The second issue of Galaxy Quest from IDW is out and unfortunately it’s not as good as the first one —
This whole issue is about the back story – how we got to the point our heroes were at in the first issue..
To be fair it’s good solid stuff that needs to be told – like what happened immediately after the Protector crashed into the fan convention? How did the show get picked up again?
Still we’re always looking for an advancing plot and that’s likely what the next 2 issues should be all about…we have yet to see the new bad guys but we do know that our heroes will…
NEVER SURRENDER.

Darth Wyyrlok is one mean Sith dude.
We haven’t seen much of him to date but this issue changes that with an entire issue dedicated to him and what an issue it is!
Darth Wyyrlok proves he is more powerful than an Ancient Sith using the Force alone – awesome!!
We also learn of his unwavering loyalty towards Darth Krayt which no doubt will also play a role as the story progresses…Oh and hey Darth Talon (aka The Sith HOttie) isn’t dead and is coming back!!
All this and next issue Vector finally hits its stretch run finding it’s finale in the best Star Wars series ever created…should be a real rush.

So Celeste Morne finally gets rid of the Talisman and then…
WHAT WHAT WHAT???
She fights to get it back?
Then she just flies off ..into the galaxy? To be found again in 137 years when next we see her in Legacy??
HUh?
Vector has been decent thus far but this recent issue just doesn’t make sense.
It’s just – ok lets throw Luke Skywalker in there for an issue and then move on. It’s really kinda lame and frankly we the readers deserve more.
Let’s hope that somehow the Star Wars Legacy writers can set things straight and really provide us with a real BANG for the finale of Vector.

Galaxy Quest (the movie) is now ‘classic’ SciFi movie stuff..but though the movie did well in the theater it never got a sequel (or even a prequel). That changes now thanks to comic book publisher IDW and the new Galaxy Quest Global Warning series.
First off this is great stuff and if you’re a fan of the movie you must buy this comic.
The storyline is simple enough, the series (after the events of the movie) is getting picked up again by the networks, but just as that’s about to happen a ship appears over Earth…
The pacing and dialogue of this comic match the movie perfectly. The artwork is the weak link but it’s easily forgivable once you get past the first few pages. A thoroughly enjoyable romp and one that we’ll be eagerly waiting for the next issue on..
Don’t remember Galaxy Quest (the movie)…the trailer has some of the best parts…

It’s been years since last I heard the name Buckaroo Banzai (remember the 80’s flic with Peter Weller?) and now he’s back…well at least as a comic book hero.
Moonstone which is a publisher i’ve never heard of before has picked up Buckaroo Banzai for this 2 issue micro series prequel. The art is very weak in this book and the first issue ends abruptly without even an ..To Be Continued.. when we’re at the final frame.
The basics of the story are alright giving us insight into the man that Buckaroo is (prior to the movie) and his time challenge to figure out how to enter the eighth dimension while still being a rock star.
If this publisher picked up some real art talent this comic would likely be far more appealing. As it is, I’ll likely buy the second issue just because but it is extremely unlikely that we will ever review another Moonstone title, the artwork is just that bad.
Then again the original movie was really campy cheesy stuff too..check out the trailer below for a reminder…aaaaaaaaaaaah the 80’s…

Or should we say Darth Hazen?
All this time he’s been the Evil Dark Jedi pulling all the strings..or so it would seem and I don’t recall seeing him ever in the past 31 issues (or maybe I’m missing something??)
But Jedi on Jedi battles?
AWEsome
fULL out Jedi Mutiny/Rebellion – awesome
This series is now researching its climax — once this arc is over i wonder how it will ever be able to continue.

So Vector now hits Rebellion and Luke Skywalker..and it looks like fun…
Vader left Celeste Morne (and Vector) 20 years ago (in the timeline) in Dark Times # 12 apparently Celeste is still alive and Vader hasn’t forgotten about her either.
Will Luke – see the good in Celeste and turn her back from the Dark Side?
i guess we’ll find out…we can assume that Luke survives as does Celeste..but how Celeste gets frozen to survive till her next jump – the Star Wars Legacy era…we’ll have to wait till Rebellion #16 to find out.
So far – 7 issues into Vector we’ve had numerous confrontations and the timelines between eras has been stitched together reasonably well..with five issues or so left to go.

