It doesn’t seem that long ago that the Year 2000 was the future. HA!
That said the world of 2008 is certainly ‘futuristic’ in comparison to say the world of 1988.
Cellphones are everywhere
The Internet is everywhere
Beyond those two obvious signs of technology has the world of technology changed all that much? Instead of VHS we have Blu-Ray/HD DVD sure..instead of NES we have Nintendo Wii. It is just a case of same radio different song?

In the field of entertainment, you are probably right: there are only so many needs and ways to entertain yourself. But in everything else, it’s a completely different world. Planes that take 500 people at a time, virtual learning environments that let you hand in assignments without going near the school, CERN, and human cloning; when I was eight years old I never imagined these things.
