Massively Multiplayer online games all require some kind of PC based installation media right?
NOT ANYMORE – the upcoming Battlestar Galactica MMO will be browser based leveraging the Unity engine which uses the open source Mono project for some online .NET goodness.
A browser based game is an amazing feat – it means that it will be more accessible than any other comparable MMO – AND might well be able to bridge the Linux/Windows/Mac gap and run everywhere.
“We are very excited to demonstrate to our friends in the media attending E3 Expo that Bigpoint and our partners at NBCU and Syfy are intent on creating a compelling gameplay experience that is available to anyone with a browser worldwide without a huge download,” explains Heiko Hubertz, CEO and founder of Bigpoint in a statement. “Battlestar Galactica Online will be an accessible, story-driven experience that will be executed to the highest level of quality for the browser-based platform. It’s our most ambitious project ever and we want fans of the show to know that we are committed to delivering.
As for the game itself – trailers always look awesome – so whether this game is any good remains to be seen.
Serenity – Float Out – Isn’t the send-off Wash deserves June 14, 2010

We love Serenity/Firefly here as much as anyone — and sure Wash has always been one of our favs too.
Which is why we thought that Serentiy Float Out – mostly sucked.
Previous Dark Horse Serenity comics have been awesome – but not this one.
Context is lacking from the very beginning so we don’t really know what’s going on, the artwork is weak and oh yeah….
There isn’t a whole lot of Wash is there?
The only redeeming quality is the final page…
Apparently Wash will be a Daddy (posthumously.)

Stargate Universe – Is TJ Dead? Season 1 cliffhanger June 12, 2010

Incursion Part 2 the Season 1 cliffhanger for Stargate Universe was a DUMB episode wasn’t it?
Why didn’t Young storm the gateroom? WTF?
Why would he surrender control? so Rush could MAYBE get it back? Just seems dumb.
And TJ dead? What’s up with that? Most likely she’s lost the baby – but hopefully she’ll be back for season 2.
No this isn’t as good a cliffhanger in some respects as the mid-season one when Rush was left behind — but he got back pretty easily didn’t he?
In this case — someone will die. that we know. What will also likely happen is the Lutians will stay on board the ship too, creating another dynamic.
But let’s all keep our fingers crossed that the Lutians find their way to putting poor Chloe out of her misery….for Eli’s sake.

WOW. KRIFFING WOW.
So much action and plot in this issue, it’s nearly impossible to think of anything to say other than..
WOW.
Cade is one serious Sith hunting machine now – he is the ultimate sith/jedi hybrid and we doubt there is any force in the universe that can stop him now.
The princess FINALLY makes her return appearance (she has been so underutilized in this series..)
And the biggest surprise on the last page of this issue…the man that created the new Sith isn’t dead after all…then again did anyone of us really think he wouldn’t return??
Star Wars Invasion Rescues #1 – taking the fight to the Vong June 8, 2010

We didn’t care all that much for Star Wars Invasion when it first came out.
So now Dark Horse has come back with this series – renumbering it to #1 – should be #5…but it’s actually…
KINDA GOOD.
We’ve got some kick but females in command of a Vong cruiser causing havok.
We’ve got a traitor waiting to be discovered..and we’ve got a Jedi in training that doesn’t listen to Luke and Luke doesn’t mind that much.
It all makes for good fun, a decent read and solid artwork to match.
Doctor Who Vampires of Venice are Fish Aliens June 8, 2010

The Vampires of Venice was an interesting ‘concept’ episode.
First off we’ve got the Doctor bringing Ms. Pond’s future husband back from his own time for a special date — wearing the shirt from his own stag party – nice.
But then they end up investigating Vampires that aren’t really vampires but really — YET AGAIN — displaced Aliens that have sought refuge on Earth.
Only a few surprises here – somehow we thought that the Doctor would save Isabella (the shipmakers daughter) – it was SHOCKING that he didn’t. It was SHOCKING that she died..really!? Isn’t the Doctor supposed to save everyone? since when do good people die in Doctor Who?