Good news Firefly/Serenity Fans! You don’t have to pay Dark Horse for the newest iteration of the Serenity comic..you can get if for free — online.
Serenity The Other Half is available for free on Dark Horse’s MySpace preview page it’s a short little story..but still entertaining.
Gorram Reaver are chasin Cap’n Mal and his pal who are tyring to deliver some human cargo..but River’s got a bad feeling about the dude…
In typical Serenity fashion, no one is really quite happy in the end.
No this isn’t quite as good as say Serenity Better Days but it is Firefly and it’s a good (short) read. There should be another Serenity full series out soon from Dark Horse though and we can hardly wait..

Finally after two and half years, Zayne Carrick if finally closing in on the last of the frakkers that framed him.
This is a fine plot moving issue but the real fun that we’ve all been waiting for since this whole series started is coming in the next issue..when Carrick will hopefully finally expose and end the covenant and finally clear his name!
Zayne Carrick, a fugitive Padawan accused of the murder of his fellow students, is on his way to the authorities in hope of clearing his name, shedding light on the Jedi Masters who framed him, and revealing the covert order to which they belong. But reaching the right people without facing off against his former masters is proving to be more difficult than Zayne imagined! Success is going to require help from every true friend Zayne has garnered in his long quest for justice.

It’s entirely predictable and really isn’t a solid ending to this story which overall showed hints of greatness but never really matured.
We learned in issue #4 that there was a parallel universe thing going on and all this issue did was take that revelation to its logical conclusion — back through the rift that they came from.
Sure they destroyed the Paradox..but who didn’t see that coming?
When we first picked up this series at Issue #1 we had our doubts but were still hopeful…unfortunately that hope in this series was a little misplaced.
In general ShowMeSciFi.com has not reviewed Star Trek comics (from IDW) and it would seem unlikely after this disappointing series that we ever will again..but hey you never know and the over-rated Peter David is no doubt to blame for this epic failure.

Alrighty so the Jedi council didn’t authorize Cade to go kill Darth Krayt..boo hoo…
It doesn’t make much difference for our story does it?
Now we’ve got a Cade and his posse of well wishers and watcher joining him in his own crusade to take on Darth Krayt.
Still not a whole lot of good stuff on the Princess in this issue, she seems very remote and not nearly as personable as she was inside of the first ten issues….i wonder what happened..
It’s also been a while since we’ve seen the Galactic Alliance proper…so hopefull we’ll seen them soon too and end up with new super alliance with Fel, Cade and friends and the GA against Krayt.

So Finally we’ve reached the fifth and final issue of this second Dark Tower series.
This series was not like the first – it lacked the plot progression and the drama of the first.
Sure the art was spellbounding to say the least…but after reading this series for 5 issues what really happens?
For this entire series until this final issue Roland is stuck in the grapefruit talking with the Crismon King.
Yes it’s solid plot development stuff but in a five issue series it wasn’t enough. In our review for issue #4 last month we wrote that it was obvious what would happen next.
Roland comes home with his ka-tet. hurray.
This five issue story arc would have worked well inside of a larger story – which ultimately is what it will be as the next Dark Tower series is set to begin this September.
Let’s hope it packs more action and movement than this one…

What a great ending to this story arc… i frankly didn’t expect Deena Shan to survive but i’m glad that she did.
She really showed her strength in the last issue and this issue it all really comes together – the Rebellion wins a small victory indeed.
Amazing really how this story came together with the rebels getting stuck at the fuelling station, getting stuck and then ending up blowing the whole thing up – without everyone dying in the process.
Next issue Vector comes to Rebellion – i wonder who will face off against Celeste Morne and the Muir Talisman..

