Stargate Universe Season 1 Episode 10 – Justice – a mid-season cliffhanger November 27, 2009

No new Stargate Universe this week, but next week will be the last episode for a few months…
Yeah we hate mid-season finales too.

The basic story behind the mid-season finale is another character story – this time we’ve got a murder on the destiny.

Everyone is shocked when a member of the crew is found dead from a gunshot wound. While at first glance it appears to be suicide, the gun is nowhere to be found. The crew is confined to quarters while a search is performed and when the gun shows up in Col. Young’s (LOUIS FERREIRA) quarters, he becomes the number one suspect. Fearing a mob scene, Young agrees to a trial and cedes command to Camile Wray (MING-NA).

Dr. Rush (ROBERT CARLYLE) convinces Wray to give him control of the science team and carte blanche with the new Ancient interface, previously kept under guard. But before Rush can unlock its secret, or Young’s trial can conclude, both are needed to explore a planet hiding a secret that threatens the Destiny and her crew.

Stargate Universe Episode 9 – titled –Life – wasn’t as good as the last episode but it was still kinda neat.

The background song -It’s been the worst day since yesterday – was so cool at the beginning and at the end it just fit so well.

We know Col Young’s wife was with Telfrod, and get that they had nice fight at the end.

The whole thing with Scott having a son, kinda interesting and just gives us more insight into his troubled nature.

Then there was the Lesbians (with Camille) –

Oh and we found out there is a ship’s slut, though it isn’t Lt. James.

And once again we see that Rush is a scumbag. What’s up with him lying about an icarus type planet a year away?

Overall a decent character development episode for the major SGU characters – though Eli got little screen time.

Life on the Destiny isn’t like other Stargate shows, there aren’t constant attacks by G’ould, wraith or Orii – it’s mostly a lonely existence.

And just in case you want to hear that great song again – it’s from a band called Flogging Molly – enjoy!

Stargate Universe – Time – For a moment there, I thought we were in trouble.. BEST EPISODE YET OF SGU!! November 14, 2009

sgu We’ve had our doubts about SGU over the first 7 episodes, and to borrow a line from this episode, ..for a few moments there I thought we were in trouble.

Episode 8, titled Time blew us away. Easily the best episode yet and one of the best Stargate episodes of any stargate series yet.

We’ve got a time loop within a timeloop within a timeloop.

Everyone dies, twice.

How frakking cool is that?

Sure Lt. Scott is the mega hero making sure the Keno gets back in all timelines, but it’s still cool.

The layer upon layer of complexity in this episode is what great science fiction is all about. Decent characters (though a little cheese with Eli and Chloe), aliens ripping out human guts and oh yeah some SCIENCE  FICTION(with the multiple time loops) as opposed to bogus pulp.

sguEli is the only decent character on Stargate Universe, yet for some reason the producers don’t want to see him happy (yet).

In this week’s episode Chloe (the Senator’s) daughter hooks up with the Lt Scott – instead of Eli. And after Eli showed her where the showers were…how grateful is she?

The episode looks like a typical – ok only x number of you will survive the rest are toast episode that we’ve seen a gazillion times in Stargate shows.

Unless something really great comes out of this episode, Stargate Universe at this early stage is already on the fast track to oblivion and early cancellation.

So far Stargate Universe has been a BUST literally.

The show has been mostly lame, but the ‘bust’ quotient was really high this week in the Darkness
episode.

The biggest culprit was one Lt. Vanessa James who was front and center with her…ahem..assets.

The actress that plays Lt. James – Julia Benson is now on the defense – and oh yes they’re all natural too.

I play 2nd Lt. Vanessa James and for all the talk about my natural (and believe me they are 100%) assets I promise you that there is much more to my character. Who knew that a tank top could cause such a stir.

sgu The pilot episode of Stargate Universe (Air ) was unlike any other Stargate pilot yet wasn’t it?

Finding Eli by way of a Last Starfighter type contest is a wickedly cool idea and one that will make him very different then Dr. McKay as a problem solver.

But first off, why was the Icarus base attacked? That part didn’t make sense. The attackers never made any claims, we never say them on screen – we just saw their ships. It was cool to see the USS General Hammond though wasn’t it?

