Sure it’s been out for a two week on DVD now but Black Friday pricing for Star Trek 2009 is really out of this world.
Over at Amazon –Star Trek (Single-Disc Edition) – is only $9 which is half price for a brand new copy.
We haven’t yet seen $9 copies anywhere else, though we’d expect that by January Blockbuster will have them in the previously viewed shelf.
But if you need one of these for an Xmas gift this might be a good time to pick it up.

io9 has what it claims to be a confirmation from George Lucas’ ILM and a frame from the blu-ray version of Star Trek 2009
In real-time play, it’s not even a second long, but it’s clear that everyone’s favorite astromech was on Nero’s ship when the NCC-1701 blasted her to oblivion.
Here’s the thumbnail from io9:

Wow – somehow until today no one knew that Wil Wheaton – best known to Star Trek Fans for his work on Next Generation as Ensign Wesley Crusher – was actually in J J Abrams star trek 2009.
Wheaton did the voice over work for the Romulans on Nero’s ship.
Listen in to this clip below to the voice that says, “”Sir, if you ignite the Red Matter now … ”

J J Abrams Star Trek makes it to the ‘little’ screen on Nov. 17th.
Alongside the movie itself the DVD release will include a few notable outtakes including the deleted Klingon Scene. They don’t quite look like regular klingons to us, but hey close enough. We’ve included the clip below which aired on the Scream 2009 awards a few weeks back.
The other big thing is a featurette called “The Shatner Conundrum” which is all about why Will Shatner didn’t make it into the movie. It’s still the biggest travesty in my opinion and the featurette doesn’t make it any better

The Star Trek Destiny series ripped apart the Star Trek universe leaving billions dead and billions more homeless…
This isn’t a Federation vs SOMEONE ELSE book, this is a Federation against itself book as it tries to deal with massive refugee movements and politics.
At first I was a bit skeptical — but once I got into this book I found it totally engaging. The characters are true – Worf has the right dialogue as does Picard — the author has done a brilliant work capturing the real essence of what always has made TNG work.
The basics of the story were interesting but it is the storytelling and the characters that make this book Awesome.
In a lot of ways, we found this book to be even better than the first Star Trek Destiny fallout book – A Singular Destiny – though that’s a great book too.
We like where the Star Trek universe is heading – this is the rich complexity of environments, characters and plots that only great storytelling and masterful authors can deliver. Losing the peace was great, my only complaint now is what’s next? How many months (years?) will we have to wait until the next great Star Trek TNG book?

Totally hilarious. A drunk Bill Shatner shows up on the Tonight Show and tries to tell a funny story that was supposed to end with him giving the Vulcan salute.
Only he can’t do it cause he’s too drunk. Conan goes nuts and jumps on a table yelling at him!

Star Trek Nero # 1 – what was Nero doing while waiting the 25 years for Spock to appear? June 17, 2009

No we didn’t like Star Trek XI all that much but do did like the Star Trek Countdown comic book prequel.
The same people are now back it and set to bring us the Star Trek Nero series.
Remember that Nero was ‘stuck’ for 25 years waiting for Spock prime to return..what happened during that period?
We know he gets stuck a Rurah Penthe but what else?
That’s what this comic will explore. It’s not out till August, but we’ll be waiting for it!

ok SO we didn’t LOVE Star Trek XI because of some alternate universe timeline issues…but maybe we were a little harsh..
We just finished reading the Star Trek Countdown Trade Paperback, and it sure does a lot to help Star Trek XI make sense.
For one, the comic ties in the Next Generation cast – Picard in this comic is the ambassador to Vulcan, Worf works for the Klingons and Data is back as Captain of the Enterprise (an imprint on B-4).
Nero’s ship — is explained as a Romulan research project including the best of Borg technology — that makes sense..and I sure wish the movie added that tidbit of info..
Red matter is well explained as is the Hobes star that destroyed Romulus. Basically this is the story that the movie failed to tell effectively – told from a post Star Trek Nemesis timeline.
It’s great stuff and it sure is too bad that this wasn’t part of the actual movie – that would have made the difference – for us – for Star Trek XI being ok – to Star Trek XI being the best Star Trek ever made.
Star Trek XI is Alternate Universe Crap. But a good standalone movie May 8, 2009

