Star Wars Dawn of the Jedi Force Storm – Is Xesh Really Evil? Great series… September 25, 2012

Ok we’ve finally finished ready the first five issues of the next great Star Wars story – Dawn of the Jedi.

The first five issues make up the ‘Force Storm’ story arc and yeah it’s mostly about the ‘storm’ that happens on Typhon when the Force Hound Xesh lands.

Xesh is an interesting character and to be honest, he’s the only one that really resonated with us through the first five issues. There are just too many characters in this series to keep track off, and hey Xesh is central and he’s the bad guy (think Vader).

At the end of issue five, he’s taken to Bodan – some kind of place on Typhon where bad guys can mediate on the light sight of the force…

Since in this era of the Jeedai (no typo – – no Jedi yet!) there are no Sith yet either…well not unless you count the Jeedai journeyman that is a pureblood sith but not Sith in the dark side of the force sense…

Anyways good fun, interesting read as a series. NO this doesn’t compare to John Ostrander last mega masterpiece – Star Wars Legacy (not even close), but it’s still an enjoyable plot line and one that we’re looking forward to reading about for at least another 45(?) issues.

Judge Dredd 3D 2012 FAILS at the Box Office. Makes only $6.3 million in its opening weekend September 24, 2012

On Friday the new Dredd movie opened and we wondered if it would eclipse the 1995 Stallone version of Judge Dredd.
THAT ISN’T GOING TO HAPPEN.

Dredd opened with an Epic Fail that would make the Megacity 1 bad guys laugh at how pathetic the LAW man’s movie is.

At only $6.3 million in its opening weekend Dredd 2012 is a major disappointment and it’s also likely the end of Dredd on the big screen.

Dredd failed because so many people figured it’s just another reboot of a movie that wasn’t that great to begin with. Doing reboots often fail – yet Hollywood continues to try…

Star Wars Errant Knight Escape #4. Odion Takes the Helm. AWESOME issue September 24, 2012

Yeaah we know we’re a little behind on our comic review (but we’re catching up!!).

Knight Errant: Escape #4 is good solid fun.

Odion – the Sith we all love to hate is at his worst, making ppl kill each other, taunting Kerra and oh yeah – now wearing an ancient sith weapon of great power on his head too.

We also finally see more of Kerra’s parents – in a holorecording…

It’s clear that they no longer live…but there is another…

a brother?

a sister?

we’ll likely find out in the in the final issue coming up.

we’ll also see if Kerra finds her way out of the Odionate and what Damian will do to her…if he catches up to her that is..!

NBC’s Revolution. Why We’re Not Watching It Now September 24, 2012

Yeaah we watched Revolution last week…and sure we started to watch a bit of it tonight.

BUT NO MORE.
You can telegraph the plot of this show a mile away. It’s useless, pedantic, pulp entertainment and we’re not going to waste our time.

I mean seriously how does the Munroe Republic make any sense? The gov’t totally collapses in such a short period of time? the rule of law no longer works as it should?

anyways..we’ll keep an eye out and likely catch up on this show with iTunes (Revolution, Season 1 – Revolution) AT some point if NBC doesn’t kill this show first.

Strange how a show like this is barely watchable when there are commercials in it, but cut those out and get the ability to watch a few back to back and maybe…just maybe this show won’t look as thoughtless in the aggregate as it does in the particular.

Star Wars Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison Series Finale : AWESOME September 23, 2012

The final issue of Ghost Prison was a really great read. We knew that Vader would return to Coruscant with the Emperor and sure we knew that Gentis would get his arse kicked. We just didn’t know how.
Amazing twist with the Vader teaming up with Moff Tarkin (and hey isn’t he a Vader rivaL too?)

Great story overall – was fun to see how Vader dealt with the Ghost Prisoner in the end…perhaps a bit brutal and merciless but hey ..that’s Vader!!

Doctor Who Season 7: A Town Called Mercy REVIEW September 23, 2012

OK we’re a little behind on Doctor Who Season 7, but thanks to iTunes we’ve just caught up on a few episode. With episode 3 – A Town Called Mercy – we knew from the trailer that we’d see ‘The Gunslinger’ a futuristic cyborg killer. We knew it would be a Western Theme too.

All Good.

