Battlestar Galactica Finale – What The Frak Was That? Starbuck an angel? Let’s fly all our ships into the sun? March 21, 2009

After all the excitement – 6 years of TV dating back to the original mini-series in 2003. This is how it ends.
Starbuck isn’t a Cylon – she’s an ‘angel’? what was her ship that came back then?
The first hour of this show Season 4 Episode 20 Daybreak (Daybreak, Part 3) was great – the assault on the Cylon colony – centurions fighting centurions classic and new…guns blazing in all out slaughter.
The deal with Cavel – also brilliant..as was Tyrol going nuts when he realized who killed Calli that was all neat up until they jumped away.
Then the show went right to hell.
Lets fly all our ships into the sun because technology is bad?? WHAT THE FRAK IS THAT.
(yes it was cool to hear the classic Battlestar Galactica theme though as the ships sailed into the sun though).
The visions of Caprica and Baltar were just angels too? I’m not sure about that.
The whole idea that the Galactica’s crew then goes on 150,000 years later to help seed humanity on Earth — that was kinda neat and it was neat to see Ron Moore at the newsstand in New York City.
This is it? Really?
So yes there were some redeeming moments to this series finale for sure. Yes it did try and tie up as many loose ends as possible. But it was in our view still somewhat disappointing.
Battlestar Galactica in this new creation has always tried to take a high moral ground and be about more than just science fiction. But to say that technology is the root of evil is just wrong. For the colonists to give up their ships and technology entirely makes no sense. For Starbuck to just be an ‘angel’ makes no sense.
Of all the great BattleStar Galactica episodes – and there have been some 80 hours of it at this point – this is not Galactica’s finest hour. Not by a long shot.
It’s a mediocre and unsatisfying end to a magnificent series.
We will miss you Galactica and we will remember the good times, the great times, the fantastic characters and scenarios and we will be grateful. It will be hard for anyone to ever replace you.
SO SAY WE ALL.

Daybreak, Part 1 – what we are calling Season 5 Episode 9 (SciFi calls is Season 4 Episode 19) The second last episode ever of Battlestar Galactica was all about setup for the final and ultimate showdown.
Instead of Galactica going out with a whimper she will go out with a bang.
Instead of limping away to try and find a hiding spot for humanity.. Galactica will make one last attack against the Cylons.
It is as it should be.
The show will end will on big final battle to end all battles between the Cylons and the Humans and Galactica will go out in a blaze of glory with her guns firing into the Cylon beast.
Just awesome.
Not so sure about all the Caprica flashbacks in this episode – neat to see that Caprica 6 cared about Gaius’s dad..the other stuff…not so sure.
The red line across the dead was a brilliant dramatic angle for sure too.
And when did Tyrol end in lock-up? sure he belonged there but…
Hard to believe that after all these years we’re almost at the end – even harder to believe that the end WASN’T Earth but is something else…likely the death of the Battlestar Galactica itself and everyone on it.

After some 80 episodes of Battlestar Galactica we
‘ve come to a conclusion –
EVERYONE IS A FRAKKING CYLON.
The first three seasons we spent trying to find you who the cylons were…
We thought we had them all until Season 4 rolled around and we found about the final five.
Then we find all the final five but we still have other – cylons don’t we?
Starbuck for one right?
Then is Season 4 episode 18 Islanded in a Stream of Stars Roslyn has the dream with Hera in it again ..
Is President Roslyn a Cylon too then?
Going even deeper, Baltar calling out Starbuck as an ‘angel’ ..maybe Baltar is right?! Maybe all the colonies were in fact cylons and all can be resurrected somehow.
Maybe there is another planet that they’ll find at the end of the series in which all those that we thought were lost will be found again.