The idea of a ninth chevron transporting to a ship is really cool though. The Destiny is unlike any other ancient ship we’ve ever seen.

But the bit about it being unmanned and then there being other ships that had gone before it to build Gates was a bit weak. If the other ships have already built a gate system then why send a ship?

That little plot issue aside, the characters in SGU are great. They are unlike the typical SG-1 and SG-Atlantis archetypes and really do create a different vibe for this show.

With the one military guy that was imprisoned (what was his deal?) the quick death of the Senator (kinda like the Col dying in the pilot of Atlantis) and a lack of air on the ship – we already have a few mysteries that will keep this show interesting for a few weeks.

Yes there are some holes in this show and it’s not perfect. But it is pretty frakkin cool to have Stargate back in a fresh new and innovative show.

*if you missed the show live Amazon has it now up on demand Air

A new trailer for Stargate Universe is now out ..this one showing us the basics of the story that we haven’t seen before.

The Earthers are on Icarus base – sounds like a beta site idea – and they fall under attack – jump through an open gate and end up on an ancient ship 7 billion light years from Earth.

Sound like they ended up in the Delta Quadrant..

anyways a cool trailer to watch and we can hardly wait until the series is finally on – WE NEED OUR STARGATE FIX!!

The latest trailer though looks a little lame …so let’s hope it’s just a blip

Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis led from one to other. We knew the character before the show began and it was a natural progression.

That’s not how Stargate Universe will be..since both SG-1 and Atlantis were heartlessly terminated by SyFy (what the frak is SyFy??).

Anyways the first trailer is up and it looks pretty good – the creative team on Stargate Universe is top-notch and even though SyFy will do everything they can to screw up the show, this team will make it work.

Stargate Universe adds Ming Na and Lou Diamond Phillips February 25, 2009

Looks like SciFi is rounding out the cast for the new Stargate Universe series set to debut later this year.

Phillips is Col. Telford, a proud lifelong military man, who puts his faith in the chain of command. Stubbornly confident, he’s highly regarded by his superiors. He is the chosen leader of the ill-fated expedition.

Ming-Na is Camile Wray, a human resources executive with the international oversight committee that governs the Stargate program. Now the highest-ranking member of that division left stranded on the ship, she carries herself with a misguided sense of superiority over the other military and civilian survivors.

The two new additions help to round out the cast that was announced last month for Stargate Universe.

stargate.atlantisStargate Atlantis producer Joe Mallozzi has a lot of ideas for Stargate Atlantis season 6.

While Season five episode 20 – the 100th episode for the show overall marked the series finale – it wasn’t originally supposed to be that way. Season five was supposed to be the gateway to a new awesome story arc of Season 6.

“It was also intended to be the launching point for a very interesting early season 6 scenario,” Mallozzi blogged. ” With Atlantis back on Earth, why the hell would the I.O.A. ever let it go? And if it remained, which, by all indications seemed likely, what would become of its occupants, especially Ronon and Teyla? Also, with a permanent station in the Milky Way, wouldn‘t Atlantis, logically, cease to be a launch point for gate travel and, instead, become a research center for Ancient technology? Well, I guess you’ll never know the answer to these questions…”

Actually we’ll find out some of them in the Stargate Atlantis movies – but still…Atlantis as a regular weekly series still apparently had a lot of gas left it in when Sci Fi Channel pulled the plug. What a shame.

Goodbye Stargate Atlantis – we’re sad to see you go.

The final episode of Stargate Atlantis was one of the best ever for the series – with the Wraith finally reaching Earth – and with Atlantis finally reaching Earth.

But the big battle – wasn’t nearly as great as when the G’ould in Stargate SG-1 attacked Earth was it? This sure was a whole lot more low key.

And what’s the deal with having no one in the Weapons chair empty? Sure Sheppard could fly the 302s but isn’t there anyone else on Earth (like O’Neil??) who could have sat in the chair too? Seemed kind of dumb.

But great to see Ronon die and come back and then get a girlfriend. Always good to see the Golden Gate Bridge though – would have more fun if they landed in New York City.

