Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.
It was a wasted empty death…
Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.
Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.
To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.
Please sign in and together we can be THE FORCE that will bring Mara back.

Well, maybe it WAS at the front, but then they got a lobotomy! That would also explain the overall drop in quality.
But the sad thing is that neither the powers-that-be, nor the general populace of SW fans, seem to even give a crap as to what we want. No, the former are just content to keep mutilating what we all love, and the latter are simply willing to go along with it.
Though for the record, whenever I tell casual SW fans (those that generally follow the movies and that’s pretty much it for them) about the sorry state of the EU, a surprisingly large number agree that it sucks. Many even agree that a rewrite is what’s needed.
But good luck telling THAT to the lobotomized drones working for Del Rey! I’d probably have better luck at becoming the next US President. And I’m not even American!
This hasn’t seen anything for a while. Seriously they need to bring Mara back! And the books for the last few years are utter crap! Not only did the do the injustice of killing Mara, but they wrecked many other characters as well, like the Solo twins and their friends. Jacen should not have killed Mara. He should not have gone dark in the first place! And Jaina has become such a bitch! And all that is just the tip of the iceberg that is sinking the EU.
I would say that the authors and publishers should be ashamed of themselves, but they probably can’t see beyond the money they would be making.
I don’t believe that they are making as much money as they used to. I’ve bought one book since Invincible came out and technically I only have it because I’d prepayed for it. I just don’t believe I’m the only one who was completely turned off by what they did.
I still send emails to all the addresses I could find associated with Delrey or Star Wars but it’s mostly just out of spite now.
Of course people were pissed off by what they did! I’ve hated everything since Vector Prime! But they are probably going to keep going down whatever path they have done because there will always be some dimwits out there who will buy it. And that’s just going to inspire them to keep spewing out this crap.
There are infinite examples out there of people who are trying to “re-invent” things and make them seem cooler, darker, sexier or whatever, and in rare instances this actually works, like the latest Star Trek film. But in the vast majority, these “re-inventions” succeed only in f$%&ing everything up! But the A-holes in charge don’t see that! They only see the dollars signs in their bank account, followed by a number that steadily goes up whether the product succeeds or not.
I really have so little interest in the EU anymore I haven’t a clue what is going on in this newest series (or that Millennium Falcon novel for that matter) but have they actually improved by swapping the authors or no? Taking into account that you could clear the bar set by LotF in street shoes. Sad to think of every EU book up to Invincible sitting on the shelves in the other room but I don’t even know how many new ones or what they are are available now.
They only replaced ONE of the authors. They brought in Christie Golden because Karen Traviss turned down the role so that she could write other stuff. The other two brainless hacks (Allston and Denning) are still there and continuing to totally screw everything up. Don’t even bother with the new crap, Michael. It’s just as bad, if not worse.
For the record, I still pray for an Abrams-esque reboot of the timeline.
Personally I’m not sure about Allston being brainless, I personally found his books to be “better” than the others. Primarily I thought that simply because his seemed to stay more on task than Denning’s outlines or Karen Traviss’ Mandalorian stories which in and of themselves wouldn’t have been terrible if they hadn’t been shoehorned in where they didn’t belong.
Though the long and short of it is that being the best writer in that shameful steaming pile that was LotF is like being the second smartest kid on the short bus. (and I say second smartest because comparing the writting of a LotF contribution would be an insult to the smartest kid on the short bus.)
Mara Jade Skywalker is the most amazing jedi I ever read about. She was one my favorite next to her husband Luke Skywalker. I was shocked to read how she died, though I understood why, but it saddens me so greatly. It’s also annoying how all the main good characters are changed and/or pitted against each other. I don’t like it one bit, though I can’t put the books down.
I liked the Jacen character more but that simply may have been because he was the most interesting younger character (and no I don’t like Ben Skywalker, a pathetic mishmash of Luke “boring” Skywalker and Anakin Solo whom I’ve never really understood people’s obscession with that charater but whatever) That said I really don’t think any character came out ahead in that series, be they dead or character assassinated and frankly I think the EU novels in general would be well rid of everything that happened in LotF.
I second that! Except I would go even further and say that they need to remove NJO as well. I believe it all started circling the drain in that series. I was on the train the other day, and I saw a guy reading ‘Star By Star’. It took every ounce of strength for me to remain seated, lest I go up there, beat the guy up and then burn the offending document!
Sorry, I’m a passionate person when it comes to beliefs. And yes, I did slightly modify my name.
