Star Wars Rebellion is a misplaced comic book series in the new Dark Horse Star Wars lineup.
It lacks the drama and direction of Knights of the Old Republic, the awesomeness of Legacy and the darkness of Dark Times.
It’s just basic PULP comic stuff.
The ridiculous amount of time between issues also makes this a stoopid series to even try and follow (but we do, not sure what that says about us).
Basic story in this issue, transparent 2D cardboard cutout characters and pedestrian art.
If you’re looking for pulp Star Wars ..here ya go!

I dunno. Dark Times isn’t bad..but without Wheatley’s art this series isn’t great either.
So we’ve got some kind of double cross here and our two plot lines are coming together.
Not particularly memorable stuff..but it does move the plot along. If you’re not already into this series don’t start here, wait till Vector hits it in a few months.

This is the story arc that we had been waiting for ever since Legacy first hit the stand and boy did it deliver.
Cade face to face with Darth Krayt (whose identity is finally revealed) as the last Skywalker decides whether or not he will follow Vader to the Dark side.
Finally his friends come to the rescue and for the first time in more than 6 issues, Cade is back on the Mynock.
WOW.
All this time though we have been missing out on the other goings on in the new Legacy universe…so while this story arc has been one of the most impressive Star Wars storylines of all time…we’re eager for a bit of a break..and see what everyone else is up too…

Star Wars Vector – the comic book event of the year is coming next week from Dark Horse.
All Dark Horse Star Wars titles will be pulled in stretching a massive 4,000 year scope.
There has been massive speculation about how it all ties together with few details shared thus far.
But in a set of preview panes that Dark Horse has made available for the first issue of Vector (appearing in Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic #25)
It clearly looks like they’re going to draw the connection very early on .
Hard to say quite what the issue is but until i see otherwise i think it’s a massive Sith…not the Dark Jedi Sith..the ancient Sith..plot spanning the generations.
Then again with Vader apparently fighting alongside Luke and Cade Skywalker as well as Zayne Carrick maybe the Sith aren’t the prob…. we’ll find out soooon!

There have been conspiracy theories about the shooting of JFK for years.
Teen Titans Lost Annual #1 has a very interesting ‘comic’ take.
In a nutshell JFK is abducted by Aliens (who look like clones of The Beatles) to lead them in battle against other aliens.
While JFK is in space, he’s replaced on earth by a clone and it is the clone that is assassinated.
JFK himself remains in outer space leading various Alien species to peaceful negotiations with their neighbors.
Weird stuff but a fun read that is highly recommended if you can find a copy of this issue.

The last 17 issues of Legacy have been awesome and issue number 18 continues that tradition.
We finally learn of the link between Darth Krayt and Darth Caedus – the critical link that connects Star Wars Legacy with the New Jedi Order and Legacy of the Force books.
It’s a fine link – essentially Vergere – the same Jedi creation that changed Jacen Solo did the same kind of thing to Hett/Darth Krayt while onboard a Vong Cruiser.
The Sith that are hiding out on Korriban in the time of Legacy of the Force (that Lumiya and Alema Rar knew) are the same as Krayt’s Sith…hurray! Anything else likely would not have made sense and would have messed up continuity and canon.
Beyond the end of Darth Krayt explaining how he came into being..we see the Vong’s Embrace of Pain (yup that sucker) but as opposed to Jacen Solo (and maybe Ben
Skywalker too?) it doesn’t mess up Cade…too much (yet).
Perhaps most importantly though…Cade sees a vision of his Dad – Kol Skywalker – and rejects the Sith – fighting his way out and killing (or so we think) the Sith hottie herself..Darth Talon (yeah her…the awesome Twi’lek that Cade hooks up with and the same that is on the cover of issue zero of Legacy.
Again the artwork is sheer brilliance and is the best of any current ongoing Star Wars series.
It will be VERY interesting to see what happens next as Cade’s MAMA and Cade’s ole bounty hunting pals help him out to escape the clutches of Krayt…
Oh and what about Roan Fel and his daughter?
Lots of stuff for us to get caught up on…and then of course there is Vector….man oh man…if Legacy was a weekly series i don’t think it would be enough!!
Is Darth Talon really dead? We’ll see…one thing is for sure, i don’t think she’ll easily be forgotten.

Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade.
When it actually first happened I remember my shock..now years later when this special edition hardcover including that most memorable storyline of the marriage of Luke and Mara..my feelings are somewhat mixed.
Mara in the ‘regular’ timeline of the Expanded Universe is now dead (and don’t forget to sign the ShowMeSciFi.com petition to bring Mara back!). But to revisit this happiest of times in this incredible hardcover edition is a wonderful thing.
The story isn’t terribly innovative — it’s a wedding story after all — but it’s solid. The art is great and it holds your attention from cover to cover.
The format – the hardcover with the extra special paper stock is incredible and makes everything look/feel (and almost read) better than any other comic format ever produced by Dark Horse. Bottom line is it’s a great read and a must have addition to every Star Wars Expanded Universe fans collection — even more so now that Mara has left us.

We’ve had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Knights of the Old Republic. It started off well then got pretty aweful about a year ago but the last 5 issues have been really solid.
Issue #24 is another great issue and marks the solid return of this title to its initial glory. Finally Zayne comes back to the Jedi Tower on Taris..yet another Jedi admits that Zayne didn’t kill the padawans and we hear more about the prophesy that set this whole series in motion.
The art which had been lopsided for a while is and has been solid for the last 5 issues as well and this issue overall was great and enjoyable read.
This series now is set to move to its next phase…as the birthplace of the first Star Wars comics crossover event ever with Vector.
My guess is that Vector will somehow relate to that initial prophesy that set KOTOR in motion in the first place. The great Jedi seer somehow saw deep into the future with both the events of her time, that of the End of the Republic and further out into the Legacy era itself. It’s a massive vision that Dark Horse will try and weave with Vector. I’m glad that it’s beginning in KOTOR.

This is one depressing series.
Issue #5 of course was one for the ages…this issue just add a bit more misery to mix. This series has real interesting guiding plot line…make the characters miserable…give them a little hope..take it a way and then do a double cross of some sort.
Bomo is getting more integrated in with the crew here and in the parallel story line the Jedi outcasts are making a home for themselves such that it is.
The only weak point is that this is the first issue in awhile not drawn by Doug Wheatley whose artistic style is without peer.
That’s not to say the art is bad (cause it’s not)..it’s just not the same.

No, the dumb a$$es that run the studios and the TV networks haven’t come to their senses.
The geniuses at Dark Horse comic on the other hand have…
There’s plenty of reason for the Browncoats to look forward to 2008. Dark Horse has a whole lot of Serenity coming down the pipeline! First and foremost is the new Serenity comics series that is due out in March. This three-issue series, Serenity: Better Days, is a step back in time to the early years of the Firefly crew, and the fledgling gang’s turbulent attempts to cope with success after they pull off their first successful heist. It features the same creative team as Those Left Behind, with the story by Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews, art by Will Conrad, and Adam Hughes providing all three covers this time.
Those Left Behind was a great comic series and a must read prequel for the Serenity movie.
Considering the Joss Whedon himself is on this..how could this fail? Especially as a comic? That said…why just a mini-series and not a full series?? Surely there are enough browncoat loving Firefly fans to support a monthly book right!?

Not a great issue, but not bad either.
The plot moves along as Zayne avoids death (again) at the hands of one of the guilty Jedi who actually did kill padawans. It wasn’t a particularly strong scene in this issue, but it worked.
Really that’s the best way to sum this issue up – it works to move along the plot. This whole arc on Taris winds up next issue so all the characters need to be in their proper positions…and that’s where they’re going…
And perhaps from a wider perspective, the introduction of Cassus Fett as a strong Mando’ade is key here…we all know that eventually Fett will become the Mandalore and generations that follow with the Fett name will carry the title too…(like Boba Fett in Legacy of the Force).

A new story arc takes shape and it looks real good so far. A series of terrorist attacks takes place across the colonies, and the Battlestar Galactica is in charge of the investigation. A nice multi-threaded story with decent art, dialogue and action.
I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again – while Mr. Moore decides on when Season 4 will ever show up (and the awesomeness of Razor aside). Dynamites Battlestar Galactica comics are really great avenue to get your BSG fix.
Pacing follows a BSG TV episode.
Characters are the same.
Plots could easily have fallen out of Mr. Moore’s own script book too.

A new story arc begins..and so far..so VERY VERY good.
After 21 issues and almost two year Zayne finally comes back to Taris which is now under the control of the Mandalorians…why it has taken this long..don’t know but it’s neat to see it now.
A nice balance of resistance fighters, Mandalorians and past intrigues in this issue that set the tone for this new arc.
Artwork in this issues is consistent – which is good – since past issues have been week in the art department.
If you’ve been avoiding KOTOR..this might be a great spot to jump in and ENJOY.

Star Wars Legacy #17 continues the string of unbroken AWESOME stories in this series.
Cade Skywalker now hooks up with the Sith – literally and figuratively. I never thought of the Sith as sexual creatures but there it is…certainly a first in Star Wars comics as far as I know.
The T’willek’s lekku (those long things coming from their heads) being used as a tool for seduction is also something i’ve never ‘seen’ in a comic book. Has Cade actually turned to the Dark side? well….sure there is darkness in him..but somehow I think that the battle between light and dark is one that Cade will face his entire life (as did Quinlan Vos whom Cade’s exploits mimic in alot of ways).
The depth, complexity and richness of this series continues to grow and like most other fans..i can’t wait to get my hands on the next issue!

I remember well reading Allan Dean Foster’s Splinter of the Mind’s Eye when i was (much) younger. It was THE FIRST Star Wars expanded universe book and as such hold a very special place in the Star Wars pantheon.
I had never seen the Splinter of the Mind’s Eye comic though..so when Dark Horse included it as part of the 30th Anniversary Hardcover set…i grabbed it.
The art is pretty solid – the story not quite as rich as the Allan Dean Foster novel – but then again it’s not too shabby either. It’s always tough to see Luke and Leia in comic form since we always visualize the actors that played them.
That said this is a fine collection and another must have for all Star Wars fans and it will hold a treasured place on my book shelf.

WOW.
I’ve totally enjoyed the Star Wars 30th Anniversary hardcover set to date..but Light and Dark may well be the best of the bunch.
First off this book is very difficult to find…my local retailer never even got a shipment..i tracked it down at Midtown Comics in NYC after some difficulty…but nothing like the difficulty Quinlan Vos has to deal with.
Man is he one awesome Jedi – double agent for the republic and the confederacy page turning excitement with Jedi hunter Aurra Sing..this is one big book jam packed with cover to cover non-stop pure Star Wars excitement.

Order 66 is a cornerstone even in the Star Wars universe..and this issue revisits that order from yet another angle.
We see old friend Quinlan Vos in the beginning which really got my hopes up that he’d be back (he’s not it’s just a small cameo) but Jedi Master K’Kruhk is the main jedi here.
No surprise as we know he survives in a later era but it’s great to see/read his escape from Palpatine’s tyranny. Seeing as this series has been so dark so far…i’m not sure i really want to know how badly things will go for KKrunk and what kind of terrible ordeal he will endure.

Alright we’ve got the Mandies, Republic and dueling Jedi factions all in one room and issue where they’ve been since last issue.
Problem is the art in this book is so RIDICULOUSLY DREADFUL that Zane Carrick doesn’t look like he should and is drawn in yet another different way in this issue.
There is nothing else to say about this issue – if you can’t have a consistency or a style for the main character in a series – it’s just sad and makes the rest of this otherwise excellent issue a wasted effort.