Isn’t the captain (in this case the admiral) supposed to go down with the ship?
What we’re calling Battlestar Galactica Season 5 episode 8 (SciFi calls this Season 4 episode 18 Islanded in a Stream of Stars
.. ) was another setup episode …we see the secret base colony that the Cylons have.
We still don’t know what Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace is, but now we know for sure that the ship on Earth with her dogtags was her – so somehow she was resurrected – with a resurrected ship too.
What about the dreams that Roslyn, Athena and Starbuck are all having and how are they linked? Is Roslyn some kind of Cylon hybrid just like Starbuck too?
With only a few episodes left until the final episode the building up is just amazing…

We’ve been saying here on ShowMeSciFi.com since January of 2007 that Starbuck is a Cylon. After watching episode 17 of Season 4 Someone to Watch Over Me ..we’re now as confident as ever that we were right!!
Starbuck’s Dad the piano player – was Daniel the Cylon. has to be..we know Daniel was more artistic and we know that his line got boxed which is why he never came back.
We learned about Daniel in episode 15 (called No Exit). This is what we here at ShowMeSciFi.com predicted last year – the FINAL FINAL Cylon is Daniel Graystone set to played by actor Eric Stolz in the upcoming Caprica prequel.
It all adds up now doesn’t it?
Hera isn’t the only half-breed. Kara is the same.
How Kara will lead humanity to their doom? Guess that was Earth…

Battlestar Galactica Season 5 episode 7 (SciFi calls this season 4 episode 17 Someone to Watch Over Me
We thought Sharon Valeri – BOOMER – was actually good! that she had turned a new leaf..
even at the end of her life when she got shot by cali – it was just that there was one thing that she had no control over – so she shot Adama –
No such luck. Boomer is a baby stealing Bitch.
And poor Cheif Tyrol he has to go through the grief again and this time he helped her..and now Galactica is toast the ship will not hold together.
Will he tell Adama what happened? We think so – he’s an honest cylon but who else can keep Galactica together?
Ohh and Starbuck!! Her Dad was a Cylon then right? How else could that song trigger such a result?
Kara Thrace IS a Cylon – Human half breed she’s gotta be. Daniel the missing number 7 cylon has to be her father.

Battlestar Galactica Season 5 episode 6 (SciFi calls this season 4 episode 16 Deadlock
) Hera is the savior of both the human and cylon races.
There is no other.
We’ve been guessing for years that Hera would be the savior and now there is little doubt that is the way it will be.
No this episode did not have the stunning revelations of the last episode – No Exit – but we do have some stunning developments.
Finally Baltar is relevant again – and for the first time in YEARS he has Caprica in his head again! Baltar was one of our favorite characters in the first three seasons – then he became less interesting – but now as the show winds down HE’S BACK.
Will the cylon goop end up busting Galactica? I sure think so…
Will the Cylon’s jump away? Not likely but before the end the other Cylons will jump back in for a massive battle royale the likes of which we have never seen.
Where cylons fight cylons and humans.
Deadlock

The last episode of BSG is a two hour special set to air on March 20th at 9 pm.
If you’re a REAL fan the show will actually start at 8 pm with a replay of the March 13th episode – so you could get 3 hrs in for a full FINALE.
What will happen? I don’t know for sure but here’s my speculation.
1) BSG 75 – the old Battlestar Galactica itself will be destroyed…all those hole in her will just peel things apart.
2) We will finally learn what Kara Thrace is- which is the first human/cylon hybrid conceived by Ellen and Daniel (the #7) and/or Saul. So Kara is their baby.
3) Adama will go down with his ship and Roslyn will be at his side.
4) There will be one less GREAT FRAKKIN SHOW TO WATCH and all of us will miss the show forever after.
SO SAY WE ALL
(oh and hey if you’ve missed episode – they won’t all be out on DVD for months but if you haven’t seen the new episodes you can pick them up on Amazon now too Battlestar Galactica season 5 aka season 4.5

Our full review of the No Exit episode touches on the plot of this awesome episode – but the intro deserves its own special mention…enjoy.

