Looks like SciFi is rounding out the cast for the new Stargate Universe series set to debut later this year.

Phillips is Col. Telford, a proud lifelong military man, who puts his faith in the chain of command. Stubbornly confident, he’s highly regarded by his superiors. He is the chosen leader of the ill-fated expedition.

Ming-Na is Camile Wray, a human resources executive with the international oversight committee that governs the Stargate program. Now the highest-ranking member of that division left stranded on the ship, she carries herself with a misguided sense of superiority over the other military and civilian survivors.

The two new additions help to round out the cast that was announced last month for Stargate Universe.

A single issue stand alone story?

Really? Yup that what this issue of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is – a standalone. A whole story in one issue no need for another..and it’s pretty decent.

Sure it’s a basic – ship lost in space then found the only survivor is the killer story – but it’s still kinda fun..

What makes this one particularly interesting is the art. At first I thought it a little weird – it’s more of a sketch style – but it does grow on you and it does give this one off story a really cool feel.

Only question left after this issue is the same one we’ve been asking for a the three – which is What’s Up with Jarael? She’s got some kind of funky power, force sensitive stuff but what is it?

Dollhouse – Firefly’s Doctor is Alpha February 23, 2009

dollhouse

ShowMeSciFi.com reader ‘Josh’ knows who Alpha is – it’s
Sean Maher – the actor who played Doctor Simon Tam in Joss Whedon’s Firefly (and Serenity).

No we haven’t see Maher yet in the series though he is officially set to be among Dollhouse’s cast.

It would be a delicious irony – given that we know Alpha cut up his victims with surgical precision (and Dr Tam was a surgeon).

Cool.

Odd Girl Out – Quadrail – by Timothy Zahn REVIEW February 23, 2009

Odd Girl Out is the third book in the Quadrail series (so far) it follows The Third Lynx and Night Train to Rigel.

We thoroughly enjoyed this book which takes a dramatic new spin on the central conflict in this series – between the master of the spider and the evil coral based Modhri.

The basic layout of the book from a plot perspective is very similiar to the previous two books – but that’s what makes it work so well. There is a murder of some sort and then off onto the Quadrail to figure out what’s going on. Along the way a few twists, a few deaths and a whole lot of speculation by Frank Compton on what is actually happening.

And again the final revelation of what is going on came as a total surprise to us (the readers) though somehow Compton had it all figured out.

Another brilliant romp on the Quadrail and we’re already looking forward to the next book!

And a few great lines along the way including a Doctor Who Dalek-like EXTERMINATE EXTERMINATE!

Battlestar Galactica Season 5 episode 6 (SciFi calls this season 4 episode 16 Deadlock
) Hera is the savior of both the human and cylon races.

There is no other.

We’ve been guessing for years that Hera would be the savior and now there is little doubt that is the way it will be.

No this episode did not have the stunning revelations of the last episode – No Exit – but we do have some stunning developments.

Finally Baltar is relevant again – and for the first time in YEARS he has Caprica in his head again! Baltar was one of our favorite characters in the first three seasons – then he became less interesting – but now as the show winds down HE’S BACK.

Will the cylon goop end up busting Galactica? I sure think so…

Will the Cylon’s jump away? Not likely but before the end the other Cylons will jump back in for a massive battle royale the likes of which we have never seen.

Where cylons fight cylons and humans.

terminatorUmmm WTF was that episode about? Desert Cantos

Could this show get any more useless/pathetic?

Sure it’s great to have parallel plot lines but thing just don’t add up at all here the warehouse in the desert business is just …well what is it? Then there is the H/K flying prototype thing – which was kinda cool but how come none of our cast of character said a word???

Why didn’t the HK kill them?

If you missed the episode you can get it here (Desert Cantos
) but fair warning if you want to try and understand you really need to watch it more than once…that is if you care to watch it at all.

Dollhouse – Agent Paul Ballard is Alpha February 21, 2009

dollhouseSecond episode of Dollhouse The Target
wasn’t nearly as good as the first and good be the beginning of the end of the series as far as we’re concerned.

We know now what Alpha is – some kind of dollhouse ‘echo’ that went wrong and is out on the rampage.

An easy ‘early’ guess by us is that FBI Agent Paul Ballard (played by Tahmoh Penikett the actor who was Helo on Battlestar Galactica) is actually Alpha.

Anyone want to take that bet?

As for the show – this episode was confusing and disjointed making it difficult to follow and less entertaining than its true potential –

We don’t have a problem with showing different time-lines as it were but the back and forth shifting was far to abrupt and confusing which will no doubt alienate mainstream TV viewers and shorten the life of this series.

Don’t forget Fox is the network that cancelled Joss Whedon’s Firefly after all.

That sure was an interesting episode – now we know that Sam isn’t insane and that there are other time travellers just like him.

That’s a major revelation.

But what was the postcard all about ? Somewhere over the rainbow? And now people are ‘talking’ to him…Was the councilman supposed to die in order to go back to the future?

Why is it not Sam’s time now?

