Unbelievable! Lucas is going to release – yet another version of Star Wars – this time on bluray in 2011

No we don’t know if we Han will shoot first this time…but we will see a new scene in Return of the Jedi.

remember the scene where Vader meets Luke on Endor and Vader says  – ‘I see you’ve constructed a new lightsaber’ well now – 30 yrs later we’ll finally see Luke building that lightsaber.

There was a clip up on YouTube, but Lucas has gotten that pulled down.

Star Wars Fate of the Jedi Backlash – decent read but… August 4, 2010

We’ve been fans of the Star Wars Fate of the Jedi series so far — sure we can’t afford to buy the hardcovers (so we get ’em from the public library–unlike paperbacks which we buy..), but it’s worth the wait in most cases.

This one is mostly about Dathomir and what happens on that planet..yeaah Luke fight the sith again..and sure Ben is starting to like the Sith Chik…all good fun.

Over on Coruscant, it’s the usual nonsense and this book does a poorer job than its predecessors at showing that environment.

But overall, an incremental step in building out the bigger fate of the jedi story as the new Sith order becomes btr known. The whole battle btwn Daala and the Jedi on Coruscant in nonsense that we mostly skipped over, but the Jedi/Sith part is fine reading…

We can hardly wait until it’s our turn on the wait list to pick up the next book in this fun series.

Star Wars Legacy #49 – What Now Dark Horse???? July 12, 2010

It’s hard to believe and accept that Star Wars Legacy is almost done.
Issue #49 is the second last issue and there is so much left undiscovered and unresolved.
So we’ve got Cade still on a Sith killing mission and that’s great, he’s now on Utapau knocking down the sith and he’ll come in contact with the Galactic Alliance too for the first time in…oh what 50 issues?!!

The Princess Fel being held by her former Imperial Knight master – now turned Sith – is kinda of a neat twist too..but with so much going on , it’s impact is marginal.

How will this series end? Will Fel return to control? Where is Krayt? Will Cade Skywalker become the Emperor?

so very many things going on..this series could AND SHOULD continued for a very long time.

It’s a shame and a travesty that Dark Horse is ending this series at #50. They’ve promised some kind of surprise — so we’ll see what they’ve got in store…but seeing as Legacy is without a doubt ..THE GREATEST STAR WARS COMIC OF ALL TIME …we doubt they’ll surprise us.

Back in May, GPS vendor TomTom released their first Star Wars themed GPS voices – with a Darth Vader module.

Now they’re moving away for the Dark Side with a new Yoda voice that is soo amazing you too will use the Force to find your destination.

As was the case with the Darth Vader GPS module, the good folks at TomTom have put together a behind the scenes video with the 900 year old Jedi Master himself.

Drive or Drive Not, there is Bus.

Have you seen the new Adidas commercial where Snoop Dog and David Beckham are placed inside of the Mos Eisley Cantina?

It’s amazingly well done – totally seamless with the original footage. And amazing to see Walrus-man taken out – by someone other than Kenobi.

WTF? At the end of the The Force Unleashed – well it’s the end. There shouldn’t be a continuation right?

Apparently not…Is the ‘secret apprentice’ now a clone? ??

Grand Moff Tarkin wasn’t the first Sith lackey to take aim at Alderaan, though he was the last.

Apparently the Sith fought the Republic for a Battle of Alderaan in the Old Republic era too and now there is an INCREDIBLY AWESOME cinematic trailer out – for the Old Republic MMO – highlighting the Hope of that battle.

In it there is a Jedi – that somehow is able to stop a Sith lightsaber with her bare hands — how I don’t know, but it’s wickedly cool.

WOW. KRIFFING WOW.

So much action and plot in this issue, it’s nearly impossible to think of anything to say other than..

WOW.

Cade is one serious Sith hunting machine now – he is the ultimate sith/jedi hybrid and we doubt there is any force in the universe that can stop him now.

The princess FINALLY makes her return appearance (she has been so underutilized in this series..)

And the biggest surprise on the last page of this issue…the man that created the new Sith isn’t dead after all…then again did anyone of us really think he wouldn’t return??

Massively Multiplayer online games are great — if you’ve got money to burn.

That’s why Sony’s announcement this week of the new Clone Wars Adventures MMO amazed us – basic online gaming capabilities will be …wait for it…FREE.

yESS there are paid upgrades — but the basic gaming capabilities – the stuff that will suffice for most 8 -12 year olds is free.

That’s amazing and will likely help to make this the top MMO in the world in short order –but first the game needs to be officially released. That’s expected now in the fall.

Star Wars Crosscurrent – Sith/Jedi Hybrid clones? Darth Krayt in a book?? May 26, 2010

Star Wars Crosscurrent Star Wars Crosscurrent by Paul Kemp – the short review is that this is an awesome book.

We get multiple timelines 5,000 years ago with Jedi and Exar Kun era Sith, colliding with the post Darth Caedus era.

We also get the first mention of Darth Krayt outside of the Star Wars Legacy comics that we know and love.

The structure of having multiple plots come together is the Star Wars formula and Kemp follows it well. The Jedi Jaden is a decent but troubled Jedi and it’s easy to see his parallels with the ancient Jedi.

The ancient Sith Saes is another cool character, though it’s a shame we won’t get to see more of him. The Anzat ‘soup drinker’ character was a bit weird and didn’t quite fit in, but still that didn’t detract from a great story.

And oh yeah, Jedi/Sith hybrid clones are on the rampage. Great stuff.

From beginning to end, this book held our interest with a combination of great plot and interesting new characters.

