Ok – we knew this was coming (and yeah we have the Dark Horse comic waiting to be read too) and sure we’ve been a little behind on the Clone Wars animated series lately too…
but wow.
this new trailer for a special director’s cut of the Return of Darth Maul (Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season Four) sends goosebumps down all Sith spawn loving spines. Maul was the only good thing in the prequels and now he’s back and oh yeah he faces Obi-Wan Kenobi too (the dude that chopped him in two).
Brilliant stuff and yet another reason why we’ll be spending the next few weeks catching up on the great show that is Star Wars The Clone Wars.

Long time readers of ShowMeSciFi.com know that we have no love lost for the Star Trek Enterprise show.
It wasn’t a good show (for the most part, though it did have some great moments). The Mirror Universe episode of course was awesome as was the cameo when Cmrd Riker (J.Frakes) came on board too. There could have been one other cameo that would have given that show another awesome moment.
William Shatner making an appearance as Capt Kirk. Wouldn’t that have made sense in the Mirror Universe episode? Especially since they capture the NCC-1701 from the future, which should have been Kirk’s ship?
According to Brannon Braga – it could have happened.
He tells this tale in a recent interview:
The only crossover that was exciting was there was a brief time when we were going to put Captain Kirk on Enterprise, and we even met with William Shatner, but it just never happened. We had some story concocted about why Kirk was there and how he got there. I don’t remember. I think Shatner had a pitch. It was actually going to be a pretty cool two-part episode. I don’t know exactly what happened. It might have been that we couldn’t make a deal with Shatner or something like that.

Ok we’ve got a name for Star Trek 2 (reboot). No it’s not the Wrath of Khan, thought he original Star Trek II remains the best of all Trek films.
The name is
Star Trek Into Darkness.
Let’s all hope that the Darkness include some Klingons this time…the release version of Star Trek was missing them…
At this point, all of the principal photgraphy for Star Trek Into Darkness has been completed and the film is in Post Production.
Star Trek Into Darkness is set to be released on May 17, 2013.

Yeaah we know that Planet 51 was out in the theatre a couple years ago, but we never got around to watching it, till last night.
That’s the magic of Netflix, somehow that movie surfaced into our ‘Top 10’ so we figured..why not?
it’s an interesting spin on the Alien Invasion theme, nothing too heavy, a few laughs and an ok way to spend an hour or so. It’s not a cult classic and not likely something we’ll ever watch more than once though….

The first episode of Doctor Who season 7 Asylum of the Daleks
by all account is a massive win for the Doctor Who franchise.
According to Entertainment Weekly:
The Saturday telecast was seen by 1.6 million viewers, which is both a time period high and a series best for the show since it started airing on the network in 2009.
Always a good sign when a new season starts off well…

Ok we thought the first book in this series – Plagues of Night – was a little slow. This book is wall to wall, cover to cover excitement making this an awesome read.
DS9 as we know it is no more.
WOW.
The head of the Tal Shi’ar imprisoned and the Alpha Quadrant cutoff from the Gamma.
WOW.
The pure size of the plot shifts that happen in this book are massive and a delight to this Star Trek fan. No shortage of action or drama in this brilliantly crafted and written book – Highly recommended (but read Plagues of Night first!)

We used to love Chad Vader.
The first season was pure awesome – as our Fav Sith’s (brother?) made his way through life as the night shift manager at Empire Food Market.
second season was also fun.
third season mostly sucked – and that was almost two years ago. since then – no chad vader.
Guess What? Chad is coming back. After a two year hiatus Blame Society Films is bringing him back starting on June 12th for a five episode run. We couldn’t be more excited.
And just for old times sake – here’s a link from our fav Chad Vader episode – Episode 6 from all the way back in 2007.

After that first issue we *almost* thought that Boba rly did get toasted.
He is after a clone, and hey lots of his brothers are around.
Now in this issue we get the real story – what happened and how his nice Mando’a helmet had a blaster bolt through it.
No surprise that Boba is going to use his half-brother to help him out, but what was a great surprise was seeing Sintas Vel.
that’s right – Sintas Vel, the woman that Boba Fett (in the books) has a child with. We can’t recall seeing sintas so beautifully drawn – errr painted as she has been in this issue.
Now the real hunt is one as we’ll find out how Boba can track down his own killers. No we don’t really care why they wanted to kill Boba, he is after all a bounty hunter so no doubt he has a lot of marks on his head.
The relationship between Boba and Connor Freeman (his half-brother) is interesting though. As it should be right? That’s what — Blood Ties – is all about.

