Apparently there is a Tripping the Rift Movie — or at least there is a trailer for one. We haven’t written about Tripping the Rift much here on ShowMeSciFi.com. It’s a quirky show and you know what? We LIKE IT.
CHODE – the captain..and no we don’t know what species he is…is hiliarous
Darth Bobbo and the dark clowns are awesome
And SIX? WELL that’s the gratuitous part.
Unfortunately the trailer for the movie is not that great…but trust us..the show typically is.

I dunno. Dark Times isn’t bad..but without Wheatley’s art this series isn’t great either.
So we’ve got some kind of double cross here and our two plot lines are coming together.
Not particularly memorable stuff..but it does move the plot along. If you’re not already into this series don’t start here, wait till Vector hits it in a few months.

BIG BIG BIG BIG NEWS FROM LUCAS!!
The new Star Wars Clone Wars animated series will first be a FEATURE FILM that will hit theaters on Friday August 15th!! (let the lineups for the midnight showings begin!!!)
We’ve been writing about the new Star Wars Clone Wars for months…always thinking that it would just be a new TV series on the Cartoon Network so this news comes as a very very NICE SURPRISE.
“I felt there were a lot more Star Wars stories left to tell,” said George Lucas, executive producer of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in a statement. “I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward.”
Then in the fall the TV series itself will start with apparently some 30 episodes already in the can. It also looks like Anakin’s new apprentice Ahsoka Tano. will play a major role too.
Are we excited? YOU BET WE ARE!

This is the story arc that we had been waiting for ever since Legacy first hit the stand and boy did it deliver.
Cade face to face with Darth Krayt (whose identity is finally revealed) as the last Skywalker decides whether or not he will follow Vader to the Dark side.
Finally his friends come to the rescue and for the first time in more than 6 issues, Cade is back on the Mynock.
WOW.
All this time though we have been missing out on the other goings on in the new Legacy universe…so while this story arc has been one of the most impressive Star Wars storylines of all time…we’re eager for a bit of a break..and see what everyone else is up too…

Kyle Reese had a brother.
NEAT.
Sarah gets back together with her former boyfriend the medic.
VERY NEAT.
Sarah does the pullup thing that Linda Hamilton did so very effectively in T2 (while in the mental facility) – that wasn’t so cool. Lena Headey just isn’t as buff.
Summer Glau’s Terminator continues her cardboard performance..though she at least had a funny line in this episode. Sarah calls shotgun (for the front of the jeep) and Cameron call ‘9 millimeter’.
All told a solid episode though that will help to add even more plot complexity to this show.

Darth Bane the Rule of Two is easily the best Star Wars book we’ve read all year (mind you we’re only 5 weeks into 2008 at this point).
Drew Karpyshyn continues the tale he began in Darth Bane Path of Destruction . Whereas the first book had some basis in well known Star Wars canon and Dark Horse comic books – this book really carves out some very new and unkown territory.
Karpyshyn is a gifted writer and his prose is smooth – leading to an incredibly satisfying page turning experience. Bane is still the dark brooding Sith lord as always, but now we get insight into his apprentice Darth Zannah.
As opposed to most other Star Wars tales where the Jedi are the heroes — here the Sith are the ‘heroes’. The Jedi are seen as weak. Their lightsaber skills inferior. Their command of the Force – incomplete.
The final confrontation in the end of this book (without giving away too much) is AWESOME. But also dissapointing in some ways too. At some points in the story we get the story told from the Jedi point of view. But when it comes to the final battle – it’s very one sided — in more ways than one.
The first book Darth Bane Path of Destruction is still a superior book to this one – the plot in that book is richer, the Sith more complete and Darth Bane’s transformation is among the best Star Wars tales ever told…as such this book Rule of Two had a tough act to follow.
That said..Rule of Two is a MUST READ for all Star Wars fans. It expands the expanded universe in a critical era and most importantly…it’s a great read.

