Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.

It was a wasted empty death…

Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.

Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.

To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.

Please sign in and together we can be THE FORCE that will bring Mara back.

I personally disliked the killing of the Jacen character (both with his character assassination and the ridiculous and anaemic actual death scene) though I knew they were most likely going to kill off his character the general slaughter of characters including Mara. The dour tone set by the pathetic writing in this series from the very beginning left no doubt that someone important was going to die.

This cashing in exercise was just the beginning, now that they’ve basically knocked the last eighteen years worth of books out of the picture Denning who has been involved with every project since the NJO save Traviss’ prequels can pretty much do whatever his hack heart desires. Towards that end I hope anyone who can still stomach this crap enough to bother buying any of them like half assed characters, and plagiarized races, characters and settings because it seems that’s all he’s capable of.

As for Delrey they don’t care what fans think because as Madman said as long as they can cash in on the people who will buy it simply because it says “Star Wars” on the cover they’re happy. Del Rey has no method by which to give them any sort of feedback, not even a forum and I have to imagine that the star wars forums would have had more than a few people wanting Lucas to take comic books out of the same canon as the novels by now.

You know what would be a good idea for the book following Mara’s death? Luke discovers that Palpatine told Anakin it’s possible to use the Dark Side to create/preserve life; he then tries to discover and use this ability to bring Mara back. Or Jacen over time becomes regretful of having killed his aunt and tries to bring her back via the Dark Side.

sadly enough Mara Jade had to die. I hated it too but as del ray said if the characters don’t have conflict or danger the story can not go on. and as to the portion of the blog about the force ghost, Mara Jade Skywalker, if it wasn’t said here yet, waited until her body could be examined. She held onto corporial form until the funeral, she faded away while Saba was performing the eulogy.

as to the petition, if we bring Mara back now we eliminate the legitimacy of Star wars. it becomes just another story that is subject to change any time the authors want to make a few dollars.

Nellie – those are pretty good ideas for Alternate Universe (AU) stories for fan-fiction. You should try to write those down into a story and post it.
Unfortunately, that will be the only place to find any further stories involving Mara. It is too late for Del Rey to rehash any official stories now. They painted themselves in a corner (and it’s color is red-gold..hee !)
And Simon – first off, this petition here was never going to change Del Rey’s mind about actually bringing Mara back. It was a statement to give them feedback of how Mara fans feel about the injustice of her death.
And I disagree with you that Mara HAD to die. Del Rey said if the characters have no “conflict or danger the story can’t go on”. There was still several stories off the top of my head where Mara was involved that included conflict and danger. And even taking Mara out of the equation, there certainly were several stories that still involved Jacen. That boy was a walking conflicted and dangerous character. If you take Del Rey’s public reasons for offing Mara, then you’re not seeing the true reasons, of which I and Bored Micheal have stated.

I can understand the killing of Chewbacca, I didn’t like it but I understood it after what eighty something books perhaps the “someone needs to die” theory holds some water. The problem I have however is now that’s all they do, create characters then kill them, then take long standing (non Lucas) characters not created by anyone still writing in the EU and kill them. I’ve had non fiction works published, and I could have filled them with nothing but stories about wars, famine, sex and murder but that’s just lazy writing.

As was alluded to in the previous post I for one was looking forward to seeing where they were going to go with the Jacen character who seemed like a flawed hero to me, especially after the (admitedly basic) philosophical notions put forth in the novel “Traitor.” There are many ways to show conflict and strife without death. I for one would have settled for seeing Jacen (Caedus) slice off Luke’s good hand and flash forward to a distant caustic Thanksgiving dinner lol (especially after this mind control crap that Luke can use to beat supposedly powerful rivals without actually lifting a finger anymore.)

Ignoring the escapist argument (to which I am somewhat sympathetic) this is nothing more than schlock filled garbage writing with enuendo reminiscent of Danielle Steel and comic book violence designed to cash in.

Well I for one read this series simply because I started it and hate to not finish things despite the fact that you knew something (bad) was going to happen. People can blame their “need” to end things this way because of the comic books (which once again I don’t mind yet I think tying tens of thousands of pages of text spanning nearly twenty years into a comic book series is foolish) but as has been stated either here or elsewhere I don’t recall; it’s supposedly over a hundred years in the future before these comic book events were supposed to take place.

Han, Leia, Luke, Lando and any other Lucas characters’ grandchildren would be old by then so I don’t buy that argument and even if they wanted to rectify the situation I don’t think they can because as Madman has stated they’ve aptly “painted themselves into a corner” which I’m sure suits Denning just fine as Del Rey’s go to guy.

Well I havent read other star wars books than Timothy Zahn’s books and since I know that Mara will die I wont read others. I know that everybody dies someday, but from what I have heard I dont like the way Mara died. One reason why I wont read other sw books is that there isnt happy end. I mean no “and they lived happy ever after” I know its a clichè, but I still love happy ends. In sw books always comes new sith lord, admiral or something else like that and it seems that defeating emperor and his empire in orginal trilogy hadnt any effect. It made life easier for while, but then new problems came up one after another. Well i guess that is what life is.

Mara is my favourite character in Star wars so I would like to see her death undone, but I know that it wont happen. And then again what i have heard from later books there is quite much what i think that should be undone it would just be too much work.

For me in books most important thing after good plot is good characters. I think that greatest mistake that author can do is kill one of main characters, every character is someones favourite, every character is reason for someone to read next book, because reader wants to know what happens to his/her favourite character next time. When my favourite characters dies I feel like that im not very interested to read what happens in next book so I just take another series to read and hope that in that one my favourite character wont die or if he/she dies I get feeling that it was worth it or something like that.