Vader faces off against the Muir talisman and what?!!!
He runs away??
Nuts.
Decent ending to a nice story arc.
He’s trying to undermine Palpatine? I guess that’s the entre to the Secret Apprentice in the Force Unleashed..
but
Crys…oh poort Chrys
This is a dark comic book overall as we’ve reported before..characters..good characters die and their families live on so we can see the grief.
Dark Times indeed.
Now for Vector the series moves to Rebellion for Luke Skywalker to deal with. So far in six issues of Vector the story has been ..ho hum..not bad but not terribly exciting either.
As for Dark Times no more issues till 2009!!!

Continuing the march toward final vindication for Zayne is what this issue is all about.
The net on the covenant is closing with Zayne picking up more pieces of evidence and allies along the way…
A fun ending for the Exalted story arc
it’s a bit of a slower process than I personally would like but it’s all goood.
Zayne Carrick faces off against one of the Jedi Masters who framed him for the murder of his fellow Padawans in this shocking conclusion to “Exalted”!
When Zayne and his con-artist companion Gryph decided to risk it all in an attempt to prove Zayne’s innocence, they never expected a consequence for failure quite like this! Their plans ruined and their future bleak, Zayne and Gryph need to act fast or the history and traditions of an entire world could fall victim to another display of madness by the secret Jedi Covenant!

Last time Cade saw the Princess Fel he was saving her from the Sith.
Now what — a year later he finally sees her again and there is no emotion at all. Seemed a bit odd.
Cade coming to the hidden Jedi Temple however is very cool great to see the Jedi still have an organized home of some sort and that maybe they’ll send out a hit squad to Kill Darth Krayt.
The issue with the Jedi that ‘killed’ Cade’s pal’s dad is going to be interesting to see how it plays out…
but the big thing of course is the coming three way alliance between Jedi, Imperial Knights and the Galactic Alliance against the Sith.
This series never disappoints and i’m wonderng how the big alliance will be impacted by Vector and the Muir Talisman when it hits them later this year.

Sheemie is going to save Roland??!
Get outta here.
This is how you know this is not Stephen King but another writer…or maybe I’m wrong…
Another solid story overall as the bipolar plot line continues with Roland still stuck in the sphere and the rest of the ka-tet outside fighting off the wolves…
Art as always is solid – if not disturbing.
Only one more to go and it’s painfully obvious what will happen (or is it?) should be another real keep and we can hardly wait.

Yeaaah I know we wrote that the last issue didn’t make any sense (so why would we continue to buy this title right?)..bUT hey there is only so much SciFi on the comic book shelves these days and I want to support my local retailer.
That said Star Trek New Frontier #3 is a decent issue….the plot twists thicken as we learn that Admiral Jelico isn’t quite who he seems to be…we don’t see Shelby at all in this issue (a good thing)..but we do get some humor..from the Romulans of all places
The overall content per issue ..the bang for the buck..is still sorely lacking, but for now I’m hooked on Star Trek New Frontier and i’lll be reading till the end of the series to see where it goes.

Dark Times enters Vector with the best artist in the Star Wars Universe Doug Wheatley.
Vader comes into possession of the living coffin that Zayne left Celeste in…The way that Wheatley draws Celeste is VASTLY superior to the cartoon bitch she was in Knights of the Old Republic. She’s not a cartoon character she’s ‘real’ and so is her anger.
Celesete wakes up ready to fulfill her goal of eliminating the Sith ..by taking on Vader. I’m not sure how Bomo and his band of friends will fit in…but the Vader angle is slick.
Vader has little or no relationship with the ancient Sith at this point so this might be an interesting part of his further exploration of his Sith legacy.
It’ll also be interesting to see how they get rid of Celeste or the Talisman this time around…

wow…Dark Horse has really cranked up KOTOR lately …sure the Vector storyline that concluded in the last issue was tremendous — but this new story arc looks pretty cool too.
After all Zayne is finally going after the Covenant.
The only problem -AND ITS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THIS KRIFING SERIES IS THE ART – Zayne is drawn completely differently but i’m kinda used to that..
But Jarael?? She is unrecognizable.
Doesn’t anyone have a style guide at Dark Horse? Is there no quality control?
Inconsistent character art aside – a great start to what will hopefully be the final resolution of Zayne and the Covenant’s attempt to pin the Padawan murders on him.
