Paul McGillion, perhaps best known for his role as Dr. Carson Beckett on Stargate Atantis will be in Star Trek XI.
No it’s not a big part.
But yes he’s in the movie and apparently is in a scence with Capt. Pike.
Too bad he didn’t land the job of McCoy!
Star Wars Legacy of the Force Fury – Review December 13, 2007

Star Wars Legacy of the Force Fury has a furious pace. From end to end the characters are engaged in battle, some larger than others.
This isn’t the best book in the series but it is in the top two. The conflict/civil war continues to be very confusing all around and this book doesn’t simplify the conflict much.
In terms of plot it ends a few plot lines : Centerpoint and Alema Rar. It also closes the loop on the secrecy of Allanna which is neat.
But the book is still space opera..with dozens of loose ends..which is of course why there are still more books to follow.
The double life of Caedus/Solo continues to be annoying…he’s the only one that knows he’s a ‘real’ Sith..and the real ‘Sith’ for some reason continue to remain in the shadows. I hope we’ll see more of the Korriban Sith sooner rather than later.
Overall 3.5 out of five stars for this latest book in the Star Wars Legacy saga.
Star Wars and Harry Potter – The Force is With Hogwarts? December 12, 2007

There is a really neat discussion over at StarWars.com contrasting Star Wars and Harry Potter.
While i understand how you could draw comparisons….Luke the son of a dark lord and Harry with the dark lord…young kids..
It’s still a massive stretch
The Force isn’t magic…though it may seem magical. It’s all about midichlorians.
We find out about Luke’s DAD early on..and Luke’s only schooling is on Dagobah.
That said Harry Potter does have its place and I can certainly see why someone would want to show where Potter draws influences from Star Wars.

No, the dumb a$$es that run the studios and the TV networks haven’t come to their senses.
The geniuses at Dark Horse comic on the other hand have…
There’s plenty of reason for the Browncoats to look forward to 2008. Dark Horse has a whole lot of Serenity coming down the pipeline! First and foremost is the new Serenity comics series that is due out in March. This three-issue series, Serenity: Better Days, is a step back in time to the early years of the Firefly crew, and the fledgling gang’s turbulent attempts to cope with success after they pull off their first successful heist. It features the same creative team as Those Left Behind, with the story by Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews, art by Will Conrad, and Adam Hughes providing all three covers this time.
Those Left Behind was a great comic series and a must read prequel for the Serenity movie.
Considering the Joss Whedon himself is on this..how could this fail? Especially as a comic? That said…why just a mini-series and not a full series?? Surely there are enough browncoat loving Firefly fans to support a monthly book right!?

“Oh Crap…”
In a season when every episode has been great, this episode of Stargate Atlantis was stellar. Replicator grown version of the key Atlantis members? O.k that’s interesting.
A replicator civil war? huh that’s neat.
The return of Dr. Weir? Cool..
Massive replicator fleet? wowza
We’ve got so many moving parts here..it’s a vastly more complex tapestry then Stargate SG-1 ever had in its years of battle with Ga’ould. The big question in this whole episode however…where was Col. Carter? If there is one disappointment in season 4 so far it’s the low profile Carter has had overall.
I can hardly wait the 4 weeks till the next episode

Back in September was the last time we saw anything like this auction..it’s a lot of 5 Star Trek playmates ships.
* Deep Space Nine
* USS Voyager NCC-74656
* Romulan War Bird aka Bird of Prey
* USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D
* USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E
The September lot ended up selling for $122.50…it’ll be interesting to see where this ends up. What it does represent for the Star Trek toy collector is a great opportunity to get a bunch of ships in one auction.
Check out the auction yourself: Lot of 5 Star Trek ship bidding started at only $9.
**UPDATED** Bidding closed on this at $88.01. WOW what a deal! The seller didn’t get nearly what they should have on this and the buyer did EXTREMELY well.
Futurama Bender’s Big Score – It’s real SciFi (kinda) December 7, 2007

Sure sure Futurama is a cartoon..and it’s funny and insolent.
But i just finished watching the new movie – Bender’s Big Score – and guess what? It’s actually really solid plot wise with a really intricate time travel plot thread that really works.
Time and time paradox have always been a part of Futurama but never in such an intricate and well thought out way.
The comical – doom meter – which measures how likely something bad is going to happen – is a campy – but fun way to explain away the paradox of time travel and multiple instances of person.
Instead of wiping another person from existence or multiple timelines/parallel universes – the doom paradox is simple. Because the paradox person should never have existed they have a higher doom quotient and thus are more likely to have doom hit them and so the universe will fall back into order.
Yeaaah i know the problem is still the causality of it all. Since the new paradox person will impact the timeline in a way that the old timeline hadn’t been impacted..even if doom hits that person.
Still…
Futurama Bender’s Big Score isn’t just funny (and it’s VERY FUNNY) it’s actually interesting SciFi too.