Unlike the final episode of Stargate SG-1 this was better series finale – sure there are loose ends but nothing like the crap SG-1 left us with.

The Wraith are still out there, Todd is on Earth and Pegasus Galaxy needs defending…but I suppose we’ll get that in upcoming Stargate Atlantis movies – no word yet on when those movie might show up – but hopefully they’ll be sooner rather than later.

Stargate Atlantis ends at a better time than SG-1 , since the primary enemy is still out there and there is lots more room to explore. Still it’s sad to see the show gone and Friday nights won’t be the same..

BUT HEY! Battlestar Galactica is back next week!

A few clips from the final episode of Stargate Atlantis have now …surfaced on YouTube.

The basic story is simple –the Wraith,  have at last uncovered the road to Earth. As they sweep aside any & all resistance in their new, colossal, mega-hiveship, the Atlantis expedition & Stargate Command coordinate a desperate defense against the oncoming Wraith onslaught. Defeat by the Wraith condemns humanity to a fate much worse than death.

In a touching scene – Stargate producers have also named a new ship the General Hammond (he died in real life).

It looks like there are a lot of cameo appearances in this episode – with Stargate Command personnel including Samantha Carter taking a staring role.

We can hardly wait until Friday when this airs!!

Wow what a great episode – and sadly the second last ever for Stargate Atlantis.

From beginning to end this episode had a real CSI feel – and that duelling metal and Johhny Cash Solitary Man soundtracks were just magnificient.

What if John Sheppard’s life had gone just a little different? This episode with him as a down on his luck Vegas cop tracking a killer (aka Wraith) fit perfectly. It’s still Sheppard – just a down on his luck version.

The Wraith with the makeup making his way in Vegas was also awesome – i’ll be doing a double take next time i’m in Vegas to make sure i’m not playing poker against a Wraith.

The funniest line? From McKay when he says well he’s not a Klingon at the Star Trek Experience – cause that closed down a few months ago!!

Sure there are those that will argue that for the second last episode of Stargate Atlantis we should’ve seen a more plot focussed story – I disagree.

This tangent to a parallel universe proves once again that Stargate Atlantis was not a copy of SG-1. Atlantis stands on its own merits. The brilliant story telling of this episode may not necessarily advance the mainline Atlantis story but it is a story that was incredibly entertaining and one of the best episodes in the entire five year run of Stargate Atlantis.

Talk about saving the best for last.

Now all we’ve got left is the final episode –

He’s done the Full Monty and now Robert Carlyle is set to play Dr. David Rush in the new Stargate Universe series.

It’s not clear is Carlyle will be a character in the vein of a Dr.Mckay or a col. Sheppard – though i’d suspect that he’ll be more like a Samantha Carter type – smart and not afraid to fight either.

Filming for the the Stargate Universe pilot starts in February 2009, with an eye to a summer 2009 premiere.

Considering that there are only TWO EPISODES LEFT of Stargate Atlantis – this was a really lame episode.

We’ve seen the body transfer thing a dozen or more times already – this one was not nearly as good as the SG-1 episode when Daniel Jackson and Vala got transfered – remember they almost got burned at the stake!

Still basicly good fun – it’s just we really wish that we’d get something MORE seeing as this series is capable of MORE and we’re almost done.

If I had written the final three or four episodes of Atlantis you can bet your Wraith hating soul that it would be a massively engaging four part cycle that engaged everything we all know and love about Atlantis. If the last two episodes are anything like this one – the show will go out with a whimper instead of a bang.

stargateatlantisThe ship got sick! Great stuff…and great to see Wraith drone warriors without their masks on too.

Darn shame the treatment doesn’t work to help the Wraith…but

Ultimately this episode was about Sheppard and Todd and the bond between the two.

It’s a bond that we’ll see again – hopefully before the series ends in three more episodes…it totally sucks that SciFi Channel has cancelled the show.

Kinda cheesy episode don’t ya think?

We know that Keller and McKay hook-up – and having this little episode to show how their relationship grows in a situation is I guess – necessary.

McKay dropping his work to go save Dr. Keller was noble – and her telling him that she loves him was ‘sweet’.

Overall though a relatively lame episode though and not one that we’re likely to want to watch again for any particular reason.
