invincible.jpgWe’ve known since at least November that Jaina would be on the cover of the final book of the Legacy of the Force series.

Now the first images of the actual book cover are available and it looks to us that she’s going to have a showdown with her brother Jacen – Darth Caedus.

That is a confrontation that is – Inevitable – maybe that should’ve been the name of the book. Then again maybe Invincible refers to Jacen/Caedus….

Invincible’s release date is set for May 13, 2008. Amazon is already taking pre-orders on this the final installment of the Legacy of the Force – it’s a hardcover so it’s more dough than the paperbacks. Amazon currently has a neat offer though, they’re starting at 34% off list price and if you pre-order now they’ll give you an extra 5% discount. Sure beat paying full price the day it comes out..but i wonder if they’ll actually ship it to arrive on May 13th..

I’m Back but only for a short time. Darth Chebbis you have had a change of heart since we last spoke and come over to Luke’s side. This Whole series was never about Jacen or Luke but of Jaina and Jag. We all know that the two of them will end up together. It is actually a tribute to Ceadus that jamming him was all that luke could do. The Future is every bit as interesting as the past was as we all know that Luke has to die sometime and that whoever takes HIM out will have to be the most powerful Sith Ever.

Okay, i just recently started goin through the series… my thoughts were that i making Jacen a sith was great, they needed a powerful jedi to become sith, an established character not just some newly created enemy whos been biding their time and suddenly sprowts from nowhere as they usually do. However his turning to the dark side was sloppy, infact it was sloppier than the exlpaination for Anakins turning in Episode III. In the instance of almost one short conversation, with ill thought out logic and bizarre explanations Jacen is swayed to follow the Sith path, but without being dark despite killing an innocent jedi immediately at that point. Further he had already come to terms with his problems and issues with the force during the NJO series, as such he would seem after Luke Skywalker to be the least likely to turn to the dark side. Jaina would have worked alot better.
Probably the best part of this series was its clear political references to current political climates of terrorism, and the loosing of freedoms and rights within supposedly democratic systems. And how those trying to do right can lose sight of true right when they begin to think the result is key, and justify what ever tools you use.
Further the sacrifice issue… Jacen is not an idiot, the whole idea of sacrifice of anothers life, and some how because u care making it your sacrifice is inherently stupid, its clearly a selfish act, and abhorent to anyone trained in the Jedi order.

I could go on and on about the problems with this series, though i would speculate it would be difficult to stand up to the NJO series which might not have helped. Also as people have said the fact they had decided to end it all at the end of 9 books was a mistake, and restricted the writing, especially when the assumption was that they would have to write a juvenile ending where Jacen lost. Why couldnt the series end with the last of the Jedi retreating, with Jacen gathering his forces and taking control, leaving the next series to deal with the new Empire under his control.

I know this is long, but similarly i agree that certain jedi, for the purposes of continuing the saga seemed not powerful enough such as Jaina which made her killing Jacen hard to believe. However when i think about how irritated i am with the sloppy writing that has ruined what had the possibility of being a great series i remember the terrible Han Solo trilogy which seemed to be written for small children and actually gave me a headache due to how poor it was, and how ill written and plotted it was. With stupid characters and boring and over simplified ideas and stories. At least they tried in this one.

Well put Resigned. I felt broken after reading the last book. With so many great possibilities, I felt that Del Ray and there auther, chose the one wrong one. Now what are we suppose to look forward to in this next series? I imagine that we’ll be reading a whole lot of ” why, how could this have happen to Jacen” and ‘ I’m bored, lets see if we can find out where this ship comes from”…..I hate see Invincable on the shelves. It just reminds me not to read another book by these fools again.