All the trailers we’ve seen so far make Star Wars The Force Unleashed look awesome.
Now apparently the game is also coming for the Nokia N-Gauge system..and the trailer is…well..it’s somewhat less the awesome.
The sound sucks the game play choppy and effects are weak. Hopefully that’s just problems with Nokia and not the game itself.

Not a great issue, but not bad either.
The plot moves along as Zayne avoids death (again) at the hands of one of the guilty Jedi who actually did kill padawans. It wasn’t a particularly strong scene in this issue, but it worked.
Really that’s the best way to sum this issue up – it works to move along the plot. This whole arc on Taris winds up next issue so all the characters need to be in their proper positions…and that’s where they’re going…
And perhaps from a wider perspective, the introduction of Cassus Fett as a strong Mando’ade is key here…we all know that eventually Fett will become the Mandalore and generations that follow with the Fett name will carry the title too…(like Boba Fett in Legacy of the Force).

So we finally get to see Rodney McKay’s sister again (hurray).
A basic plotline in this story..but the real driver is the fact that it will further the overall Season 4 plot dramatically. The Wraith have now been to Earth and they have figured out how to fix the nanite base code..big news.
Jeanie (Rodney’s sister) has nanites in her (now inert)…that were reprogrammed by the Wraith.
Certainly they won’t stay dormant forever..and i can already see the future episode where those nanites serve to bring Jeanie back to Pegasus.
All told a solid episode.

It’s still over a year away from release, but Terminator 4 already has its leader.
Christian (Dark Knight) Bale is set to play John Conner…
Terminator 4 is supposed to be all about John Conner and his battle against Skynet.
No word yet on whether or not his dad – Kyle Reese – will play a pivotal role..but you’d have to expect that he will..no word yet on who might play Reese…and also no word on whether or not the Governator will make a cameo

The first Knight Rider car (KITT) was of course a Pontiac Firebird …you remember the early 80’s one with the pop up lights!
The new Knight Rider for the re-imagined series?
Well it’s not a Firebird (they don’t make them anymore)
It’s not one of the new Camaro’s (that actually debuted in Transformers)
It’s actually the Firebird/Camaro’s mortal enemy
Yup it’s a MUSTANG.

For over 70 years, children young and old have seen The Wizard of Oz.
This weekend SciFi is taking a new angle on the timeless classic with Tin Man..and to be honest so far it doesn’t look like it’s fit for children at all…(and that’s fine by me).
Instead of calling it Oz…they call it the ‘O’ Z. It’s darker..and Kansas isn’t something out of 50’s.
The Wizard is Richard Dreyfuss and instead of being a midget he’s just a nutcase. Instead of Dorothy – we get DG. Instead of a literal Tin Man we get an Android type and instead of an evil ugly wicked witch..we get a gorgeous witch (still wicked though).
And it sure doesn’t look like a musical either.
I suppose that you could argue that the Technicolor version of Wizard of Oz was too ‘happy’ and didn’t stick to the original novel..then again that was the golden era of hollywood and the Wizard of Oz is one of its gold gems.
Will Tin Man be a classic? Not likely..70 years of history is difficult to compete against…but hey it sure does look to be entertaining…It’s on this weekend on SciFi no word yet on when a DVD version will be stores.

We’re still many months away from the official release of Star Wars The Force Unleashed…but it looks like the people at Lego have already got the jump.
They’ve already got a version of Vader’s ship from the new game – called Rogue Shadow (any relation to Rogue Squadron??)
It looks like a halfway ship between Anakin’s JediStar Fighter in Episode III and Vader’s Advanced Tie from Episode IV.
Hard to tell sometimes with Lego..but clearly this is a ship built for speed.
I guess when you’re Vader you don’t have as much need for shields…(or do you?).

Bender’s Big Score! a 90 minute direct-to-DVD film is now out! Apparently it will be cut up into the first four episodes of the new season in 2008.
Finally after years of reruns…new Futurama…has there ever been a better cartoon SciFi show?
Jetsons? no way. Star Trek animated ..naaaw..Star Wars clone wars (not bad..but Futurama is funny!).
If you’re a SciFi fan and you’ve got a sense of humor…how could you not like Futurama?
Ohhhh and while I STRONGLY recommend buying the whole DVD..here’s a 4 minute taste that takes aim, “at the brainless drones” that cancelled Futurama in the first place. Just brilliant.

It’s here! And I got mine!!!!
Since this is the last Legacy of the Force book until 2008, I’ll likely take a couple of weeks to enjoy this one and will post a review (as always) when done.
Apparently this book is doing real well already…my local bookseller sold out of them.. but had put one aside for me.
Is Legacy of the Force the best Star Wars series ever? Well so far so GREAT…and now I’m off to read Fury…..
