It’s official. Col. Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) takes over command of the Atlantis expedition in Season 4.
Dr. Weir will be removed after either quitting or being fired by the IOC. This isn’t the first time Weir will have been removed from a Stargate command. She was removed from command of the main of SGC too and replaced by none other than O’Neil. (Weir replaced General Hammond).
Finally the military will be in control of Stargate Atlantis and finally the smartest person will be command in stead of a diplomat that has no real scientific or military skills.
Congrats Col. Carter and Welcome to the Pegasus galaxy.

I had heard the Weir would still be a recurring character, more of a consultant role.
I’m looking forward to more Sam/McKay interaction.
I wonder if they’ll ever address the Sam/Jack thing in SGA.
Now if only they’d get rid of Ronin….
I am not really sure why they have done this. It is an interesting move and will sure help fill the avoid that SG1 being cancelled as left. I like Weir, she is a solid character and should really have a place in the show. I really like they should have had JONAS QUINN in Atlantis.
Sam is luring us over to Atlantis with her new command presence and stronger character. When Atlantis first came on it seemed entirely horrific with the wraith as an untouchable shrieking specter. A virus angle makes the wraith at least half human and potential villains; perhaps not evil incarnate but merely curable diseased. The causes of character change and evolving morals create renewed interest and deepening intrigue.
shes got one year left on her sg1 contract so they put her on atlantis.
will she stay on for seasons 5 and on?i hope so.the way i see it is atlantis is sg1’s continuation. the sg1 movies could be in the pegasus galaxy.a joint effort if you will.it would be ten times better than 99% of the scifi originals.
carter is completely in charge so it should be pretty cool to see it.also carter is HOT. between her and mccay and her godlike ideas atlantis maay be fully operational.there is gonna be a room in atlantis where zpms can be made.like the replicators they can make a bunch.also asgard tech will become huge as far as ships and energy sources go.this is a good move.
BUT CMON WHERES THE CONTRACTS FOR SEASON 11?JERICHO CAN GET BROUGHT BACK BUT SG1,THE MAIN RASON SCIFI HAS ANY AUDIENCE IS DONE. BOO TO THE JERKS THAT MADE THAT DECISION.

OH, COME ON! I normally skip over these spoilerific SG:A posts, but why in God’s name are they removing Weir?!? Didn’t Tapping get enough screen time in her 10 years, 200+ episodes of her own show? BALLS to the supposed thing between her and McKay – she’s had her chance and did very well out of SG1. I love Weir, and am NOThappy about her being summarily replaced, nor am I happy about the military being in command of something as precious as Atlantis. A Civilian leader was still able to kick butt when needed but brought a far more democratic approach to exploring this new galaxy – having the military back in command makes this SG1: Season 11. Been there, done it, why go back?
GRR. Still fuming. I bought into Stargate Atlantis because it was a fresh show, that didn’t need you to have watched any of it’s parent, with it’s own cast, it’s own identity and it’s own story to tell.
Now, not content with a water-logged cameo in Season 2, Samantha Carter takes over command??? What’s next? Teal’c setting up a Go’a’uld base in the Pegasus system? O’Neill and the Asgard rushing in to fight the Wraith? Would ST:TNG have been as good as it was if Picard was replaced by Spock for it’s 4th season?
I thought this show had something new to show us: instead we’re getting re-tread for all the cry-babies who don’t want SG1 to finish. At this point it’s touch and go whether I decide to continue with this show.
BSG is much better anyway.
tealc would lead a JAFFA base not goauld. asgard are all dead so maybe just oneill.also weir is weak.hot but weak. carter is hot and deserves to be in charge. the one question i have is where is daniel jackson? the city of the ancients is where he belongs.
I can’t wait to see this, lol.. And also the upcoming movies.