This has all happened before and it will happen again.
We got more insight into the Cylon in this one episode than we’ve had in the previous 4.5 years!!
Sure we knew Ellen Tigh was the Fifth but we didn’t know that the final five were actually the FRAKKIN creators of the hybrid human cylons! wow did not see that coming.
Between Eillen and John filling us in and Anders remembering on the other side – we get a near final picture.
And there is another.. An 11th cylon model – technically number 7 called Daniel.
This is what we here at ShowMeSciFi.com predicted last year – the FINAL FINAL Cylon is Daniel Graystone set to played by actor Eric Stolz in the upcoming Caprica prequel. How’s that for bringing things full circle!?
Sure we still don’t know what Kara Thrace is..
and we don’t know where Eillen went – likely her ‘research colony’ – but with five episode left we’re finally researching an ultimate conclusion that should be mind frakkin awesome…
and who want to bet that Galactica itself won’t survive?
(oh and John ‘I’m a PC’ Hodgeman lobotomized Anders – should’ve got a Mac to do the job !)

Battlestar Galactica Season 5 Episode 4 (SciFi calls this Season 4 episode 14) “Blood on the Scales” was one of the best – if not THE BEST Battlestar Galactica episodes EVER.
We don’t know who will get shot, who will live and who will die. Who is in charge? Will they jump? Will they not jump?
From beginning till the end this episode kept us guessing on all those questions.
At first we were certain Adama, Tigh or Rosyln would get toasted, but that didn’t happen.
Zarek issueing the order to kill the whole quarom – WOW…
Roslyn’s argument to fight no matter what…
and the people all those people on Galactica who
tried to follow their conscience whether that meant following Gaeta or Adama.
Felix Gaeta is truly the great tragic hero of this show. Unlike Zarek he is not evil. Unlike Baltar he didn’t betray his people to the Cylons .
Gaeta from beginning till the end really always tried to do the right thing, whether it was helping the resistance on New Caprica, plotting the right jump point or overthrowing Adama because he didn’t want they Cylons to run the fleet.
Gaeta wasn’t evil he wasn’t thirsty for power – only for justice.
The final scenes of this episode were awesome – Gaeta telling Baltar of his youth and then finally the pain subsiding in his lost leg.
While it was inevitable that Gaeta would die once Adama retook control, it was also a sad ending to a noble and brave character. It’s unfortunate that we didn’t get to hear Gaeta sing again before dying and this site for one will miss him.
Rest in Peace Felix Gaeta. Rest in peace.
SO SAY WE ALL.

Third episode of what we think should be Season 5 (SciFi calls it Season 4 episode 13) was one awesome episode.
Called the Oath – clearly both sides think they’re upholding their Oath to the Colonial Fleet. The dept of Felix Gaeta’s mutiny is astounding he’s got the majority of Galactica (but not his boyfriend?!) on board.
Sure he didn’t shoot Adama, but Gaeta is a nice guy — or at least he was until he ordered the outgoing Raptor destroyed.
The Oath
Someone is gonna die there, will it be the Raptor team? or will it Be Tight? Or will Admiral Adama be toasted???
My bet is the raptor with all hands lost.
It’s sad that after everything that’s happened humans are turning against humans again. Innocent people are getting killed and all for what? Just because they don’t trust the Cylons?? That is a big issue and hey if i was on Galactica, personally I’d probably side with Gaeta too.
After the setup of the last episode – this episode is only part of the payoff.. i suspect that this mutiny will carry us forward right till the final episode.

Second episode of what we’re calling Season 5 (scifi channel is calling it season 4 episode 11) – and we’ve got the making of (yet another) full scale human mutiny.
We’ve had human mutiny before in this show – but this time will be a little different.
Now we’ve got Cylon’s fighting Cylons, Humans fighting humans and you need a score card to figure who is one what side.
And what’s the deal with Calli and Tyrol’s baby?!!! woops sorry Chief you’re not the dad! Hot Dog is the dad and calli was a slut – too bad for you.
What happened to Baltar!!! For the first few seasons he was one of our favorite characters – now he just plain sucks. He doesn’t have visions of Six anymore (and she doesn’t have visions of him) he doesn’t even talk to six. That’s just stoopid and negates three plus years of plot development.
One thing is for sure though – with the (yet another) mutiny on tap we’re in for a whole lot more action in the final 8 episodes of Battlestar Galactica. No doubt Ellen Tigh will be pissed too when she comes back to find Saul with Six and a new cylon baby.

