It’s official. Col. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) takes over command of the Atlantis expedition in Season 4.
Dr. Weir will be removed after either quitting or being fired by the IOC. This isn’t the first time Weir will have been removed from a Stargate command. She was removed from command of the main of SGC too and replaced by none other than O’Neil. (Weir replaced General Hammond).
Finally the military will be in control of Stargate Atlantis and finally the smartest person will be command in stead of a diplomat that has no real scientific or military skills.
Congrats Col. Carter and Welcome to the Pegasus galaxy.

Weir is one of my favorites on the show. I too liked this show because it was fresh and not SG1. I’m sure I’ll stop watching, having never been a huge fan of SG1, and seeing that this is going that direction. Pity. Thank goodness for BSG.

I wonder what the deal is, isn’t Sheppard a Colonel as well? So why is Carter in Command. I remember from the movie Zulu that when there are two officers of equal rank that the one who got his rank the first would be in charge. And IIRC Sheppard was made a Colonel before Carter.
Hmm… Am I the only on ehtat has a probelm with the hacks that are running these programs? The writing quality and storyline of SG1 has been diminishing for the few years. The ‘FINALE’ was a complete cop-out. The writers should all be fired if they havent been already; along with any/all producers. When Oneil left (for legitimate reasons), the show started on a gradual downward spiral. The Orai were a welcomed new challenge, however the stroyline became very choppy. IE, they let the cast members start writing ridiculous episodes. Uh… once you win the battle and wrap up the story, then maybe you can start letting people horse around. the producers should be embarrassed by some of the episodes.
Getting back to the main issue… The way they ended SG1 was pitifful. Now we have to buy a 97min movie becuase they couldnt wrap up the show in a few episodes? Uh, the final was ridiculous!!!!
Atlantis… The first 3 seasons were excellent. However, the way the replicatros jsut ‘appeared’ again shows the writer’s incompetence. the replicators were created by a robot on sg1. Hmmm… did they just show up in Pegasus to dispatch Weir? Speaking of which… why is Weir gone? Was she the best choice? Well, no… Oneil would have been better, but she did have a strong role in the show. Now Carter is the Commander? Uh, are you kidding me? It sounds like SG1 ended and she had time left on her contract so they said “Hey, u can be the commander, YAAAY!’. She looks sloppy on the show anyway. CUT YOUR HAIR!!!!! What kind of military person would look like they just roleld out of bed and decided to be a commander? She should NOT be in charge. At the very most, she should be the TECH expert and work with McKay on occassion. If the show ends (SG1), so should her contract. The writers really need to buckle down and do the right thing. As SCIFI followers, they really need to be true to the story line that they initiate. I dont rememeber Start Trek having a ‘Casual Friday’, which is exactly what has happened to the SG1 franchise.
Oh… just wondering… has the image quality changed on Atlantis this season? Did they lose their budget? Are they using walmart camcorders now? Seriously… WTF?
carter was made a colonel in season 8 which would be season 1 of atlantis. shepherd wasnt a colonel until season 2 and carter is a full colonel while shepherd is a lt colonel.
man alive u ppl who are slaging sam/amanda of just becuse they kill wier and put sam in waw get over it amanda tapping is a grate actress and at first i was unshore if it was going to be allright but it is she dose a gd job. and just because u dint like stargate dosent mean that u should hate or dislike stargate atlantis just becuse sam/amanda is in the show evern thought she was a grate part in stargate she was only 1 person out of mainy so therefore it isnt going to change it much

to responsd to 14 and 17. 14 is correct (for themost part). 17, what in the world are you talking about. If anyone, ANYONE, should have gone to atlantis it should haave been Daniel Jackson OR Colonel Oneil. They were the original starts of Stargate and made it what it is today. Well, actually the writers (or someone) ruined the once GREAT show that was stargate.
Carter, yes she’s a great actress. So are a lot of people. That has nothing to do with the story line! If you want great actors, go to the theater! This is SCIFI baby!