Gotta hand it to the BBC – they’ve got a real winner with Matt Smith and the new Doctor Who.
They’re now taking the great new Doctor and the lovely Ms. Pond to the next level though with a series of free downloadable adventure games.
The first one looks like great fun too..

Jean-Luc Picard,
Prof X – or just plain Patrick Stewart, the man is a living legend and now he’s been Knighted by the Queen of the England.
Congrats Sir Patrick!
How many other great SciFi actors have been knighted?
Well we know of Sir Alec Guiness (Ben Kenobi) of course…but beyond that the list gets a little sparse…Doctor Who’s Tom Baker hasn’t been knighted yet has he?

Massively Multiplayer online games are great — if you’ve got money to burn.
That’s why Sony’s announcement this week of the new Clone Wars Adventures MMO amazed us – basic online gaming capabilities will be …wait for it…FREE.
yESS there are paid upgrades — but the basic gaming capabilities – the stuff that will suffice for most 8 -12 year olds is free.
That’s amazing and will likely help to make this the top MMO in the world in short order –but first the game needs to be officially released. That’s expected now in the fall.
Superman New Krypton Saga Ends – The Best Superman Story Ever Told!! June 1, 2010

That’s it. The New Krypton saga is now over
.
War of the Supermen #4 marks the end of a saga that in our opinion — is one of the greatest Superman story arcs of all time.
It began with Kandor coming out of the bottle and ending up as a city on Earth – then they got their own planet and called it New Krypton — that got blowed up
real good so the Kryptonians came to Earth to trash it.
The trashing of Earth – that’s the basic War of the Supermen story and it comes to an end in War of the Supermen #4.
In the end, General Zod gets banished back to the Phantom Zone, General Lane dies and Metropolis goes back to its (not so) normal self.
Overall the New Krypton saga has been an incredible ride. We saw the first issue on the stands and it was the first time we actually bought a Superman title in at least ten years.
It was New Krypton that pulled us back into the Superman universe. Here we had the Man of Steel, as not unique- but being one among many. A superman on a planet of supermen. On New Krypton, Superman was just Kal-El. He was a ‘regular’ guy and he ‘technically’ for a time reported to Zod and even took over for Zod when Zod was out of commission for awhile.
Ohh and the ending of this story is nothing short of brilliant with the great prose of Lois Lane:
One Kryptonian came to Earth and helped make it a better place.
We made him our greatest hero.
100,000 Kryptonians came and they were seen as a threat. They were met with suspicion, hatred and eventually death. We–humanity–were incapable of accepting what they had to offer, accepting that change, so we lashed out at them. Destroyed them.
New Krypton gave us a different perspective on Kal-El and one that we looked forward to reading often and regularly. Will we now continue to pick up Superman titles? That remains to be seen, but now that the New Krypton saga is done, how can anything else not be a letdown at this point?

FlashForward Series Ends with a FlashForward May 28, 2010

The Series Finale of FlashForward was one amazing show.
The FlashForward’s that began the series – mostly – came true didn’t they? The show -mostly- came full circle.
And the biggest surprise is that the show ends on another blackout – with another set of FlashForwards.
The whole thing with Mark Benford fighting like a madman with the terrorists in the FBI building was amazing – esp with Asst. Director Witteck in the washroom with his shotgun – (whereas in his original flash forward he was just in the washroom taking a dump).
What were these new FlashForward’s? Charlie saying – ‘They Found him!’ – was she talking about her dad — who jumped out of a window as the building blew up.
What was the deal with the kangaroo during the blackout again?
We’ll likely never know now as the series as far as we know hasn’t been picked up by ABC for a second season.
No this isn’t the ending that the show should have had – there are still a tonne of unanswered questions. But make no mistake about it – the series went out with a bang.

Lloyd – no Just coffee (the name of the coffee brand is Just Coffee).
And we thought that episode three was pointless…but hey this was still kinda fun in a quirky way…and next episode Clint returns!

