Sure Wesley Crusher was a bit of a weenie on Star Trek TNG but Wil Wheaton is a cool geek.

He’s also very honest and he’s issued one of the most shocking critiscims of J.J Abrams and his reinvention of Star Trek with Star Trek XI. On his blog Wheaton wrote:

Speaking as a lifelong geek, my knee-jerk reaction when I hear someone talking about “reinventing” something like Trek is that it will be a tower of suck, built out of an endless supply of Jar-Jars and midichlorians.

.. not entirely sure how I feel about the “reinventing.” At least the people who totally fucked Star Trek up aren’t involved, but why does anyone need to “reinvent” Star Trek at all? There’s a good reason it managed to endure through four decades and several generations of Trekkies and casual viewers alike.

Read the full post yourself and let’s all get some money together and get Wil Wheaton to write/direct Star Trek XII : Captain Crusher’s Revenge!

What has this abomination to do with Star Trek anyway? just labelling any action movie set in the future “Trek” doesn’t do the trick. I just watched the movie for the first time – procrastinating because I thought it would be bad… but it was worse. Skip canon, skip continuity, skip the visionary background that has made Trek what it was… Great job.
Do what feels right or some such crap is the message? Thanks a lot. When I watched Star Trek, it was “Use your brains, reason is a good thing”. And that’s without discussing the annoying intro – pathos, drama, babys. Urgh. The abundance of promotions and commissions given out to cadets… timeline and continuity mistakes… The Vulcan Science Academy builds an armed vessel? Oh come on, anyone remember the USS Intrepid? Did I miss the Vulcans going on the warpath? There’s basically no end to reasons why this movie called Star Trek is a moderately funny action movie – but absolute crap when considered by Trek-Standards.

Hi,

I just watched this too (well, halfway through it so far). I didn’t watch when it came out coz I knew it might suck. I was right. Glad I didn’t waste money on this thing (the DVD I’m watching is from the local library…FREE of Charge). JJ “Retard” Abrams completely dumbed down Star Trek into just another summer blockbuster to appeal to the mass of young moviegoers who just like to watch cool ‘splosions’ n boobies and don’t give crap about a good plot. The “science” in “science fiction” is gone. Gone is Roddenberry’s vision. I mean a supernova that threatens the “entire galaxy”? Hello? And that particular line spoken by legendary science officer Spock himself? Uh Hello? A total insult to INTELLIGENT trekkies and intelligent moviegoers in general. Ripping off the iceworld scene from Star Wars? WTF? JJ RETARD Abrams ruined this movie. Oh I know it made money coz of the fancy flashy (but shallow and meaningless) action scenes and ‘splotions’ and the baring of young and hot Uhura & Orion flesh. Thats all that seems to matter to today’s moviegoing generation…just blow sh#t up and show some skin. Total Disappointment!
