The Seperatist secret weapon – an Ion canon apparently – first looked like a predessecor to the Death Star’s main gun – which is probably is – but I would’ve called it an EMP pulse since its main goal was disruption of all electrical activity.
Still an awesome weapon that leaves no survivors….now why other troopers didn’t figure out that they could leave their escape pods and engage the hunter droids..i dunno..

i think because the normal troopers weren’t prepared or had a basic battle armour becasue the ones with Plo Koon had a different armour and all
or Plo Koon simply saved them by using the force
or the clones were shot by the droids!
