Sure Wesley Crusher was a bit of a weenie on Star Trek TNG but Wil Wheaton is a cool geek.

He’s also very honest and he’s issued one of the most shocking critiscims of J.J Abrams and his reinvention of Star Trek with Star Trek XI. On his blog Wheaton wrote:

Speaking as a lifelong geek, my knee-jerk reaction when I hear someone talking about “reinventing” something like Trek is that it will be a tower of suck, built out of an endless supply of Jar-Jars and midichlorians.

.. not entirely sure how I feel about the “reinventing.” At least the people who totally fucked Star Trek up aren’t involved, but why does anyone need to “reinvent” Star Trek at all? There’s a good reason it managed to endure through four decades and several generations of Trekkies and casual viewers alike.

Read the full post yourself and let’s all get some money together and get Wil Wheaton to write/direct Star Trek XII : Captain Crusher’s Revenge!

I saw Star Trek. It was terrible.

I was entertained by this movie, but it was not Star Trek. Vulcans do not want to acknowledge emotion. Kirk’s defeat of the Kobayashi-Maru scenario was too cavalier. Uhuru doesn’t “go” with Spock. The abandonment of Logic that is encouraged seems to be an endorsement of the peanut gallery in congress and the white house. “hope, change.” There is no deep philosophical quandary like the next generation. Little compelling character development, beyond young Kirk. To long time star trek fans this should seem like a sell out to the ‘hopeful” contemporary ideology.

Oh and there were a lot of ranks given for the one mission…

Where do I begin? I just saw this so called “Star Trek” movie. Will the real Trekkies (Like myself) stand up and protest this abomination?! Not knocking the effects and cast; All Ok. The story line is so “Been there–done that–“. How long are you gonna play this “going back in time” idea. It was done in Star Trek 4( Voyage Home) and done again in Star Trek “First Contact”. They should have relabeled the title “Star Trek– WE RAN OUT OF IDEAS AND MONEY SO WE THOUGHT YOU’D LIKE THIS”. There are so many inconsistencies I lost track. When did Uhura have a relationship with Spock? Did I miss that original episode? Star Trek gave people a sense of inspiration and hope for the future. This movie said to me after it thankfully ended–“Ha–we used the Star Trek name to bring you in and take your money. Watch Transformers and GI JOE so that we can kick you in the balls again?! This movie took Gene Roddenberry’s storyline and %$^*#$ all over it!!! They can’t even get the theme music right. Oh yeah, they finally play the original theme music after everyone is getting up and leaving the movie theater…DISGUSTING and DISAPPOINTING!! And what is up with Leonard Nemoy’s Cameo? Is this suppose to be an apology to the real Trekkies in the theater to tell them–“Hey we’re sorry we made a bad movie, but here’s someone that you know to make it all better…” Hollywood strikes again—Recreating and reinventing something that needs none of either. Lots of potential to make a really good movie.

This movie not only insults trekkies and viewer alike, but it also defys physics. If Spock was able to save Romulus and collapse the star, the planet surface would freeze in absolute zero from there being no energy source and would almost instantly kill all the Romulans. But in this case apperently J. J. Abrams 1 – Thermodynamics 0.

Thank goodness I am not the only one who thought this movie was a pile of crap. I should have known because everything JJ Abrams does is loaf. What is all the hype around JJ Abrams anyway? I feel like such a sucker, he got me again. First, he got me with Alias which turned to crap; then, he got me with Lost which also turned to crap and now this…

I won’t even go into details about how stupid this movie was. The honest critics have already said it and the people who can think for themselves know it sucked big time. Can I get that two hours of my life back…???

Star Trek XI was garbage. I honestly wanted to walk out 30 minutes in, but stayed because I paid good money and because I couldn’t rightfully complain about what a galaxy sized abomination it was unless I did see it reel to reel.
I honestly feel sorry for those Trekkies and Trekkers that are so hungry for Trek product (any product) that they gladly sing the praises of this waste of film, which no doubt would have Gene spinning in his grave if he rested within one.
Thank God I have all my old Trek paperbacks and DVDs. I have a feeling it’s going to be one long, very cold winter for true Trek fans everywhere.

This movie made me BOLDLY GO… GO VOMIT AND SH*T my HEART OUT…

IT SUCKED KLINGON DONKEY BALLS!!!

If you come from the future and your PAST has been Changed… HOW DO REMEMBER your ORIGINAL TIME-LINE HISTORY!?!? A lot of HOLES.. BLACK HOLES and A**HOLES! My dead mother could have wrote a better script..

WHY DO THEY STILL USE PARACHUTES? BECAUSE ITS IN THE SCRIPT AND IT LOOKS COOL…

ABRAHMS… GO SLIT YOUR WRIST in a TUB of WARM WATER!

BAAAARRRFFFFFFF!!!!

the movie is shit agree on that… but it is´n like back to the future. When time is changed a new timeline is created… it does not erase the future. We saw in many episodes the mirror caracters and ships… so with that in mind the bastards can do any shit they like… hell they might even bring back f*king x-men. They can say it is a more violent universe… it would be cooler to see a movie in the original mirror universe. Startrek 11 is not startrek is for mindless starwars fans all over the world.

much hate on this movie. I thought it was great. Plot holes yes but it was actually exciting in way the latest trek films and tv shows haven’t been. Not every plot has to center around a technobable or philosophy. Sometimes blowing sh*t up is fun. No mater what you think of the story or direction I think the acting was great Zach made a awesome spock and the SFX top notch.

James Spock's avatar James Spock - October 23, 2009

It was just a brainless action movie, science is all wrong, dosen’t feel like I was watching StarTrek, (More like Star Wars)

Vader Trek's avatar 8. Vader Trek - December 13, 2009

I must say I absolutely loved the movie. J.J. Abrams really revolutionalized Star Trek… he eliminated the need for Star Ships, for a more efficient way of transportation: Beaming. From a modernist view I think its great.. ships becoming obsolete and being replaced with mordern technology. Imagine in Voyagers time during the new time line…. just imagine how many planets away you ll be able to beam 2….

Furthermore he added what Star Trek was missing… the Star Wars element.. you now have the little aliens… Scotty’s friend… it is the Jawa… and then you got the skinny aliens… those that sing in the movies…you know the background aliens… Go J.J.

Lol. Either Vader Trek’s post is in jest, or it is a perfect example of why this movie sucks. It was made for people who really do think like this.

Tom Baker's avatar 10. Tom Baker - February 10, 2010

It was not Star Trek the way I wanted and perhaps it will be better in Star Trek IV, but it was a better sci fi movie than has been put out by studios of late.

eber3's avatar eber3 - February 10, 2010

It was a horrible scifi movie. All it really was was a fast paced action based summer blockbuster. It was Independence Day without as good of a story, acting, etc. Difference being ID didn’t have to destroy a true scifi classic in order to put its garbage on screen.