And how does this all relate to Project Aries?

Here’s a theory Project Aries has taken a whole bunch of people from 2008/2009 ..

The last episode of BSG is a two hour special set to air on March 20th at 9 pm.

If you’re a REAL fan the show will actually start at 8 pm with a replay of the March 13th episode – so you could get 3 hrs in for a full FINALE.

What will happen? I don’t know for sure but here’s my speculation.

1) BSG 75 – the old Battlestar Galactica itself will be destroyed…all those hole in her will just peel things apart.

2) We will finally learn what Kara Thrace is- which is the first human/cylon hybrid conceived by Ellen and Daniel (the #7) and/or Saul. So Kara is their baby.

3) Adama will go down with his ship and Roslyn will be at his side.

4) There will be one less GREAT FRAKKIN SHOW TO WATCH and all of us will miss the show forever after.

SO SAY WE ALL

(oh and hey if you’ve missed episode – they won’t all be out on DVD for months but if you haven’t seen the new episodes you can pick them up on Amazon now too Battlestar Galactica season 5 aka season 4.5

In Battlestar Galactica Season 5 episode 5
No Exit
(SciFi officially calls this Season 4.5 episode 15) we got a new intro to the show that is just frakkin awesome in 90 second it provides the best explanation of what has happened in the show thus far…

Our full review of the No Exit episode touches on the plot of this awesome episode – but the intro deserves its own special mention…enjoy.

Battlestar Galactica Season 5 Episode 5 No Exit – There is another Cylon model February 14, 2009

This has all happened before and it will happen again.

We got more insight into the Cylon in this one episode than we’ve had in the previous 4.5 years!!

Sure we knew Ellen Tigh was the Fifth but we didn’t know that the final five were actually the FRAKKIN creators of the hybrid human cylons! wow did not see that coming.

Between Eillen and John filling us in and Anders remembering on the other side – we get a near final picture.

And there is another.. An 11th cylon model – technically number 7 called Daniel.

This is what we here at ShowMeSciFi.com predicted last year – the FINAL FINAL Cylon is Daniel Graystone set to played by actor Eric Stolz in the upcoming Caprica prequel. How’s that for bringing things full circle!?

Sure we still don’t know what Kara Thrace is..

and we don’t know where Eillen went – likely her ‘research colony’ – but with five episode left we’re finally researching an ultimate conclusion that should be mind frakkin awesome…

and who want to bet that Galactica itself won’t survive?
(oh and John ‘I’m a PC’ Hodgeman lobotomized Anders – should’ve got a Mac to do the job !)

First episode of Dollhouse finally!! woohoo..

Started off a little slow but it sure did pick up about 10 minutes in. The personality imprinting idea shows tremendous possibilities on so many levels.

Each actor could be anyone and those ‘anyones’ have their own histories.

Now what’s up with Helo (the actor who played Helo on Battlestar Galactica) ? Is he the guy behind Project Alpha?

Who was the person watching the videos at the end of the show?

Lots to speculate on and hey this is only the first show!

Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor – Are you afraid of the Dark? February 12, 2009

shadowsofmindor Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor is a strange book.

Instead of being a simple battle between Sith and Jedi, author Matthew Stover bring in this new concept of The Dark.

what is the Dark? Apparently it’s not the Force but the Force can beat it…it also makes for some really convoluted plot that made this book confusing in its worst parts and downright boring in others.

Aside from the Dark – the basic premise of the book – that being an investigation into Skywalker’s actions – was totally lost except for the first and the last chapter. This is a shame. The plot structure could have been much better with a true investigation ..perhaps a retelling of the story from multiple viewpoints..

instead what do we have? who is the narrative voice? We don’t know..it’s just a confused muddled mess and a disappointing narrative.

 Another great episode…
Really made us think has Sam been abducted by aliens and then sent back into the past?
Just like the RocketGirl theory?

Maybe, maybe not…we’ll have to see.

ON the baseline 70’s plot though neat that his relationship with Gene’s daughter is expanding…

but don’t you think he’ll end up with Annie?

Isn’t Annie the key to him returning to the future?

wonderwoman1Finally a new Wonder Woman …this time it’s part of DC’s direct to DVD animation jobs…but it sure looks sharp.

Kerri Russell is the lead and in the stuff we’ve seen she’s awesome.

Firefly’s Captain Mal -Nathan Fillion plays the voice of Col. Steve Trevor and funnyman Oliver Platt plays Hades.

No it’s not the live action Wonder Woman we’ve been hearing about for years – but it’s the next best thing.

fringe So Mr. Jones survived the teleporter but now he’s something..

Unimaginable

What is that all about what did he become?

and how did Olivia actually shut off the lights? Was it a trick or is she now a part of the Pattern?

We don’t know and that’s just fine. It’s the fact that this show keeps us guessing throwing us some weird curves..but not too weird such that a normal human can’t follow along.

Though the full season 1 isn’t yet out on DVD (it’s a new show after all) Amazon has all the episodes avail now so you can catch up if you want ..get your Fringe episodes..
