At last weekends’ Celebration Event in LA new details emerged about the highly anticipated next gen Lucas Arts Game The Force Unleashed. The game is set for a November release and falls in between Episodes III and IV with the player being Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice hunting down Jedi.

Lucas has put up a new documentary that goes above and beyond what was detailed at Celebration – check it out below…No its not KOTOR – but it could be something even better.

Won He Has.

So apparently voters prefer the Light Side to the Dark Side. Yoda has emerged victorious in the USPSjedimaster.com Star Wars stamp contest winning over the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader. Yoda had been leading for much of the past month so his victory isn’t a surprise.

The contest first kicked off in March and was teased out with R2D2 mailboxes that still are on street corners across America.

So what does Yoda win??

A stand alone sheet of stamps. Not that it’s really a big deal the United States Postal Service is already selling all of the Star Wars stamps in one big sheet at post offices across the U.S.

Star Wars Rebellion Issue #6 – Is this title back or is Dark Horse frakking with us? May 29, 2007

Dark Horse has done a MAJOR dis-service to its readers by crippling the Dark Times and the Rebellion series with inconsistent releases and titles that just seems to come out without any schedule.

Dark Times is back on schedule now and apparently so is Rebellion.

Issue # 6 is the first to come out in MONTHS and is a new story arc following the events of the Trade Paperback.

Yes it’s a cool story, but I’m hesitant to invest any emotional capital into this series until I see issues come out every month in a consistent fashion.

Perhaps the saddest part of Rebellion for the fools that run this title at Dark Horse is because this title has come out so irregularly they had to send out preview copies to a few ‘select’ individual in order to solicit them for letters to the editor.

Dark Horse is doing an excellent job with Legacy, beyond that in this 30th anniversary year of Star Wars the comic book publisher is shaming the franchise with inconsistent titles and with at least one MAJOR FLOP (Knights of The Old Republic).

Hopefully this new issue of Rebellion is the start of a comeback for Dark Horse, and if not I hope that Lucas Licensing is out there watching and considering moving Star Wars comics to another more reliable publisher.

Star Wars Clone Wars – The NEW Animated Series Trailer!! May 28, 2007

The first animated clone wars series was ‘cartoony’ to say the least..though i don’t know anyone that didn’t like the stylized Yoda.

Lucas is kicking it up a notch with a full 3D NEW animated Clone Wars series. The trailer is now up and it looks freakin AWESOME.

How much this show will diverge from the first animated series is unknown and it’s story arc is also unknown at this time.

The new StarWars.com site is now up and i’m not sure if i like it or not.

Certainly the last StarWars.com site was heavy on the comic book style – This new site is more closely aligned with the Star Wars universe of the LucasArts gaming world.

It’s great to see Chad Vader getting his due up front and center – though on the usability side of things the new site’s main navigation isn’t nearly as fluid as a flash navigation should be.

I wasn’t expecting to get Star Wars Legacy of the Force Sacrifice until tomorrow (May 29th) but actually got a copy today May 28th! HURRAY!

Yes we all know the basic spoilers already.

That said Exile was an awesome book and there is alot of ground to cover in Sacrifice.

Expect to see a few less posts on ShowMeSciFi in the coming days as I dedicate every spare moment to reading this.

Star Wars Legacy # 12 – Vong are the saviors of the Jedi? May 28, 2007

I seem to remember the Jedi helping to chase the Vong out of the galaxy..true Jacen Solo (now Darth Caedus) did have a thing for the world brain on Coruscant though..

Now apparently the Vong are the keepers of the Jedi legacy.

In any case Star Wars Legacy issue #12 is yet another awesome issue in a series that just doesn’t disappoint. We learn a bit more about Cade, but alot about the Vong and their interaction with the Jedi in this issue.

The only ‘dumb’ thing is Cade deciding to go to Coruscant at the end of the issue – of course he’s going to get captured by Krayt – what kind of plot setup is that? i mean COME ON. Unless of course Krayt is really Cade’s uncle/ancestor and he’s using some Force trick to call him to Corsucant.

In any case a great issue – and i’m looking forward to issue #13.

*OHHH and before i forget. R2D2?! REally? After all these years R2D2 IS BACK!! (wonder when we’ll see C3PO?)

30 years ago our world changed..dramatically.

It wasn’t that long ago was it? It couldn’t have been that far away…

BUT IT WAS.

