Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.

It was a wasted empty death…

Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.

Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.

To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.

Please sign in and together we can be THE FORCE that will bring Mara back.

Well I saw it on sale at the Borders closing here and thought about it but just couldn’t do it. Maybe I would read it from the library or something but I dunno. It’s actually disappointing because I’m really tired of Black Library stuff and what not to try and simulate the continuing story.

I’m sorry, were you referring to me? I can’t seem to get the previous comments to come back but no I haven’t bought nor read any Star Wars novels since “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” (Order 66) which I only read because I’d already paid for it through Amazon. After the Legacy of the Force series and that dismal half assed ending Denning shoveled out of a gutter someplace I just can’t get interested in the Star Wars EU at all anymore.

I refuse to buy or read another episode!! They kill off Chewbaca, then Anakin, and now Mara. I’m done with them!!

I understand the reasoning for killing off someone in the NJO, and I can understand why Lucas chose Chewbacca (I don’t like it, but I understand it) and personally I didn’t care that they killed off Anakin since at the time he didn’t have nearly as much of a backstory to speak of as the twins.
I personally was not impressed with how, not to mention why they killed Mara but the last straw was killing Jacen in such a nonsensical and stupid fashion, particularly as to me he was the most interesting “next” generation character after “Traitor.” I was at the bookstore a few days ago and I see there was a new X-Wing novel which was my favorite series overall and I hadn’t any interest in buying it, so I know for sure now that Denning really did kill the EU for me =(

Why do the people at Lucas Licensing, etc. kill off a character, like Mara, who is so popular!? WHY? Does George Lucas just not want Luke to have a wife because of his own personal reasons? It is insanity! I suppose all good things must come to an end, including Star Wars, but more stories can be told involving Mara and a happy ending is called for, as was more than once shown in the movies. I love Star Wars, yet the movies had one main weakness. A lack of strong female characters, such as a love interest/foil for Luke. The novels of Mr. Zahn fixed this very nicely and to the delight of fans like me. Bring Mara back and let Mr. Zahn do it! He started the expanded universe novels, and he should be the one to either continue them or give it one heck of a send-off.

They did it for shock value because DelRey’s licensing deal was due to run out, which meant they wouldn’t be able to do anything past that standalone that was already in the pipe for after the LotF series. At the time there was talk of Lucas Licensing going with someone else, therefore what is the best way to cash in on a lucrative IP? You fill it full of shock, otherwise I somewhat doubt they would have allowed themselves to be painted into a corner, kill popular characters and fill it with Karen Traviss’ Mandalorian obscessed plot holes and to be capped off with a novel that read like an outline.

What do you think the chances are Mara will ever be back as Luke’s wife, and not as a ghost? Its been five freakin’ years. I quit with the SW EU book series during the New Jedi Order (the novel after “Rebirth”) for a while and returned to it only recently. I had no idea what LotF was about and wish I hadn’t read “Sacrifice” last week. It just tore me up!

I didn’t mind the NJO, I think they dragged it out too long but that’s neither here nor there. I don’t believe they will, there will always be people who will buy things simply because it has “Star Wars” on the cover and clearly since the LotF series which had a fair amount of uproar for various reasons as I recall clearly they haven’t fallen below a profit margin they are unwilling to settle with. Not to mention I don’t know how they would write their way out of LotF and I have no idea what they’ve done since then.

The best way to correct this egregious error in judgment is to simply use the force to have her reappear because of any number of reasons from helping Luke combat the dark side of the force to saving Ben from some sort of tragedy. No one has ever explored Obi-Wan Kenobi’s line from Episode IV, “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.” That doesn’t seem to jive with just being a force ghost. I read an article where Lucas said one of his original plot points in ROTJ was to have Obi-Wan return and help Luke against the Emperor. To me, any good writer (if any are around for Del Rey) should have no problem resurrecting Mara Jade. Personally, I feel unfairly treated by LFL. I mean, they bring back a guy like Darth Maul who was sliced in half with a lightsaber through the torso, yet refuse to follow the same courtesy for Mara Jade. In the past, LFL brought back Boba Fett after he fell into the Sarlacc Pit and was digested, and Palpatine somehow reappeared in the Dark Empire comics after he was killed off in ROTJ. Are the people at LFL sexist or something? It is all a bunch of bologna!!

The issue is that Lucas Licensing for the purposes of this EU Canon consider the comic books and novels to be the same. That is why Del Rey was willing to do what they did in LotF in the first place, they took a giant step towards the comic series that was unnecessary. This is what I find contemptable beyond Del Rey’s cheap cash in I find it stupid that some shock filled comic book that gets approved can in the space of two or three pages of actual text can undo tens of thousands of pages of novel text. In my opinion I would simply separate the comics from the novels and just restart everything from the end of the NJO.

That would also work for me. I got to like the NJO series after the first one. The death of Mara Jade really put an end to the novels, at least for me.

Honestly I cared more about Jacen’s character being killed than Mara Jade. Not because I didn’t like the character but simply because chronologically the twins and the “kids” of their age would have been approximately 15 when the NJO started and in their early 20’s by the time it ended. They would have been in their early 30’s by the time the LotF series started. In other words they were already older by this point than is generally understood for the Lucas characters to have been.

It made no sense to me to kill, or character assassinate all of them and of the two “Skywalker” “Solo” line kids that were still alive “Ben” doesn’t do anything for me and Jaina is like an amalgamation of every drama queen chick I’ve ever known.