Star Trek XI, from a pure action, character and standalone plot point of view is one the top three Star Trek movies ever.
But Star Trek isn’t about standalone plots and that’s why this movie was so bitterly dissapointing. The whole thing is an alternate reality. So that means the 40 years of Star Trek history that we all know and love is thrown out the windows.
That’s BOGUS.
That aside there are some great things in Star Trek XI both Spock’s are great. Uhura’s relationship with Spock is cool. Kirk is a great character as is his dad. Nero is excellent as is Captain Pike.
The best scene for me was the Kobyashi Meru – that was brilliant. We first heard about how Kirk cheated the simulator in Star Trek II and now 30 years later we get to see how he actually did it and it WAS AWESOME.
The ship itself was a little lame.
Engineering is just a bunch of pipes and knobs, no warp core to speak off, which again is TOTALLY BOGUS.
But the jump to warp speed was cool and the ship’s displays and alert systems are all neat too.
Overall a mixed bag, but mostly positive and we’re likely to see this movie again and again and again. No this isn’t as good as Star Trek II but it’s easily a whole lot better than Nemesis, Search for spock and Final Frontier.

Just came across 10 Items or Less (TBS) and an episode called ‘Star Trok’. Funny stuff.
Basically the store (G&G) decides to have a Star Trek convention, but they can’t call it Trek (legal reasons) so they call it Trok.
Somehow they get Jolene Blalock (T’pol from Enterprise) to show up, but first she gets stuck in the freezer for a bit ..and well just go to TBS and watch the whole thing for free. It’s good fun and Jolene is great.

Star Trek XI isn’t even in the theatres yet but apparently Star Trek XII is already in the works.
Star Trek XII would be set for a summer of 2011 release.
“There’s obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn’t even come out yet,” Damon Lindelof told SciFi Wire , co-creator with Abrams of ABC’s Lost who produced the upcoming Trek but did not contribute to Orci and Kurtzman’s screenplay. “But we’re so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed.”

F-you Michael. (Patrick Stewart to Michael Dorn)
What a waste of talent. The Family Guy pulled in all the great actors from Star Trek TNG and there was maybe two decent lines in the whole thing.
Patrick Stewart telling of Michael Dorn was classic – for sure…and Denise Crosby getting shot in the first minutes also classic.
After that? Levar Burton’s visor bit was funny – but for the most part nothing happened we didn’t even get funny Star Trek TNG puns.
And when Meg has her God tangent ..instead of pulling in ‘Q’ which would have made sense – they pull in the Flash – ahh aha – theme from the early 80’s Queen song.
What a waste.

On March 29th after waaay too many years the cast of the best Star Trek show ever will finally be re-united — albeit in animated form.
All of the original main cast member will voice actors in the show ..
awesome.
Family Guy is a great show (though we weren’t super keen on Blue Harvest the star wars spoof).
I can hardly wait!

Following on the events of Star Trek Destiny, Star Trek: A Singular Destiny by Keith DeCandido shows us the Alpha Quadrant after the Borg devastation..
It’s not a pretty picture.
At first this book was a little hard to get into as it doesn’t focus on some of the character we already know…it takes a few chapters till Captain Dax of the Aventine makes her appearance and there is no Riker or Picard.
That said, we are introduced to a new character Professor Sonek Pran who is a very likeable and well written character – and is the cheif protaganist of this story.
We also do get some pull through a few chapters in from the SCE series as well as the Klingon Gorkon series…so it all works out.
As for the plot, the final conclusion – the rise of the Typhon Pact was kinda neat but how all the little pieces of the conspiracy fit together from Zalda all the way up — seems like a bit of a stretch to us.
One Ferengi was able to negotiate and trigger so much trouble across the Federation? Wouldn’t more than one ship of refugees come to Zalda?
Still, plot cohesion issues aside, this book is highly entertaining and a must read for those that love Star Trek Destiny.

“Your father was Captain of a Starship for 12 minutes. I dare you to do better.”
Captain Pike to James T. Kirk.
The first few trailers for the new Star Trek movie had us wondering if this new Star Trek movie would be a total disaster.
Apparently J J Abrams listened and the latest trailer is seamless stitched together in a way that should excite all Star Trek fans.
We know that this isn’t classic Trek – and the new trailer doesn’t pretend to be either. This is something new and it’s something AWESOME.