Apparently scammers don’t know Battlestar Galactica…
Awesomely funny post over on SciFi.com detailing how a dude (a BSG fan) posted an ad on Craigslist for an item he was selling. He was asking for a certain amount, but got responses from a few scammers who ended up sending a lot more. The scam being that the dude would cash the check and send the difference back to the scammers (before the check is invalidated).
Trick is the dude asked for the payments to be made in the name of Battlestar Galactica characters – too much!!

Anastasia “Dee” Dualla (Kandyse McClure) is not happy that she got carted off Battlestar Galactica in a body bag.
She didn’t get an invite to the wrap party for the show either and the producers weren’t exactly as up front with her as they could have been when they told her that she was toast.
McClure (Dee) has a great answer that she gave to SciFi wire:
How and when did you know what was in store for Dee?
McClure: Ummmm, how do I be politically correct about this? They didn’t quite … I got a first inkling when there were contract renegotiations, and there were only 13 [episodes] on the table. So I got kind of a clue then, because I was sure there’d be more than 13 episodes in the last season. And even then it was a bit vague. [Later,] I read the script in the hair and makeup trailer, and then very soon afterward I got a call from [executive producer] Ron Moore. He said lovely things. “This is the final season, and we’re bringing a lot of storylines to their close,” and this was part of a bigger plan they had for where the storyline was going. They said they’d enjoyed my work and it had nothing to do with that.

First new episode since June of 2008 and it was FRAKIN awesome –
Technically season 4 episode 11 (but after six months off gimme a break it’s Season 5 episode 1).
We did not see Dee’s death – that was soo sudden.
We’ve been saying for the past two years that Starbuck is a Cylon. So now we’ll say it again – Starbuck is a Cylon – isn’t she?
But what’s the deal with the rest of Earth?
Were they all really Cylons? Is Ellen Tigh really the fifth? It makes no sense.
The Cylons claimed they tested all the recovered bones on Earth and they all came up Cylon – does that mean that Earth was itself a planet full of cylons and there are actually Billions of Cylon models?

Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica days may be numbered but it doesn’t look like he’s a golden boy for everything.
FOX apparently is pushing back on Moore’s Virtuality show that we first wrote about back in April. Basically its a ship in long duration flight – with a crew have virtual reality experiences throughout the journey.
According to the Hollywood Reporter:
The two-hour backdoor sci-fi pilot “Virtuality,” might stay in consideration for May and be reworked as a more mainstream drama.
Remember friends – this is FOX. The same network that killed Firefly and is now butchering Sarah Connor Chronicles…so i suppose we didn’t have much cause to be hopeful in the first place.

Ok so maybe we were a little hasty in calling Caprica dead the other week.
Sci Fi channel has now ordered 20 hours of the Battlestar Galactica prequel. Originally it was supposed to have a pilot this month but now it looks like that pilot will show up sometime in 2009 with the full series likely to debut in 2010.
The pilot trailer looks like frakking crap to me – but hey with 20 hours now booked – maybe they can build this up and actually make this as cool as BSG itself.
Set 50 years before “Battlestar Galactica,” “Caprica” follows two rival families — the Graystones and the Adamas — as they grow, compete, and thrive in the vibrant world of the 12 Colonies, a society recognizably close to our own. Enmeshed in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons, the two houses go toe-to-toe blending action with corporate conspiracy and sexual politics. “Caprica” will deliver all of the passion, intrigue, political backbiting and family conflict in television’s first science fiction family saga. As the series begins, a startling development is about to occur — the creation of the first cybernetic life-form node or “Cylon” — the ability to marry artificial intelligence with mechanical bodies. Joseph Adama (Morales) — father of future “Battlestar” commander William Adama (Najafi) — a renowned civil liberties lawyer, becomes an opponent of the experiments undertaken by the Graystones (Stoltz), owners of a large computer corporation that is spearheading the development of these living robots: the Cylons.