Firefly has been off the air and movie screens for years, but the fans keep asking for more.
A new book that just came out yesterday Firefly: Still Flying: A Celebration of Joss Whedon’s Acclaimed TV Series <– cheaper at Amazon than anywhere else we’ve seen)
give us some new insights into the show from the shows writers.
But the real bonus here is four new stories from the Firefly verse.
FUN WITH DICK AND JAYNE written and drawn by Ben Edlund
WHAT HOLDS US DOWN by Jane Espenson
CRYSTAL by Brett Matthews
TAKE THE SKY by Jose Molina
Anyone of these could have been episodes – as they were written by the same writers who wrote the show. Yeaah, we’re excited too.
Star Wars Crosscurrent – Sith/Jedi Hybrid clones? Darth Krayt in a book?? May 26, 2010

Star Wars Crosscurrent by Paul Kemp – the short review is that this is an awesome book.
We get multiple timelines 5,000 years ago with Jedi and Exar Kun era Sith, colliding with the post Darth Caedus era.
We also get the first mention of Darth Krayt outside of the Star Wars Legacy comics that we know and love.
The structure of having multiple plots come together is the Star Wars formula and Kemp follows it well. The Jedi Jaden is a decent but troubled Jedi and it’s easy to see his parallels with the ancient Jedi.
The ancient Sith Saes is another cool character, though it’s a shame we won’t get to see more of him. The Anzat ‘soup drinker’ character was a bit weird and didn’t quite fit in, but still that didn’t detract from a great story.
And oh yeah, Jedi/Sith hybrid clones are on the rampage. Great stuff.
From beginning to end, this book held our interest with a combination of great plot and interesting new characters.

FOX killed Firefly before it’s time …that’s a well known fact.
The Serenity movie was ok, but we want more, so we go some decent comics, but we still want more.
So the fans have stepped in and there is a fan flick currently under production that really has got our attention. NO this isn’t some low grade fan flick – this is slick stuff.
Stargate Universe – Telford is a Traitor – as SG-1’s Jackson and O’Neil cameo May 24, 2010

With Stargate Universe being a very different type of show than typical Stargates – it’s great to have an episode like —Subversion that brings us right back into the world of SG-1 and the genesis of this series.
The whole leutian alliance thing – seems so far away – cause it is after all 18 episodes and 17 hours + of this show ago right?
That said, is it any surprise that there was a traitor?
Now we don’t really know Col. Telford all the much so we don’t care, but still neat to make that whole connection.
Also great to see General O’Neil get on board Destiny for the first time.
Stargate Universe is its own show, but we should never forget that is it (thanks to the stones) tightly linked with the whole Stargate universe of shows. Wonder when the Stargate Atlantis team will show up…

So we finally reach D Day that day that the FlashForward are supposed to have occurred and (some) things are as they should be.
The biggest surprise for us though – is the chase to try and figure out who triggered the blackout.
No where did we have a previous hint that it was Jericho – but it kinda/sorta makes sense in the end esp wit the whole President getting killed thing – or does it?
And was Jericho paying Simon and Lloyd?
Guess we’ll have to wait until season two to find out!

“You have to come back because you belong with me,” Olivia Dunham.
Wow – the good Olivia finally admits her feelings for Peter — and then she gets trapped on the wrong side.
What’s an amazing twist.
Also amazing to see dr. bell and Walter together – and the final revelation that it was Walter himself that asked for parts of his brain to be cut out.

Red Sky is a turning point episode for the new version of V.
Chad Decker finally sees the truth, Anna finally pulls the trigger on Earth and we get the line we’ve been waiting for since the show began.
V isn’t for visitor. V is for VICTORY! (remember that from the original series?)
So what is Red Sky? it’s gotta be the V’s poisoning the Earth somehow isn’t it? So that way their slimy Lizard tails and come out…
And speaking of Lizard tails, why didn’t we get to see the Baby’s face?
