Star Trek (2009) out on DVD Nov 17th including a few nifty extra November 4, 2009

startrek J J Abrams Star Trek makes it to the ‘little’ screen on Nov. 17th.

Alongside the movie itself the DVD release will include a few notable outtakes including the deleted Klingon Scene. They don’t quite look like regular klingons to us, but hey close enough. We’ve included the clip below which aired on the Scream 2009 awards a few weeks back.

The other big thing is a featurette called “The Shatner Conundrum” which is all about why Will Shatner didn’t make it into the movie. It’s still the biggest travesty in my opinion and the featurette doesn’t make it any better

Star Trek : Losing the Peace – 1 word review: AWESOME July 14, 2009

losingthepeace The Star Trek Destiny series ripped apart the Star Trek universe leaving billions dead and billions more homeless…

This isn’t a Federation vs SOMEONE ELSE book, this is a Federation against itself book as it tries to deal with massive refugee movements and politics.

At first I was a bit skeptical — but once I got into this book I found it totally engaging. The characters are true – Worf has the right dialogue as does Picard — the author has done a brilliant work capturing the real essence of what always has made TNG work.

The basics of the story were interesting but it is the storytelling and the characters that make this book Awesome.

In a lot of ways, we found this book to be even better than the first Star Trek Destiny fallout book – A Singular Destiny – though that’s a great book too.

We like where the Star Trek universe is heading – this is the rich complexity of environments, characters and plots that only great storytelling and masterful authors can deliver. Losing the peace was great, my only complaint now is what’s next? How many months (years?) will we have to wait until the next great Star Trek TNG book?

Star Trek Titan Over a Torrent Sea : Welcome Tasha Riker-Troi April 4, 2009

51b4vf1ybjl_sl110_ Star Trek Titan Over a Torrent Sea continues the story of Captain Riker’s ship in the post Borg/Destiny era.

Long story short is they find a water world and make a first contact. It’s a well written story but it sure does drag on in the middle section for a long period of time.

There are some interesting sections for sure — notably the birth of Riker and Troi’s child – named Tasha – after Tasha Yaar –

and yes the sexual tension between Riker and the nympho from Pacifica was also kinda neat and something that had been building in the previous Titan books too.

This book was head and shoulders better than the last Titan book which was barely readable but still not as good as any of the first three Titan books (Taking Wing, The Red King and Orion’s Hounds )

Star Trek XI isn’t even in the theatres yet but apparently Star Trek XII is already in the works.

Star Trek XII would be set for a summer of 2011 release.

“There’s obviously a lot of hubris involved in signing on to write a sequel of a movie that hasn’t even come out yet,” Damon Lindelof  told SciFi Wire , co-creator with Abrams of ABC’s Lost who produced the upcoming Trek but did not contribute to Orci and Kurtzman’s screenplay. “But we’re so excited about the first one that we wanted to proceed.”

Majel Barrett Roddenberry – wife of the Star Trek Creator, voice of Star Trek ships old and new, mother of Deanna Troy – has passed away at the age of 76.

According to reports Majel Barrett Roddenberry died Thursday of leukemia at her home in Bel-Air, Calif.

No other person has been involved with Star Trek from its inception in the 60’s all the way to 2009 and the Star Trek XI movie where Majel’s voice will be the voice of the Enterprise yet again.

While nurse chappel was cute it was as Lwaxana Troi that we think she showed her true comedic genious. Everyone that has ever seen Star Trek the Next Generation has a favorite Lwaxana Troi moment. I still crack a grin everytime i think of her calling Worf – Mr Woof.

Ahead of Comic-con which kicks off next week, J.J Abrams is putting out a new teaser poster for Star Trek XI. The Star Trek Movie (startrekmovie.com) site has been updated too, but the only update is the new poster…

kinda lame if you ask us…the new site that its…

but neat to see the first glimpses of the new crew…the one that looks the best is easily Eric Bana who looks like he’s a Darth Maul clone…or maybe he’s just the Klingon Kang (or Koloth?)

Looks like Zachary Quinto – the new Spock for Star Trek XI – is a Star Trek fan.

woohoo.

In an interesting interview on SciFi Wire Quinto reveals that he thinks the new Trek will ‘honor’ classic Trek.

He also almost slips into his Vulcan character during the interview, by referring to the process as being ‘logical’.

“I always do that,” he said. “When I’m going to say the word ‘logical,’ and then I stop myself. There are certain things that I can no longer do with as much ease as I used to. Using the word logical is one of them.”

Sure Wesley Crusher was a bit of a weenie on Star Trek TNG but Wil Wheaton is a cool geek.

He’s also very honest and he’s issued one of the most shocking critiscims of J.J Abrams and his reinvention of Star Trek with Star Trek XI. On his blog Wheaton wrote:

Speaking as a lifelong geek, my knee-jerk reaction when I hear someone talking about “reinventing” something like Trek is that it will be a tower of suck, built out of an endless supply of Jar-Jars and midichlorians.