As always an awesome Doctor Who Matt Smith twist too – with the monster — not really being a monster.

the only thing we didn’t care for was the lack of screen time for the Ponds. Both Amy and Rory really got short changed..but we know that in coming episode this season..the Ponds will get more than their fair share.

Will Dredd 2012 Make More Money than Stallone’s Judge Dredd? September 21, 2012

20120921-234839.jpg

Dredd 2012 opens tonight and it sure looks to be a whole lot better than Stallone’s Dredd back in1995.

Judge Dredd 1995 made just over $113 million worldwide. No doubt alot of that was due to a wide release and the name recognition that Stallone brought to the movie’s release.

With Dredd 2012, ticket prices are significantly higher than they were in 1995, nearly double when you consider the cost of 3D. Will it break the Stallone record?

We think it won’t, not in the original release at least. There is a lot of other decent competition in the the movies this week and next which will impact Dredd. Then again, Dredd could kick ass after all – he is the law..

so what do you think?

Only one title that we’re really looking forward to this week.

Star Wars Ghost Prison #5 – This series is almost done…we’ve now got the ‘ghosts’ from Anakin’s past imprisonment on Vader’s side, the Emperor is on the mend..all that remains if for Vader and the Empire loyalist to retake Coruscant…

So far this has been an interesting series. We see Vader on the run, we get a bit of Anakin back story..and we see another side to the young days of the Empire…

an empire that sees the Emperor for what he is and aims to replace him…

Star Wars Detours Set to Debut in 2013. Star Wars goes ‘stand up’ (comedy) September 19, 2012

ok we all love Robot Chicken and sure love the Family Guy Star Wars parodies too..but how about a Lucasfilm Animation developed and produced parody…series?
Yeaah it really is happening…and it’s set to debut in 2013.

Star Wars Detours™ is an animated comedy that explores what daily life is like in a galaxy far, far away. There are no Empires striking back or attacking clones here. Instead, Star Wars Detours focuses on the universe’s regular folks and their everyday problems… which, to be fair, do frequently involve famous bounty hunters, crazed Ewoks, and even a Dark Lord of the Sith.

So far there is the main trailer – which is absolutely hilarious and there are now 6 additional clips too…

Ok – we knew this was coming (and yeah we have the Dark Horse comic waiting to be read too) and sure we’ve been a little behind on the Clone Wars animated series lately too…

but wow.

this new trailer for a special director’s cut of the Return of Darth Maul (Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season Four) sends goosebumps down all Sith spawn loving spines. Maul was the only good thing in the prequels and now he’s back and oh yeah he faces Obi-Wan Kenobi too (the dude that chopped him in two).

Brilliant stuff and yet another reason why we’ll be spending the next few weeks catching up on the great show that is Star Wars The Clone Wars.

Set to debut on September 26 at 8:00 p.m.on the Cartoon Network – this looks like good fun…and unlike many of the Star Wars Lego games – this isn’t a silent adventure…oh no we’ve got fully voiced Lego minifigs here..

Check out Lego Darth Maul and his six-sided Light saber….AWESOME…

Judgement at Proteus. The final Quadrail Novel is the worst one? WTF Happened to the Modhri? September 18, 2012

Judgment at Proteus (Quadrail) is a book we have been looking forward to for some time.

It’s the fifth book in Timothy Zahn’s innovative Quadrail series. Previous to this we have reviewed the Domino Pattern (back in 2010, so this has been a two year wait..) and no the wait was not worthwhile.

We weren’t huge fans of Domino Pattern, though we were big fans of the previous three books: Odd Girl Out, The Third Lynx and Night Train to Rigel. The Quadrail series set out an innovative view of the future, where rail-like travel extends throughout the universe, run by a shadowy group (Spiders/Chawyn) that is fighting an even shadier group of bad guys (modhri).

And at the top of the story is our protagonist and narrator, Frank Compton.
Judgement at Proteus has two parts, the bits on Proteus and then ‘everything else’. The challenges that Compton faces at Proteus are interesting, but taking up half the book was a bit drawn out. The second half of the book makes up for it with awesome pacing, a half dozen Quadrail stations and the Shonkra-Laa attacking at every turn.

And that’s the problem. Compton defeats them every time. It’s just dumb. Only in the end does he kinda/sorta get captured only to be saved by [SPOILER ALERT..}

…..

the modhri.