Basic cliched Stargate episode where the team is trapped and they need to get out.
Where the cliches break down though is with Dr. Keller (Jewel Staite).
She’s one BUSY woman…
First she hooks up with Ronon know she’s interested in McKay.
Who’s next??
Lots of Loose Star Trek Action Figures February 8, 2008

‘Lots’ of Star Trek Action Figures (nice pun isn’t it?)
We’re always looking for innovative ways to acquire Star Trek toys. If you actually want to play with the toys (as opposed to just displaying them) – you really need to buy loose figures. They’re usually cheaper and you won’t have to crack open a box to play with them or display them on their own. Buying ‘lots’ is the best way to buy cause you get a bunch of figures at the same time (usually at a lower price than buying figures individually)
This weekend there are a few internet Lots of Loose Star Trek action figures. Here are the interesting ones:
34 figures from Playmates’ Star Trek & Star Trek: The Next Generation line. wow.Bidding only started at $5.99 BUT i figure this one will end up a whole lot higher.
Star Trek TOS & TNG Loose Figure Lot (34 FIGURES!)
#
Here’s another one for 15 figures in a mix lot of classic and Next Generation figures. This one also started off at $5.
I would also expect that this one will end up a little higher than $5 but we’ll see. An interesting mix of figures for sure.
1992 LOT STAR TREK LOOSE FIGURES
#
Some sellers are starting their loose lots at a higher $$ value. This seller is selling only 8 figures but is starting their auction at $15.
lot of 8 Star Trek Action Figures

There always seem to a bunch of loose star trek lots..though quality and pricing (as always) vary from week to week. We’ve created a few simple links to help you (and ourselves too) out for finding this stuff:

ShowMeSciFi.com is excited as any website out there for the upcoming Star Trek XI movie. That’s why we signed up for the Star Trek XI webmaster program from Paramount – the general idea was that for each click you generate, Paramount would tally them up and do something nice for you.
After just a few short weeks – Paramount HAS CANCELED THE POINTS PROGRAM.
Q: What happened to the points system?
A: Due to click fraud and to make use of the Webmaster Program easier on users we have eliminated this points system. Nothing else relating to the program has changed. Please just point all links to the official site. If you have questions please direct them to us in the forums.
Click fraud? are you kidding me?? Other webmasters are that desperate??? Paramount is so incapable that they can’t properly measure clicks? KHAAAAAAAAN!

HAT an aweful krifing show…and finally its first dismal season is coming to an end.
Of course we’re talking about Flash Gordon – easily the worst show on SciFi today and of one of the worst SciFi insults ever.
In the beginning we were very optimistic about this show, but it sucked early on and has continues to suck ever since never really improving at all.
Let’s hope that there won’t be a season 2 for Flash Gordon…

Let’s face it – alot of fan fiction is puke. But what happens when that ‘fan-fiction’ is actually a failed proposal for an unproduced episode of Firefly?
SHEER BRILLIANCE.
That’s what Steven Brust’s Firefly book “My Own Kind of Freedom” is – brilliant. Burst originally wrote the book as a proposal for a Firefly tie-in back in 2005.
Beyond being a great read – it’s free.

After many delays, NASA finally got Atlantis off the ground today.
Atlantis wasn’t travelling alone either. With this mission NASA is finally getting back to actually building out the Space Station — instead of just visiting it.
On board STS-122 is the European Space Agency’s Columbus laboratory.
“Today we are opening a new chapter for ESA,” said Jean-Jacques Dordain, the European Space Agency director general. “Just as Columbus discovered the New World, with Columbus, we are discovering a whole new world.”
The Shuttle doesn’t dock with the Space Station until Saturday..but is should be an exciting event when the new module is actually attached to the station.
Star Trek XI : Plot Revealed? February 7, 2008

Star Trek XI bad guy Eric Bana has given away the plot of Star Trek XI – sorta/kinda/not really.
In an interview with Celebrity Truth Bana reportedly described the plot of Star XI thusly:
“You’ve got this ship right? And it’s flying through the air, like, really fast. It lands, and these dudes get out.
“Then there’s these other dudes, some of them have ears, some of them haven’t, and they get into a bit of a fight. There’s heaps of bullets flying and one of the ships has trouble taking off. Then they fix that ship and then there’s a couple of other guys flying around..” Bana pauses before asking, “Is this good? Then this other guy turns up and he’s had some problems with his missus…”
So apparently Star Trek XI is going to be a comedy then…..

