Mara Jade Skywalker didn’t have to die at the hands of Darth Caedus.
It was a wasted empty death…
Lucas Licensing apparently allowed this disaster to happen and now we should call on them to reverse it. The Sith have the power to bring back the dead and so too then does the Force.
Whether it is Ben or Luke Skywalker or even someone else I don’t care. I just want Mara Jade back.
To that end we here at ShowMeSciFi have started a petition to Bring Back Mara Jade.
Please sign in and together we can be THE FORCE that will bring Mara back.

I think that there are so many fans that just Love the character of Mara Jade Skywalker so much, and for such a variety or good reasons that you’re causing serious problems among your loyal fan base.
The character of Mara Jade Skywalker is seen by many people as both necessary and vital to the on going story line, and the interrelationships of many of the main characters.
I mean you don’t just Kill Off Mara Jade Skywalker like that after 60 plus books that either have her in them or have clear signs of her influence. Not to mention that this should cause the Character of Luke Skywalker to go though some very trying personal times, to the point of either turning to the dark side himself or just plain shut down. I mean if you want people to continue to believe in the character of Luke Skywalker he’s not about to just SHRUG OFF the death of his beloved wife and go on with his day after a little chitchat with a friend, and having Jacen Solo kill her can only Drive a wide wedge even deeper between the Solo-Skywalker clan in the books. Are you guys trying to kill off the Star Wars Story lines, are you getting bored? You’re poisoning your relations with many of you before now loyal readers. Come on guys save face and find an excuse like the FORCE to bring her back.
Has anyone read Rule of Two? I would like to find a blog…. Now, I have been reading the books to do with the Vong war and have been understanding the importance of Mara Jade. I liked here cause she doesn’t like to bullshit around. She just a bad ass lady. I would like to read more about here but, I can’t say that I would like her to reappear in this series of books. I have more to say but, I’m at work. Later.
Mara Jade is one of the best characters ever created for the Star Wars universe and what did Del Rey do…they killed her off. I can’t understand why people feel the need to destroy the best things associated with something. I’ve felt a strong disliking for the direction of the Legacy of the Force series long before this outragous loss of great character for no good reason, but this act of killing off Mara Jade Skywalker has killed my interest in the story completely. I’ve refused to buy any of the books that follow. Knowing I’m not alone in my disappointment and seeing the thoughts shared here and on other online communities should say something to the people responsible for this stupid move. And one thing I’m sick of seeing is the few people who actually liked this say that the old characters are old. Makes me think these people need to watch Logan’s Run and learn from that line of thinking. This is fiction people and it doesn’t have to be realistic to be good. Stop killing off the best characters just to sell books. You people at Del Rey may find that true fans have stopped buying them because you don’t think our opinions matter. Watch sells go down and we may find out who matters.
Now that I’ve vented just a little, I’ll say this Jacen Solo is not an intersting character any more. His rantings are boring and his character has changed so much that I could care less about reading about him any more. The entire Legacy of the Force series is just boring and taking too long. All of the main characters are being misrepresented and some completely underused. I don’t think the authors on this project get the expanded universe. Mara Jade Skywalker was one of the few female characters for women and young girls to live through in the Star Wars galaxy that was worth investing in emotionally and now you killed her off. Stop coming up with lazer brain ideals and stick to what works. I’ll be sure to add this site to my blog about Mara on MySpace.
Attitude….well put.
…Attutude does have a point with Jacen/Caedus as well….I have nevere read a Star Wars novel untill I went to the Celebration in L.A. and was given Betrayal. I was stoked to find out that there would be another Sith Lord and even more happy about the fact that it was someone from Vader leniage. Since then I have also read, starting with Traitor( in order to find out more on Jacen’s accention to Sith Lorddom), more of these novel and have been pleased. It also afforded me the oppertunity to better understand Mara Jade( I understand that I have to go back to the Thrown series to really know the character) and now feel that Mara Jade was a great loss to all who read these books. Look, I just want to be able to look forward to Caedus rule over the galaxy. Just don’t ruin him. Make him stronge and bring about a rule that will make Lord Sidious proud. Bring Mara back in a way that will help you guys at Del Ray keep your oldest most dedicated readers on board.