Yes that was an interesting twist, but the path to get there was brutal (for us the readers). The modhri kill his own polyps so the hosts can attack the Shonkra-laa. and someone they are able to kill them all.

Really.

It just didn’t add up for us and left with a sour taste. It would have been much more interesting to see some kind of double cross, or some other kind of interesting Shonkra-la battle, but no such thing occurred.

The final ‘battle’ really kinda felt like it ended on a whimper. With little detail after we suffered through so much in the front half. Though we waiting two years for this book, it really felt like the ending was rushed.

Yes, we did see many of our ‘old’ friends from previous books – which was a ‘nice’ touch too.

Considering that apparently this is the final Quadrail book, it really is kinda disappointing the way this whole thing ended (and of course we want more…). The Chawyn end up as the ‘bad guys’ and we still really know so very little about them…how bout a book on them? Or more on the halkans/jurians or…?
In any event – we remain fans of the Quadrail, of Frank Compton and of author Timothy Zahn. We just know he can do (much) better.

Owning a gun in the Munroe Republic is a hanging offense…so go hang yourself. Easily the best line in JJ Abrams new show.

Or how about the former Gooogle guy.. 8 million in the bank and i,d trade it all for a roll of Charmin.

The insurance adjuster…he,s a mean dude.

So is this show any good? It looks like yet, another post apocalypse show..not sure it has the legs to last though

Star Trek NX:01 with William Shatner? It Could have happened… September 13, 2012

Long time readers of ShowMeSciFi.com know that we have no love lost for the Star Trek Enterprise show.

It wasn’t a good show (for the most part, though it did have some great moments). The Mirror Universe episode of course was awesome as was the cameo when Cmrd Riker (J.Frakes) came on board too. There could have been one other cameo that would have given that show another awesome moment.

William Shatner making an appearance as Capt Kirk. Wouldn’t that have made sense in the Mirror Universe episode? Especially since they capture the NCC-1701 from the future, which should have been Kirk’s ship?
According to Brannon Braga – it could have happened.

He tells this tale in a recent interview:

The only crossover that was exciting was there was a brief time when we were going to put Captain Kirk on Enterprise, and we even met with William Shatner, but it just never happened. We had some story concocted about why Kirk was there and how he got there. I don’t remember. I think Shatner had a pitch. It was actually going to be a pretty cool two-part episode. I don’t know exactly what happened. It might have been that we couldn’t make a deal with Shatner or something like that.

Doctor Who has no shortage of enemies..bad guys like the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Master (remember him?)…

and no new Doctor – Matt Smith – will face an Arnie Schwartzenegger like Terminator, decked out in Westworld type western firefly garb…

sure looks like great fun…the episode airs this Sat on the BBC.

Star Wars Lost Tribe of the Sith : Sprial #2 is out this week too.

Having set sail on a prisoner vessel to uncharted territories, a rebel and a stowaway princess find themselves in a losing battle with their crewmates against a society of strange self-proclaimed exiles. When they are taken in by the exiles, new opportunities for power within the civilization pique their interest. The rebel recklessly takes the first opening to go after a guarded weapon he believes could upend the entire tribe of Sith!

Sounds like good fun to us…

Ok we’ve got a name for Star Trek 2 (reboot). No it’s not the Wrath of Khan, thought he original Star Trek II remains the best of all Trek films.

The name is

Star Trek Into Darkness.

Let’s all hope that the Darkness include some Klingons this time…the release version of Star Trek was missing them…

At this point, all of the principal photgraphy for Star Trek Into Darkness has been completed and the film is in Post Production.

Star Trek Into Darkness is set to be released on May 17, 2013.

Yeaah we know that Planet 51 was out in the theatre a couple years ago, but we never got around to watching it, till last night.

That’s the magic of Netflix, somehow that movie surfaced into our ‘Top 10’ so we figured..why not?

it’s an interesting spin on the Alien Invasion theme, nothing too heavy, a few laughs and an ok way to spend an hour or so. It’s not a cult classic and not likely something we’ll ever watch more than once though….

the good people at Google lov Star Trek.

Today for the 46th anniversary of Trek the doodle was an interactive Google Logo of the bridge of the classic enterprise. By clicking through different clickable areas eventually you to a spot where your security guy shoots a Gorn.

After killing the Gorn you get this page:
