Doctor Who Fights Stone Statues (Weeping Angels) in Flesh and Stone May 30, 2010

We’re a little behind on our Doctor Who viewing – but we just got the chance to watch episodes 4 and5 which is really just one story (we got them both on Amazon -> The Time Of Angels and Flesh and Stone
).
At first this seemed like a dumb idea – the most dangerous entity in the universe is a stone statue?
But as we watched the two part episode – the whole concept really grew on us. Stone angels are everywhere — and when you look at them nothing happens, look away and hey…
This is a unique kind of concept and once that Matt Smith as Doctor Who made very real, believable and incredibly entertaining. The stone statues ‘wheeping angels’ is a basic enough idea, but one that was well executed, we’ll likely never look at a Stone Angel the same again.
And what’s the deal with Doctor Sung? Is she the Doctor’s wife? Does she kill the Doctor in the future/past?
FlashForward Series Ends with a FlashForward May 28, 2010

The Series Finale of FlashForward was one amazing show.
The FlashForward’s that began the series – mostly – came true didn’t they? The show -mostly- came full circle.
And the biggest surprise is that the show ends on another blackout – with another set of FlashForwards.
The whole thing with Mark Benford fighting like a madman with the terrorists in the FBI building was amazing – esp with Asst. Director Witteck in the washroom with his shotgun – (whereas in his original flash forward he was just in the washroom taking a dump).
What were these new FlashForward’s? Charlie saying – ‘They Found him!’ – was she talking about her dad — who jumped out of a window as the building blew up.
What was the deal with the kangaroo during the blackout again?
We’ll likely never know now as the series as far as we know hasn’t been picked up by ABC for a second season.
No this isn’t the ending that the show should have had – there are still a tonne of unanswered questions. But make no mistake about it – the series went out with a bang.

Best line – Hello Lloyd, stealing coffee I see. are you stealing anything else?
Lloyd – no Just coffee (the name of the coffee brand is Just Coffee).
And we thought that episode three was pointless…but hey this was still kinda fun in a quirky way…and next episode Clint returns!

Lloyd is officially the worst day shift manager ever??
Really?
Is it just us or is Chad Vader now totally bereft of any entertainment value?
Star Wars Crosscurrent – Sith/Jedi Hybrid clones? Darth Krayt in a book?? May 26, 2010

Star Wars Crosscurrent by Paul Kemp – the short review is that this is an awesome book.
We get multiple timelines 5,000 years ago with Jedi and Exar Kun era Sith, colliding with the post Darth Caedus era.
We also get the first mention of Darth Krayt outside of the Star Wars Legacy comics that we know and love.
The structure of having multiple plots come together is the Star Wars formula and Kemp follows it well. The Jedi Jaden is a decent but troubled Jedi and it’s easy to see his parallels with the ancient Jedi.
The ancient Sith Saes is another cool character, though it’s a shame we won’t get to see more of him. The Anzat ‘soup drinker’ character was a bit weird and didn’t quite fit in, but still that didn’t detract from a great story.
And oh yeah, Jedi/Sith hybrid clones are on the rampage. Great stuff.
From beginning to end, this book held our interest with a combination of great plot and interesting new characters.
Stargate Universe – Telford is a Traitor – as SG-1’s Jackson and O’Neil cameo May 24, 2010

With Stargate Universe being a very different type of show than typical Stargates – it’s great to have an episode like —Subversion that brings us right back into the world of SG-1 and the genesis of this series.
The whole leutian alliance thing – seems so far away – cause it is after all 18 episodes and 17 hours + of this show ago right?
That said, is it any surprise that there was a traitor?
Now we don’t really know Col. Telford all the much so we don’t care, but still neat to make that whole connection.
Also great to see General O’Neil get on board Destiny for the first time.
Stargate Universe is its own show, but we should never forget that is it (thanks to the stones) tightly linked with the whole Stargate universe of shows. Wonder when the Stargate Atlantis team will show up…
FlashForward – Jericho Caused the Blackout?? May 21, 2010

So we finally reach D Day that day that the FlashForward are supposed to have occurred and (some) things are as they should be.
The biggest surprise for us though – is the chase to try and figure out who triggered the blackout.
No where did we have a previous hint that it was Jericho – but it kinda/sorta makes sense in the end esp wit the whole President getting killed thing – or does it?
And was Jericho paying Simon and Lloyd?
Guess we’ll have to wait until season two to find out!

“You have to come back because you belong with me,” Olivia Dunham.
Wow – the good Olivia finally admits her feelings for Peter — and then she gets trapped on the wrong side.
What’s an amazing twist.
Also amazing to see dr. bell and Walter together – and the final revelation that it was Walter himself that asked for parts of his brain to be cut out.

Red Sky is a turning point episode for the new version of V.
Chad Decker finally sees the truth, Anna finally pulls the trigger on Earth and we get the line we’ve been waiting for since the show began.
V isn’t for visitor. V is for VICTORY! (remember that from the original series?)
So what is Red Sky? it’s gotta be the V’s poisoning the Earth somehow isn’t it? So that way their slimy Lizard tails and come out…
And speaking of Lizard tails, why didn’t we get to see the Baby’s face?
Stargate Universe – Pain – Lt. James is a Nympho Nutbag May 17, 2010

Stargate Universe –Pain – started off in a way that made us second guess if we were watching the right channel.
Lt. James (that’s her breasts on the left) semi-naked rolling around with Lt. Scott. If we wanted to watch porn, we wouldn’t watch Syfy. But hey that’s Lt. James role in this show. She’s the disturbed nympho that craves getting Lt Scott back and would kill him if she could.
Why every shot of her focuses on her breasts is all about her role in the show. It’ll be interesting to see if she ever moves beyond the sex to be a real character or if the camera is just stuck on her for one reason alone.

Over There – a parallel Earth where Olivia Dunham is an auburn haired vixen, broils is a colonel and fringe division is part of the Department of Defence is one weird place.
And oh yeah, Walter Bishop is not a nutcase, he’s the Secretary of Defence.
Talk about a freakshow mirror universe.
What I want to know though, is how do they plan on getting back to the other side? Will Dr. Bell help? and why isn’t the fabric of Crazy Walter’s Earth ripped too? Or is that all part of the Pattern that we were supposed to be following in the first place?

This week’s episode of FlashForward had a cool flash back with Gabriel (Dr. Baltar from Battlestar Galactica) – watching retro cartoon:
Roger Ramjet – Hero of Our Nation
That sure was a blast from the past wasn’t it? It’s been a VERY long time since we’ve seen or heard Roger Ramjet anywhere – so I nice tip of the hat from the FlashForward ppl to SciFi geeks.
While you can now buy the an entire deluxe DVD with all the Roger Ramjets episodes at Amazon (Roger Ramjet – Hero of Our Nation (Deluxe Collector’s Edition) .. it’s the intro music that we remember most…

So we finally get caught up to the the flash forward date…has it really been that long?
Amazing how Benford got Janice Hawk to spill the beans on her CIA involvement…how she didn’t end up dead at the end of the show…we don’t know, but she’s got to have a target painted on her head now.
So what’s next? Another blackout??

This comic book is all about one thing – the destruction of New Krypton.
No we didn’t see this coming. After two years of following the New Krypton saga, we’ve grown fond of the place.
New Krypton/Kandor has been part of the Superman universe for what 40 years or more at this point? and now it’s GONE.
Unbelievable.
And all destroyed by Luthor/Lane via Reactron — killer of Supergirl’s dad too – now killer of her mom and Kandor itself.
We’re still in shock.

Stargate Universe – Lt. James Sabotage – and how did Chloe, Scott and Eli get back so fast? May 9, 2010

Sabotage was an interesting episode on many levels.
How the heck did Scott, Eli and Chloe get back so fast? you mean they just stayed on that planet hoping that the remote would activate?? really?
AND finally loads of screen time for Lt. James – though kind of lame that we didn’t see her actually sabotage the systems…that might have been good to see.
The big mystery now is what happened to Dr. Franklin? Has he somehow become ‘one’ with Destiny such that he has ascended to become part of the shiP?

And why were the shape shifters after the other ppl’s brains, when they clearly knew where Peter was?
Makes no sense.

Interesting episode but not at the same level of the last two episodes…heck we didn’t even see the double-agent Janis Hawk this time at alll!

Make not mistake about it — the Sith of Star Wars Legacy show no mercy and no compassion to anyone.
Just look at what they do to Dac in this issue.
We didn’t like this issue — large parts of the story don’t make sense.
For example, how did the GA jump into the system undetected in the first place?
Also if the virus took a few days to wipe out the whole population – doesn’ t that imply that even those that escaped were still susceptible to the toxin? Making escape irrelevant right?

Ok after 11 episodes (with this week’s Hearts and Minds) we still don’t know what the V’s want with us.
I don’t think we’re just food for them this time around.
With the Live Aboard program, we know see that the V’s like sticking a whole lot of needles in humans – sure that could be some kind of food thing or is it something else?
We just don’t know. And we also have yet to see a completely unskinned V either – in full Lizard get up.
Interesting episode though overall, though we have no idea why Anna didn’t put humans on the shuttle instead of the bones. After all, she has no regard for human life so why not put humans on the shuttle?