GPS voices are always a bit creepy don’t you think?

Wouldn’t it be great to get the Dark Lord of the Sith instead?

TomTom users now have that choice – which is reason enough for a Star Wars fan to buy a TomTom GPS.

The TomTom ppl have also now put together a behind the scenes video of them getting Vader to give the directions — it’s totally hilarious.

Make not mistake about it — the Sith of Star Wars Legacy show no mercy and no compassion to anyone.

Just look at what they do to Dac in this issue.

We didn’t like this issue — large parts of the story don’t make sense.

For example, how did the GA jump into the system undetected in the first place?

Also if the virus took a few days to wipe out the whole population – doesn’ t that imply that even those that escaped were still susceptible to the toxin? Making escape irrelevant right?

With months in-between issue Dark Horse has made this a tough series to follow..

But we follow cause it’s soo freakin awesome.

Finally we get some action here and only one pirate group is left standing – sword law be damned.

But how is Das Jennir going to save everyone here? And will he reconnect with his pals bomo and crew?

One this is for sure when the next and final issue in this arc is out, we’re going back to re-read all five issues.

Star Wars Legacy #46 Cade Skywalker Turns to the Light April 12, 2010

Cade Skywalker isn’t a Jedi

He isn’t a Sith either.

He is what the Force made him – or so he says.

This issue we get to see Cade unleash his Dark Side and his Light Side – yeaah it was cheesy that he used the light to save the Zeltron Delilah Blue – but also VERY VERY cool.

Cade is not a total stim junkie – he does have the heart of Jedi – and the power of the Sith within him.

Ohh and there’s more in this issue too isn’t there? Emperor Fel’s daughter is captured by the Sith!! how did that happen?

We really like Dark Horse’s Star Wars one-shots.

These are 1 issue stories – no need to buy multiple issues to get the whole story.

The latest one-shot – Purge – the Hidden Blade – is a basic but fun story.

And oh yeah the artwork by Chris Scalf is AMAZING – its a neat waterbrush kinda of effect that is soo different than what we’re used too and really a treat for the eyes.

The end of this story – is Vader disappointing the Emperor – not a terribly dramatic twist – but a fun read for sure.

Star Wars 501st An Imperial Commandos Novel – Has little to do with the 501st – and no it’s not a good book March 22, 2010

We’ve reviewed previous Star Wars Republic Commando before – most recently Order 66 -so we should have known what we were getting..

The 501st is the most legendary of all Stormtrooper legions – it is Vader’s Fist – the legion that Anakin/Darth Vader used to destroy the Jedi Temple.

So you’d think that a book called ‘ 501st’ would actually be about the 501st — but no that’s not the case with Karen Traviss’ book.

We get on scene with Vader – and the only part of the 501st in this whole book are two clone that are trying to desert. No big legion activity at all.

This book is just a continuation of the clone commander saga from Order 66 – and if you take it as such it’s not that bad a story. It’s all about how former Republic commandoes try and make a life for themselves on Mandalore while somehow trying to figure out how to reverse the aging process.

Kal ‘buir’ is a great heroic figure and we like him, the various clones – Niner, Darman in particular are great fun. The influx of Jedi in this book with Bardan, Kina Ha, Atis and Scout is also kinda of interesting.

But this is a book without a real ending and without real purpose – it’s just a bunch of  ‘scenes’ stitched together – and that’s what makes this book so unsatisfying in the end. You keep reading hoping for something to happen or looking for some big action – but that isn’t what this book delivers.

Sooo much going on in this one issue it’s hard to review, but also ooooooh so enjoyable.

We finally find out who is behind the Vongforms – none other than Darth Maladi who is now trying to take over the sith herself. Even more surprising is that she is trying to turn Cade back to the Dark Side – probably not a good thing for her in the end since he’s likely the most powerful Sith or Jedi in the Universe.

Will Cade save Delilah Blue? I sure hope so – i’d sure miss seeing that Zeltron hanging off Cade.

And what about the big Jedi/Roan Fel /Imperial Sith battle?

WOW – talk about action.

No surprise that the allies get together and we knew the Sith Imperials were coming but still fun to see. How Capt Yag will somehow not shoot down her own mother in the next issue  – i don’t know…

Star Wars : Darth Bane Dynasty of Evil – Is Bane Dead? March 1, 2010

Darth Bane Dynasty of Evil is the third  – and final book in the Darth Bane Trilogy. We’ve previously reviewed Darth Bane Path of Destruction (in 2006) and Darth Bane Rule of Two.  The first two books were among the best Star Wars books ever written.

Dynasty of Evil is a good book – but it’s not as incredible as the first two. This book does tie in all the great elements of the first two books as we get a little flashback of Bane/Des as a gloomwalker and the big deep core battle with Jedi in the second book.

We already know about Bane and his apprentice – what we get in this book is the build up and the final confrontation between master and apprentice Darth Zannah. That’s what the rule of two is all about – one to have the power the other to crave it.

The plot follows a typical Star Wars mold with multiple subplots that all merge at the end for one big climax. The Bane going to get Darth Addendu holocron plotline was the weak link and was a plodding exercise to read.

In contrast the Zannah subplot was a lot more interesting as she finds a potential apprentice.

The final confrontation though is what this book is all about. Zannah vs Bane. Master vs. Apprentice.

Yes it’s an epic battle that every Star Wars fan should read.

But it leaves us with some questions doesn’t it?

Is Bane actually dead? Or did he somehow manage to transfer some part of himself to Zannah?

It’s clear that Zannah triumphed — but we think that Bane is still in there somewhere…
