Star Wars: Legacy Volume 1–Broken

The future of Star Wars is here in an all-new adventure set more than a century after Return of the Jedi and the New Jedi Order! The Jedi Temple is attacked, an Emperor is betrayed, and the Sith are born anew! A lot can happen in a hundred years, but that’s just the beginning of the story!
I don’t know where to begin on this I’ve read about 5 Legacy issues so far and it is so unlike any Star Wars series i’ve ever encountered it’s totally unreal (in a good way). I’ll be sure to blog about it more as issues come out. If you’re behind just click on the image and get a copy for yourself

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic – Trade Paperback of the comic book sensation. December 11, 2006

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Vol. 1–Commencement Trade paperback
Thousands of years before Luke Skywalker would destroy the Death Star in that fateful battle above Yavin 4, one lone Padawan would become a fugitive hunted by his own Masters, charged with murdering every one of his fellow Jedi-in-training!
This is the trade paperback compiliation of this groundbreaking downright awesome comic book series. I’ve rushed every month to my local comic book seller to get a copy of each issue and it’s always a sellout. So now instead of having to wait – you can just go and get the first 6 issues in one volume (just click the image if you want to get your own).
If this isn’t the comic book of the year i don’t know what is.
JPod by: Douglas Coupland December 5, 2006

Sometimes I stray from the SciFi realm, but just a bit. JPod was such an excursion.
It’s typical Coupland though a bit more rambling and useless pages than I care for. The story is more about the people and their messed up lives than the video game culture they work in (which is obviously meant to be EA – Electronic Arts). Though the backdrop of BoardX (the game they are working on) turning into SpriteQuest is the key thing that keeps this meanding monstrosity together.
It’s a decent and engaging read when all is said and done, but certainly not one of Coupland’s best works
Hunters of Dune November 22, 2006

I was somewhat pessimistic when i first picked up Hunters of Dune. Sure it’s written by the same dynamic duo of Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson that wrote the Dune Prequels (House Atreides, House Harkonnen and House Corinno) and sure they wrote the pre-prequels (The Butlerian Jihad (Legends of Dune, Book 1)
, The Machine Crusade (Legends of Dune, Book 2)
and The Battle of Corrin (Legends of Dune, Book 3)
) but how are they going to pull off a sequal a climax to Dune?
The last Dune book written by the now deceased Frank Herbert was Chapterhouse Dune (Dune Chronicles, Book 6) written in 1987. Hunters of Dune picks up precisely where that one leaves off and doesn’t skip a beat.
In the process Herbert (the son) and Anderson weave a tale that is perhaps the best Dune novel (with the exclusion of the original Dune) yet. It brings together the entire canon of Dune stories from pre-prequel, to prequel to mainline Dune stories.
My only complaint is that the sequel to Hunters of Dune won’t be available until August of 2007.
Star Trek : Encounters (game) October 20, 2006

I don’t think i’ve ever seen a Star Trek game for the PS2 that was any good, until now. Star Trek Encounters isn’t the most graphically intense or strategic game. It is just plain fun.
It took me all of 10 minutes to get into it and I haven’t put the game down since.
Here’s a view vids of the game:

Star Wars: Yoda : Dark Rendezvous (a clone wars novel) October 20, 2006

One my favorites things about Star Wars Episode 2 Attack of the Clones was Yoda finally kicking some ass.
No surprise then that i really liked Dark Rendezvous which is Yoda focussed Clone Wars era novel. Count Dooku lures Yoda out to his hideout with the ruse that he’s thinkgin about turning back to he Jedi. Apparently you can go home again but Dooku decides not too in the end.
Great read and defiantly my new fav Yoda tale.

This one takes us all the way back to the Encounter at Farpoint. Remember that? The very first episode of TNG. Those same living ships are back and this time they are lots of them and lots of other ‘living’ space entities too.

Another Winner! Titan gets sucked into a distortion that sends it to the Andromeda Galaxy. Tuvok (of Voyager fame) gets real nervous thinking he’s stuck far from home again.
Star Trek Titan : Taking Wing October 6, 2006

I’ve never been particularly fond of Star Trek books, until now.
Star Trek Titan Book One Taking Wing by: Michael A. Martin is a great freakin start to an awesome new series.
Riker no longer the second fiddle to Picard and is now in command of his own ship, the Titan. Unlike other Starfleet vessels, Titan is crewed by mostly non-humanoids which makes this an interesting bunch with lots of room for character study.
Titan is supposed to be a ship of exploration but they get drawn to Romulus to help the Romulans figure things out politically after Shinzon blew up the Senate (Star Trek Nemesis – remember that movie?).
All in all a great book that I highly recommend.
