Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.
It was a wasted empty death…
Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.
Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.
To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.
Please sign in and together we can be THE FORCE that will bring Mara back.

People didn’t like them killing this character, they didn’t care for the handling of Jacen Solo’s character, to a lesser extent they seem to also be upset at how numerous other characters were jacked around and every comment made from them in reviews or the SW forums or anything like that they’ve defended themselves or deferred the blame to someone else. The only thing that will ever get DelRey’s attention is a drop in sales, just don’t buy their crap anymore.
BINGO! Thank you, Micheal. Just what I’ve been saying. Hit them in their pocketbooks. STOP BUYING THE BOOKS!!! (BTW, the next full 9-book series will be ALL hardback. If I do my math right, $20 a book times 9…EEEK) It’s not worth the paper it’s written on. Fan fiction is free!
Star Wars 7 would be great, Penguin! Although, since TTT is in 3 parts, you’d have to do a trilogy. Not holding my breath.
But, if I did have my choice in casting, try this out:
Mara Jade – Yancy Butler (she of TNT’s Witchblade series)
Thrawn – I always saw John Delancie (Q on Star Trek) playing him.
In theory if you figured from the coverprice on Invincible they could be angling for as much as 243.00 gross per person who would buy their hardcovers. With Denning involved and the sorry shape they already left it in I’d rather wad that money up and throw it away; at least I wouldn’t have garbage sitting around my bookshelf cluttering it up.
On a side note, like I’ve said before I can’t imagine even Delrey would have mishandled people’s favored characters and what not had they known farther in advance that Lucas Licensing was going to renew their contract.
When this crap was started it represented the bulk of what remained for Delrey to put on shelves before they potentially lost the ability to do so. Toward that end we all know the surest way to guarantee that they would get paid was shock tactics.
The fact that Delrey and these authors particularly Denning who seems to be their go to guy, despite the fact that his only contribution to the “galaxy” as it is is “Allana” another toddler we can shuffle off in a corner someplace until they get old enough to be believable in slicing people up with a lightsaber; were willing to sink to such lousy substandard writing actually makes reality television seem better by comparison.
Seriously who couldn’t have come up with this same crap if you had the time to sit around writing? As for whether or not they (Denning in particular) are good authors in general especially in regards to the EU is a moot point as far as I’m concerned.
I might be the greatest philanthropist in history but if I got caught running an urban sweatshop to support my habit of habituating brothels staffed by underage boys I doubt people would let it slide based on my past good deeds. In other words.. Denning’s selections in the NJO or Traviss’ Republic Commando series etc ought not absolve them of the shoddy work and downright contempt they showed for this series’ fans many of which have been reading for the better part of two decades.
Bring back Mara! She was the most interesting character that was not in the movies. I could not believe she died. Bring Her BACK!!
I suggest they ignore everything that happened in the Legacy series (pretend it’s an alternate universe) and then start rewritting everything (well at least the Mara Jade death).
Wow, well over a year and a half, and people still petitioning…
I like Bullet posts……
My Opinion: Mara’s death unnecesary, rather unbelievable and out of character, bring her back.
Unnecesary: As posted many times before, people read fantasy for FANTASY, an escape from reality. They buy books that are in a SERIES becauese THEY WANT TO SEE THEIR FAVORITE CHARACTERS AGAIN. They do not buy to see their favorite characters die.
Unbelievable: Even putting aside Mara’s competance in fighting or the force, SHE WAS AN ASSASSIN ORIGINALLY, for Christ’s sake. Assassins, and Mara especially as demonstrated over and over and over, do not make hasty emotional decisions or go looking for knockdown brawls because they are pissed. They survey a situation, take the appropriate measures, and off someone efficiently. Mara had already said personally that Jacen had gotten way powerful. Tell me, if you’re about to go fight an insanely powerful Sith Lord, to protect your son and the galaxy, why not bring your GRAND JEDI MASTER HUSBAND, who also happens to run around protecting the galaxy, and cares for his son, and you, fiercely, with you as backup? Way retarded there, thanks.