Attitude,
I was trying to be unemotional about my initial response but you’re right, and maybe I should have voice my opinions a little more passionately.
YOU, KILLED OFF MARA JADE SKYWALKER!
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?
I mean when I first read it I couldn’t really wrap my brain around the concept. I remember talking to a friend of mine (who’s a fan) and saying out loud “you don’t just kill off a character like Mara Jade Skywalker.”
ARE YOU PEOPLE AT DEL REY ALL THINKING IMPAIRED?
Yeah, without Mara everything else looks dead in the expanded universe…another sad story, who cares.
i agree about darth cadeus i persoally have always saw him as a whiney little punk who should have been killed instead of anican but who else could they kill besides mara? luke han and leia are all owned by lucas and jaina and ben i mean lets face it those two are the only hope for the family to keep on going mara was the most reasonable choice of killing someone
Come on how many major fights between a Sith and Jedi have gone on for several one on one battles, ie Obi-wan and Anican/Vader, Luke and Vader, Jedi and Lumiya, and how many others, they could have had him nearly kill her and have her just get away, like Luke and Vader in the Empire Strikes Back (Episode V), but no they had to have Jacen Kill Mara first time out period.
Give me a break, and as far as immortalizing her character for the story line, I think the girl did enough without have to get killed like that.
And if they needed to protect the integrity of the story like they could have had her get away and then fall into a coma without really being able to tell anyone anything. That would still have put Ben in about the same position and sent Luke on a vengeance rampage. But no again they just killed her period. I think the only proper way for either Luke and Mara to die in the book series would have been battling something overwhelming side by side. Call me a romantic but isn’t that what a big part of this is, all epics, epic battles against evil, and epic love stories.
The only part of the story that I’m looking forward to now is watching Jaina become the Sword and kick the crap out of her brother, after that Star Wars is dead to me.
They’ve ruined it, and as far as needing main characters to kill, well we’ve heard very little out of Lando and his wife in how many books.
while I know they have little to do with the jedi, they are important characters and Lando has been around for a long time in the E.U. book series, not to mention good friends with the whole Solo/Skywalker clan. Who’s to say that either Luke or Leia don’t have any more kids to take the torch forward and save the family honor so to speak, and that’s even if they killed off Ben and/or Jaina.
But no they had to kill what I’ve been finding is one of the most beloved E.U. series main characters(Mara). Is it just me on this chain of thought here?
Please folks lets here your thoughts on this one.
You are right, they ruined it – the EU is dead like I already stated in my post somewhere above. LOTF is the death blow – nothing can ever be same. There will never be carefree and faithful relations between the Skywalker/Solo-Clan again. Everyone of them bears too much guilt and far too much sorrow. Everybody lost someone in some way. How I miss those old days when the EU was innocent and easy…
Everything after the thrawn duology was – how can I say it – unpleasant. I remember staying away from the new Jedi order because of fearing the worst for Mara already back then, with her being so sick and weak. I actually started reading it long after the last book was out and I could be sure that my favourite characters made it through alive. Right now I’am already halfway through and I won’t finish it.I don’t feel the need anymore, now that I know about the bitter and unhappy ending.
Then we have dark nest: Do I really need to say something about it?
Next: Legacy of the Force, which started really interesting (that’s the reason why I went back to the NJO – to get the background – not that NJO is one of the best series ever) and turned out as such a disappointment. And come on: Another Skywalker/Solo turned Sith? That’s pretty lame…. How many times are they going to sell us the same story again?
okay, I’m honest, I don’t really care for Jaina, Cadeus Ben or anyone at all. The only one of the Solo-kids who hadn’t been an annoying brat was Anakin, and look what happened to him. Ben is still a newbie and a stranger to me and he is definately not important enough for me to hang on, because I don’t feel connected to his character. So there is no reason for me to continue buying those books. I haven’t read Fury and I won’t read the rest of Legacy. Luke and Mara always were my favourites. Now one of them is dead and the other one remains broken, in pain and despair. So that’s it for me. It might be realistic, but is that really what we like to see? If I want realistic and depressing stuff, I turn on the news.