.. not entirely sure how I feel about the “reinventing.” At least the people who totally fucked Star Trek up aren’t involved, but why does anyone need to “reinvent” Star Trek at all? There’s a good reason it managed to endure through four decades and several generations of Trekkies and casual viewers alike.

Read the full post yourself and let’s all get some money together and get Wil Wheaton to write/direct Star Trek XII : Captain Crusher’s Revenge!

Star Trek XI – NCC-1701 New Enterprise Pic May 8, 2008

Thanks to cineuruguay who commented about this new pic (click on the image to see full screen!!).

This sure look legit and expands on the early NCC-1701 pics that we saw with the first trailer.

The big differences over the classic NCC-1701 are the transparent top covering on the warp nascells as well as the oval covering at the front of the nascells (as opposed to the scoop type from the classic/movie version).

The back part of the main saucer section is also a little different with some kind of groove there for…what? Photon torpedos I guess?

Overall the ship looks a little ‘stubbier’ than the classic or even movie versions of NCC-1701..not sure why they would FRAK with the NCC-1701 that appeared in Star Trek 1-3 but hey…Abrams thinks he’s doing as a favor I guess by redoing the ship and re-writing the Star Trek canon.

Star Trek : The Experience to Close? May 7, 2008

I was just at Star Trek The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton last week. I go each and every time I’m in Las Vegas (about 4 times a year).

The last few times i just go to the store and buy something (more on that in another post) and I always eat at Quarks and always get Klingon Blood Ale (not the wine which sucks).

Klingon Encounter is an experience that now is a bit dated..the screen isn’t great but it’s still fun. Borg 4D is still awesome.

So why would they close it?

Apparently the event operator and the hotel have a contract that expires soon and they haven’t yet renewed it.

Star Trek The Experience is something that MUST NEVER DIE…it should be refreshed from time to time, but it is by far and away my personal salvation in Las Vegas..and I know that i’m not alone. I’ve never been to Quark’s and seen it empty. I always run into fellow fans and always end up in a conversation about an episode that is on the screen.

There is no other place like it on Earth – or even Vegas.

Trekkers Bring Back Animated Trek with Starship Farragut April 22, 2008

It’s been a very long time since anyone has attempted to develop an animated Star Trek series. That’s now about to change with Starship Farragut.

The U.S.S Farragut is a sister ship to the legendary Enterprise commanded by James T. Kirk. The plan is now to have two animated episodes (there have already been a few ‘live action’ episodes).

Episode one, penned by Michael Struck and Jack Treviño (co-writer of two Deep Space Nine episodes), is entitled “The Needs of the Many”. The second episode, “Power Source”, was written by Thomas J. Scott, an accomplished writer and president of Magique Productions, LTD.

“Since opening startrekanimated.com nine years ago, creating a full length episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series has been a dream of mine,” explained Kail Tescar, webmaster of the premiere Star Trek animated series web site startrekanimated.com. “I’ve been having a great time working on this project with NEO f/x and Farragut Films. It’s been a lot of fun helping to create these episodes, and I hope everyone enjoys them.”

HD-DVD Dead – So What Happens To Star Trek? February 22, 2008

Yes we got an HD DVD player just to watch the new Star Trek classic remastered.

Yes we’re p**ssed that Toshiba is ditching us.

I guess this means that CBS will have to put out a Blu-Ray version now…

BUT WAIT!! They can’t! You know why? Because Blu-Ray doesn’t have the same capacity. So you physically can’t put the same FANTASTIC material that’s on the HD-DVD Star Trek remastered onto Blu-Crap.

Once again – as was the case with Beta – the better format has lost and that really sucks.

Lots of Loose Star Trek Action Figures February 8, 2008

‘Lots’ of Star Trek Action Figures (nice pun isn’t it?)

We’re always looking for innovative ways to acquire Star Trek toys. If you actually want to play with the toys (as opposed to just displaying them) – you really need to buy loose figures. They’re usually cheaper and you won’t have to crack open a box to play with them or display them on their own. Buying ‘lots’ is the best way to buy cause you get a bunch of figures at the same time (usually at a lower price than buying figures individually)

This weekend there are a few internet Lots of Loose Star Trek action figures. Here are the interesting ones:

34 figures from Playmates’ Star Trek & Star Trek: The Next Generation line. wow.Bidding only started at $5.99 BUT i figure this one will end up a whole lot higher.

Star Trek TOS & TNG Loose Figure Lot (34 FIGURES!)

Here’s another one for 15 figures in a mix lot of classic and Next Generation figures. This one also started off at $5.

I would also expect that this one will end up a little higher than $5 but we’ll see. An interesting mix of figures for sure.

Some sellers are starting their loose lots at a higher $$ value. This seller is selling only 8 figures but is starting their auction at $15.

