about Anakin Skywalker and once Anakin Skywalker dies, that’s kind of the end of the story. There is no story about Luke Skywalker, I mean apart from the books. But there’s three worlds: There’s my world that I made up, there’s the licensing world that’s the books, the comics, all that kind of stuff, the games, which is their world, and then there’s the fans’ world, which is also very rich in imagination, but they don’t always mesh. All I’m in charge of is my world. I can’t be in charge of those other people’s world, because I can’t keep up with it.