As for the author writing her death, and whether or not she had the right…. Assuming you have any honor at all(which, I know, is rare in America certainly, unless you can make a buck looking honorable), who takes it into their own hands to take someone else’s creation, which is massively popular, and destroy it. For those of you that think that’s cool, you should go to the beach and just run around smashing people’s sand castles, and see how long it takes you to get your ass beat. Temporary or not, fictional or not, my creation is my creation. If you can’t see the clear parallel in the smashing sand castles analogy, then your brain is clearly not working so well.
and for Kalira and the rest of the bashers out there. Consider this with an open mind(if you can even access it)
THIS IS A PETITION TO BRING HER BACK, NOT A FORUM. Noone ANYWHERE asked for your input. You can choose to sign the petition, or not, whatever. When you refuse a petition in person(in public somewhere, outside the internet), do you run around harassing the petitioner and everyone signing it? Some of you people got on here just to explain to some people why their interests or expectations for a book/ongoing series are stupid, because their desire for FANTASY is not REALISTIC enough. Please.
The people flaming Kalira were on point as hell, she was just here pissing people off for no reason whatsoever.
For those of you that think killing off lots of characters is cool, check out George R. R. Martins’ books. He kills off a hero or main character almost every five pages. You will get plenty of this ‘realistic killing for a purpose’ thing you people crave.
For the rest of us, we just want the same thing we’ve continued to enjoy AND PAY FOR, MONETARILY, for the last what, twenty odd years? THE CHARACTERS WE LIKE IN THE UNIVERSE WE LOVE.
I looked and couldn’t find it, but I would love to see book sales for before and after Mara’s Death. I personally through the book across the room(i never throw anything when angry, especially not my precious books) and haven’t bought one since, and have heard many utter the same. Peace out, Star Wars, I miss you.
I’ve lost interest in SW now that MJ’s gone. It’s funny because I didn’t particularly like her at first. And then just when I getting into her character, she gets killed off. Predictable, right? I don’t really think this petition is going to bring her back, but it’d be cool if it did. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
Tony, I and many other fans of Mara feel your pain.
As for seeing any profit margins before and after Sacrifice, you’re not going to find them. DR doesn’t want us to see them. It’s not that they’d be embarrassed, because I’m sure the profits dropped considerably since. The fact is – they don’t care. They get a black profit margin even if it’s small because people are still buying the books with the Star Wars name on them. Star Wars + Del Rey = diminished product.
I’ve said my peace over the year and a half since Sacrifice. I’m even almost done with my fanfic that rewrites the last end of the book the way it SHOULD have ended. It addresses all of the points Tony made about Mara Jade, the ASSASSIN.
With all due respect, and as much as I hate to say it, Kalira also has a right to express her opinion and her right to oppose ours. Yes, this is a petition…on a separate page with your optional comments to add. But THIS thread here IS a forum ABOUT the petition that Show Me SciFi sponsors. So, Kalira can defend her thoughts on Mara’s death.
Then we can list all the points against her opinion. Not that she’s wrong or we’re right, or vice versa. I would stress that the strong opinions against Mara’s death on here clearly outweigh those who were for it.
It’s not going to change things. Del Rey already has a 9 book series planned – without Mara. To paraphrase Obi Wan, Del Rey was supposed to show us the balance of Star Wars, not keep it in darkness. The Empire has won. The New Hope is in the form of fan-fiction for me. STOP BUYING THE BOOKS!
It is our only hope for a true Star Wars.
Hey, if it were up to me, I’d rewrite everything from the BEGINNING of the NJO series onwards. For starters, I wouldn’t f#%& up the Solo twins and their friends (which DID happen). And I’d make Mara survive well into old age.
Of course, the problem for that is that we’d get the pro Del Rey supporters complaining that they are ruining the story that has already been set out, but as far as I’m concerned, the story was ruined when they killed off Chewbacca. Killing Mara was just another nail in the coffin for me. So, I guess I’ll stick with the movies from now on.
But if they could redo Battlestar Galactica, couldn’t they do the same to Star Wars? Hell, I think they NEED it! Problem is, we get things like the Legacy comics, which people seem to love, where it proves that Luke’s order fails. So we’d need to tie things in to that or… you know what, I think I need to just lie down.
Hey, you know what the funny thing is? I actually still read the other non-Star Wars books by Del Rey, like Halo, but I still hate them for the Star Wars issue. KInd of funny, isn’t it?
God, I miss the good old days of the EU. I REALLY don’t know if I can put up with this crap anymore.