There always seem to a bunch of loose star trek lots..though quality and pricing (as always) vary from week to week. We’ve created a few simple links to help you (and ourselves too) out for finding this stuff:

Paramount Cancels Star Trek XI Webmaster Point Program February 8, 2008

ShowMeSciFi.com is excited as any website out there for the upcoming Star Trek XI movie. That’s why we signed up for the Star Trek XI webmaster program from Paramount – the general idea was that for each click you generate, Paramount would tally them up and do something nice for you.

After just a few short weeks – Paramount HAS CANCELED THE POINTS PROGRAM.

Q: What happened to the points system?
A: Due to click fraud and to make use of the Webmaster Program easier on users we have eliminated this points system. Nothing else relating to the program has changed. Please just point all links to the official site. If you have questions please direct them to us in the forums.

Click fraud? are you kidding me?? Other webmasters are that desperate??? Paramount is so incapable that they can’t properly measure clicks? KHAAAAAAAAN!

Star Trek XI : Kobayashi Maru – Will we finally see Kirk’s solution? January 30, 2008

Though J.J Abrams has given up some details about Star Trek XI, some key elements are still ‘officially’ unknown.

HOWEVER – since we know this will include the early days of Kirk before he takes command of NCC-1701 – ShowMeSciFi.com is going to go out on a limb and state:

“In Star Trek XI we will finally see James T. Kirk take the Kobayahsi Maru test at Starfleet Academy.”

For years, we the fans have wondered exactly what Kirk did to pass that critical Starfleet examination (we know he ‘cheated’ or changed the rules as he says) – it will be MONUMENTAL to finally see the actual scene. The Kobayashi Maru is a defining test in a Starfleet officer’s career , presenting trainees with an impossible scenario and seeing how they respond.

As a refresher check out the first theatrical mention of the Kobayashi Maru in a STar Trek movie.

YUP. Looks like Paramount isn’t just doing a one off with Star Trek XI which could be a good thing if the movie is any good.

In an interview with IGN , Anton Yelchin (playing Checkov) said that he had been signed on for three movies.

That clearly means Paramount is serious about this new Trek and is ensuring that if it is successful that they can milk the cast for everything they can.

And hey it also opens up the opporunity for Shatner to make an appearance in Star Trek XII or XIII!

ds9.jpg

For whatever reason we had the sudden urge to find some Star Trek Deep Space Nine (DS9) toys. Likely it’s because when I looked at the shelf I suddenly realized that DS9 is poorly represented in the collection. But hey here at ShowMeSciFi.com we don’t buy stuff without first seeing what market is like so..

How about a (semi) complete DS9 Playmates Action Figure set?

Set Includes: Dax, Dr Bashir, Odo, Chief O’Brien, Jake Sisko, Mr Worf, Nog, Morn, Gul Dukaat, Garak and Q

The auction on this closed today for only…get this $20.49 – check it out for yourself Star Trek DS9 Complete Playmate Action Figure Set

But look closing soon is another auction and it may well be cheaper and offer better value too.
1993 Playmates Star Trek Deep Space Nine DS9 – Set of 9 Currently the bid on this set is only $8.98, all the toys are in boxes and it includes
COMMANDER BENJAMIN SISKO. ODO, QUARK, CHIEF MILES O’BRIEN, LIEUTENANT JADZIA DAX (RARE), MAJOR KIRA NERYS (RARE), COMMANDER GUL DUKAT , DR. JULIAN BASHIR
and MORN. ** UPDATE** This auction closed at $10.50 !! (what a deal!!)

Now auctions come and go so it’s hard to see what will be available when ..but if you’re willing to pay a set price you can try and cobble together a decent little collection from eBay Stores too. Hard to say if it’s always more money – though it might be – but hey some of these toys are hard to find. Check out – All Deep Space Nine Playmates toys on eBay Stores for youself and good luck!

No James Doohan’s son won’t have the role of Scotty in Star Trek XI but he will have a role.

According to an interview he did with TrekMovie the younger Doohan isn’t quite sure of his role ..yet

At this point, I’m tentatively scheduled to go in later next week to film, but, like James Cawley, I still don’t know exactly what I’m going to do. I can tell you that my father would be happy with my position on the ship.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAwww isn’t that nice. Now why can’t they find a spot for Shatner!!!

New Star Trek XI Starfleet Uniform January 24, 2008

Until now most Starfleet Uniforms have been military yet not militaristic (if you know what I mean

Sure in ‘Yesterday’s Enterprise’ we saw a stiffer collar as the Federation battled the Klingons but…

Star Trek XI is going the Imperial route..or so it would seem.

JFXonline has posted some intriguing pics of the new Starfleet uniform.

It really does look like a knock off from Star Wars Imperial wardrobe with the hat and all.

Never before have we seen Starfleet personnel with hat as part of the Uniform. It also looks like they’re tossing out the oh-so-hip shirt look off the classic series and the vested look of the early Star Trek movies too.

Too early to say what this is all about..but one thing is for sure – J.J Abrams is messing with alot of stuff.