I remember very well the first time i saw Star Wars in 1977. I remember wondering how they managed to get camera’s into outer space to film the sequences.

Beyond any shadow of a doubt Star Wars is the greatest film of all time. It introduces us to The Force
Jedi
Sith
Darth Vader
Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo (and yes HAN SHOT FIRST!).

Did Star Wars re-invigorate SciFi?? Of course it did. Without Star Wars, Star Trek The Movie never would have happened, there wouldn’t have been Battlestar Galactica or Buck Rodgers (tv version) either or even the Flash Gordon movie. SciFi would have remained a niche play, incapable of truly being mainstream.

Star Wars proved that SciFi – good scifi that looked real is something that everyone wants. SciFi wasn’t just for geeks anymore but became part of mainstream culture in a way that no other SciFi movie ever had done before.

Thank you Mr. Lucas and Happy 30th Anniversary. May The Force Be With You

Star Trek The Experience – An old ride in Vegas that need an overhaul May 24, 2007

I found myself in Las Vegas this week and when in Vegas I always visit The Star Trek Experience.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with it, it’s essentially a Star Trek theme ride attraction inside of the Las Vegas Hilton. The highlight are a pair of simulations Borg 4D and Klingon encounter.

The first time you go on either of the simulators is an AWESOME experience – problems is it’s the same simulators year after year and they have haven’t changed in the last 4 years at least. Nothing wrong with that but it would be neat if there could be some kind of refresh maybe even just on the graphic simulations which were state of the art at one time but now appear to somewhat dated.

When visiting the Star Trek Experience you’ve got to visit Garak’s store – they always have something on sale – this year its Klingon Bobble heads – only $9.99..

Flash Gordon – Will the new Series be a ‘re-imagining?’ May 23, 2007

There are few who would argue that SciFi’s new version of Battlestar Galactica is not a dramatic departure from the original show. With the new Flash Gordon series though SciFi is going to attempt to remake a character that has been around for over 70 years.

It’s not clear however how much will change though.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Eric Johnson who plays Flash said:

There’s definitely certain changes. It’s not like we’re portraying Flash in the 1930s. When Flash first came out, he was an internationally renowned polo player, which probably wouldn’t be appropriate now. He’s been football players, and NBA stars, and swimmers I think, so now he’s a marathon winner and just much more of a regular guy.

Frankly i don’t care that he’s a regular guy. I’d like to see the equivalent of Cylons being human or Starbuck being a female.

The interview makes both Johnson and the Flash Gordon show appear to be a very very lame attempt at a basic modernization of Flash Gordon. If that is indeed the case i suspect that Flash Gordon’s SciFi run will be very short.

To add further insult to injury Johnson doesn’t appear to know the first thing about excites SciFi fans.

I think it’s going to appeal to a lot of people. It’s been amazing, in my initial experiences talking about the show, how many men in their 40s into their 60s just light up when you mention Flash Gordon. And I don’t think there’s a 13-year-old boy in the world who isn’t going to think this is the coolest show ever. Frickin’ ray guns! How cool is that?

Ray guns cool? holy crap. A combination lightsaber/buzz saw/grenade launcher like what the Rock carries in Doom is cool.

If you really want to be depressed read the full interview on EW.

Not a bad episode at all. There have been a few episodes over the years where SG-1 is mistaken for bad guys in a first contact situation but this is one of the better attempts.

What was clearly missing though was whether or not this planet had been visited or ruled by the Gould at one point…i wonder…

but i guess the Orii are on the way…

Star Wars: Resurrecting the Sith Lords. KOTOR III In the Making? May 17, 2007

The Knights Of The Old Republic Return

Though KOTOR II is an excellent game, many gamers say that it feels rushed and incomplete. Indeed, it was discovered as early as 2005 that a lot of material designed for the end of the title was deleted. Additionally, it was discovered that certain character development scenes were left out, and some characters were even cut altogether. An intrepid band of fans have discovered the missing pieces that were not included in the final production version of KOTOR II, and slowly but surely, they’re making those hidden chapters and pieces available.

The effort is officially called The Sith Lords Restoration Project (TSLRP), and its goal is to add back in as much of the cut content as is possible.

No this is not KOTOR III but hey in the absense of that next game (rumored to be announced on May24th) Sith Lords Restoration may well be the next best thing.

KOTOR and KOTOR II are the two best Star Wars games of all time..Sith Lords Restoration truly is the missing link.