We all know Darth Vader to be a menace. But what we get in this new series is something a big …different.
This first issue is pure genius.
We get our young Imperial Officer just graduating as the core character, we see the Empire through his eyes .
And we see Vader through his eyes — and it’s an awesome sight. In the midst of Chaos it is Vader that restores order. In the midst of rebellion it is vader that stands up to put his lightsaber through those that would oppose him.
This is the Dark Lord of the Sith as he should be – as an instrument of the Empire.

The whole Knights of the Old Republic: War series was interesting for a few reasons.
It was neat to see Jedi aligned with the Mandalorians and it was great to see Zayne Carrick not being the ‘bad guy’.
We got to see a different side of Zayne in this series — Zayne the hero and it was a side that we sure enjoyed.
This final issue was easily the best in this mini-arc as the story came together. Jedi can’t be Mando’a after and
Zayne proved that you
CAN GO HOME AGAIN.
Finally.
Isn’t that what he was just trying to do in the very first issue of this series? go home see his family and his girlfriend?

Apparently Ridley Scott is have a resurrection of sorts.
Next month we get the Alien Prequel Promtheus and now in a year — or two, we’re getting a Blade Runner sequel.
Is this a world with replicants gone mad? a world with replicant rights? or will we just see a replication defecate on the tomb of Dekker?

Read the press release below:
LOS ANGELES, CA, MAY 17, 2012—Hampton Fancher is in talks to reunite with his “Blade Runner” director Ridley Scott to develop the idea for the original screenplay for the Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free, and Bud Yorkin produced follow up to the ground-breaking 1982 science fiction classic, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-Chief Executive Officers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove.
The filmmakers are also revealing for the first time that the much-anticipated project is intended to be a sequel to the renowned original. The filmmakers would reveal only that the new story will take place some years after the first film concluded.
The three-time Oscar-nominated Scott and his “Blade Runner” collaborator Fancher originally conceived of their 1982 classic as the first in a series of films incorporating the themes and characters featured in Philip K. Dick‘s groundbreaking novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?“, from which “Blade Runner” was adapted. Circumstances, however, took Scott into other directions and the project never advanced.
Fancher, although a writer of fiction, was known primarily as an actor at the time Scott enlisted him to adapt the Dick novel for the screen. Fancher followed his “Blade Runner” success with the screenplays, “The Mighty Quinn” (1989) and “The Minus Man” (1999). He has continued to write fiction throughout his career.
Scott also will produce with Alcon co-founders and co-Chief Executive Officers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove as well as Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes Yorkin. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO’s of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.
The original film, which has been singled out as the greatest science-fiction film of all time by a majority of genre publications, was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” The film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1993 and is frequently taught in university courses. In 2007, it was named the 2nd most visually influential film of all time by the Visual Effects Society.
State Kosove and Johnson: “It is a perfect opportunity to reunite Ridley with Hampton on this new project, one in fact inspired by their own personal collaboration, a classic of cinema if there ever was one.”
Released by Warner Bros. almost 30 years ago, “Blade Runner” was adapted by Fancher and David Peoples from Philip K. Dick‘s groundbreaking novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” and directed by Scott following his landmark “Alien.” The film was nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction). Following the filming of “Blade Runner,” the first of Philip K. Dick’s works to be adapted into a film, many other of Dick’s works were likewise adapted, including “Total Recall,” “A Scanner Darkly,” “Minority Report,” “Paycheck,” and the recent “The Adjustment Bureau,” among others.

While a new Blood Ties begins – Crimson Empire III ends with issue # 6 of 6 out this week. It has been a good ride but it’s time for Kir to go now.
STAR WARS CRIMSON EMPIRE III EMPIRE LOST #6 (OF 6)
OOOH but wait Dark Horse has one more awesome ending for us this week with Star Wars: Dark Times-Out of the Wilderness #5 – illustrated by the one and only Douglas Wheatley. Dark Times is an awesome series that has been plagued by publishing delays since the beginning – let’s hope that this final issue is everything we’ve been waiting for!

Zayne Carrick is the hero that we kinda/sorta love to hate.
After all he has no blood lust, he just wants to live his life, he’s not interested in being the hero.
Yet in this issue when force the Mandos to return to the planet from which the Republic drafted him, he helps them take control of a station — in an effort to save lives.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawww.
Then he comes back to help save his Republic friends.
Nice.
But no, we still see no signs of his girlfriend, but for the first time in this series we do see his old ‘boss’ Gryph.
Good fun.