StarWars.com has done a marvelous job of keeping the fans updated on the latest about Star Wars : The Force Unleashed.
It looks like LucasArts has opening up more info to Vanity Fair too with a whole bunch of screen shots that no one has seen before.
Since the shots are so slick, it’s tough to tell if they’re actual gameplay – though i expect that it is at this point as opposed to conceptual artwork though there is some of that there to be sure too.
Also to be sure is that Star Wars The Force Unleashed is getting the full FORCE of Lucas’ awesome marketing machine.

MADNESS.
Total and absolute MADNESS. Robert Picard the bald holographic doctor from Star Trek Voyager is set to become the expedition lead for Stargate Atlantis in Season 5. The move follows Amanda Tapping (Col. Samantha Sheppard)’s departure at the end of the current Season 4.
Having Woolsey in command will be a constant pain for everyone on Atlantis…
While I don’t mind him in the odd episode – in command of Atlantis itself???
MADNESSS!!!
Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles 1×4 Golem February 4, 2008

The concept of the Golem of Prague is an ancient and well known story.
The way the writers brilliantly wove that ancient tale’s basic premise into this episode, gives me great hope that this series has a fantastic writing team behind it (#hope they settle the strike soon!!#).
Then again, episode 1×3 was officially called ‘The Turk’ which is of course another ‘old’ story that the writers were able to weave in…I wonder how many more they were able to find…
Again we’ve got what looks to be a recurring theme with various ‘others’ coming from the future – in his case yet another Terminator – to do something in the past that will help the outcome in the future.
The continuing theme with the FBI agent that is overlooked and ‘laughed at’ is a bit cliched but hey it does serve its purpose.
Then of course there is John.
John Connor the great Savior of humanity – no longer interested in running – but interested in making a difference now. Brilliant.
Summer Glau’s ‘Cameron’ Terminator is still just a cardboard cutout..and it would be really great to see her Terminator evolve into something more animated as this series continues.

Neat episode that introduces us to a trio of new characters that I expect we’ll see more off in Stargate Atlantis.
We meet Sheppard’s Ex-Wife – now working for DHS.
We meet Sheppard’s Brother – and it looks like we’ll see him again too.
Then there is the new IOA dude that will make a very welcome change over Robert Picardo’s whining character.
Ohhh and then there is the fact that we finally got a whole of insight into Col.Sheppard’s personal life.

We’ve known since at least November that Jaina would be on the cover of the final book of the Legacy of the Force series.
Now the first images of the actual book cover are available and it looks to us that she’s going to have a showdown with her brother Jacen – Darth Caedus.
That is a confrontation that is – Inevitable – maybe that should’ve been the name of the book. Then again maybe Invincible refers to Jacen/Caedus….
Invincible’s release date is set for May 13, 2008. Amazon is already taking pre-orders on this the final installment of the Legacy of the Force – it’s a hardcover so it’s more dough than the paperbacks. Amazon currently has a neat offer though, they’re starting at 34% off list price and if you pre-order now they’ll give you an extra 5% discount. Sure beat paying full price the day it comes out..but i wonder if they’ll actually ship it to arrive on May 13th..
Col. Carter Leaving Stargate Atlantis for Sanctuary February 1, 2008

We really haven’t seen that much of Carter in Stargate Atlantis Season 4. She’s not much of a hands on commander and she lacks the presence that made Dr. Weir such a compelling character.
Now it turns out that Amanda Tapping (the actress who plays Col. Carter) is set to devote more of her time to the new Sanctuary SciFi series. Apparently she may make some ‘guest’ appearances in Season 5 of Stargate Atlantis.
Will we miss Col.Carter??
I don’t think so. She’s really been a non-factor in Season 4. The braniac role that she filled in SG-1 still belongs to Dr.McKay.