NASA has just posted a video titled ‘Search for Spocks Home’ on the JPL site.

According to Star Trek canon Vulcan is located orbitting the star we know as 40 Eridani A.

Guess what?

It’s real and NASA’s got a plan to find out what’s out there.

But is it logical?

and will life, Live Long & Prosper there?

wow.

Great episode..not an entirely new idea for SciFi but definitely a new idea for Atlantis.
Funny too.

McKay vs Sheppard in a Pegasus galaxy REAL version of Age of Empires (or maybe Sid Meyer Civilization?).

Atlantis is digging deeper than ever into the SciFi well to deal with interesting plot lines and themes that go beyond the simple – let’s kill some wraith episodes.

Young Roland Deschain seems willing to put his friends in deadly danger by staying in Hambry when his relationship with the beautiful Susan Delgado deepens. Meanwhile, the evil Marten Broadcloak’s agents-a.k.a. the Big Coffin Hunters-are zeroing in for the kill on Roland and his ka-tet

Though still visually glorious this issue is the weakest of the set so far. That shouldn’t be too surprising though since issue #3 was so awesome.
It’s difficult to put your finger on what makes a series like this work or not other than to say that certain issues just ‘grab’ you more than others. This issue was basic plot developments nothing too crazy and no overly dramatic scenes that really stick out.
Sure it’s still a fine read..but hey across a seven issue set we can’t expect every issue to be spectacular can we?

NBC’s Journeyman set to travel through time May 15, 2007

Remember Quantum Leap? Looks like NBC has a weird take on it coming up soon in a new show called Journeyman.

According to NBC’s description it's a drama about a dude who finds himself with the uncontrollable power to travel through time. It stars Kevin McKidd, (who played Lucius Vorenus on HBO’s Rome), and it is somewhat difficult to describe.

I loved Quantum Leap and was sad to see it go (but it was time in the end)..it’ll be interesting to see how NBC shapes this Journeyman show together.

So let’s look at a clip shall we??

Gotta hand it to NBC they sure know how to cast for a SciFi show. They’ve just released some initial footage from the new Bionic Woman show..one of the clips has Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica’s Starbuck) fighting The Bionic Woman Jamie Sommers. Katee Sackhoff is set to guest star in a re-imagining of the 1970s show.

Guess Starbuck (Sackhoff) really is a fembot! (aka Cylon!!)

I guess Lindsay Wagner is too old…

Former Eastenders actress Michelle Ryan is set to become the Bionic Woman (Jamie Sommers) in the upcoming series.

This is the same Bionic Woman show in which

Battlestar Galactica actress Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) will play Sarah, an evil bionic woman and nemesis to Sommers (The Bionic Woman).

Still no word yet on if the Bionic Man – The 6 Million Dollar Man (Steve Austin) will also be remade.

All-Out War as the Galactica and her Viper’s do battle with the Cylons and their Raiders as Adama has ordered the virus released against the Cylon Empire! But, all doesn’t go as planned for Starbuck as he finds himself left behind on the Cylon world!

Another solid issue in a real solid storyline.

Starbuck getting stuck behind isn’t anything particularly inventive but he was just about to propose to Cassie so that kinda adds a twist to the whole thing. Only one issue to go and then this series is done.
Will all the cylons turn into reptiles and Will Galactica make it to Earth?

Just a few more weeks and then we’ll all find out.

FINALLY.

Cade Skywalker returns and with him one of the best Legacy stories in a while (not that the issue 10 wasn’t great..but this one was over the top). Oh and the incomparable art of Jan Duursema returns too…

VADER.

Mara Jade.

THE FREAKIN VONG!!!

They all make an appearance in this issue that finally sees Cade return to the Jedi, to Ossus and to his destiny. His former bounty hunter pals get captured by Krayt’s empire too so the threads of this story are rapidly converging..as Cade seeks his Jedi heritage and the rest of universe is out looking for Cade.

What’s the deal with the Vong?

Will they side with the Jedi and/or Emperor Fel to overturn the Sith? Are they out to destroy the Jedi? the Imperial Remnant on Bastion?? Who knows?!? All I know is that it adds another dimension to an already wickedly cool comic book storyline.

Awesome story..AWESOME ART that is beyond compare. Legacy continues to impress and exceed all expectations.

AND only 4 more issues until the truth is revealed about who Darth Krayt really is.
