Dr. Keller is a wimp.

We’ve known this all along this episode just re-enforces that simple fact -Jewel Staite was a wimp as Kaylee in Firefly too..so nothing wrong with that..she’s been typecast that way.

That said..another great Stargate Atlantis episode..two huge revelations in this episode though which will make it pivotal for the rest of the season.

#1 Where are the Ethosians?

#2 Tayla is PREGNANT!

Star Wars Lego for Nintendo Wii – Not so great for Wiimote November 10, 2007

We’ve been playing the new Star Wars Lego the Complete Saga for the Nintendo Wii for the last three days….

YES it’s the first Star Wars game available on the Wii.

YES it is the best version EVER of Star Wars lego – as it has EVERYTHING in it and lots of little extra cut scenes too.

NO it doesn’t make proper use of the Wiimote or Nunchuck. You can use the WiiMote to slash but it’s not consistent or fluid – it’s much easier and better for gameplay just to press the B button.

It won’t be until Star Wars the Force Unleashed comes out that we’ll finally see what the Wii was made for.

The Eighth book in this awesome series – Star Wars Legacy of the Force : Revelation is set for a Feb 26, 2008 release.

Unfortunately it’s written by Karen Travis, the author that wrote the worst book in the series Sacrifice and killed Mara Jade Skywalker.

Who is on the cover? Looks like Jacen.
What’s the Revelation? That the Sith suck?? that He killed Mara?? we’ll find out…

Jaina Solo Will Be on Cover of Star Wars Legacy of the Force Invincible November 9, 2007

Star Wars Legacy of the Force is the final book in the series – and LucasFilm has now confirmed that Jacen’s sister Jaina will be on the cover.

As of the date of this posting – no image cover for the book was publicly avaiable.

Invincible is set for a May 13, 2008 release in hardcover and is being penned by the best krifing author of the series Troy Denning.

Does Jaina on the cover mean that she’ll destroy Jacen?

Does it mean that she too will turn to the Sith?

I think so…I expect Jaina to marry Fel – from whose offspring Roan Fel will emerge. Roan Fel though not officially Sith – is kinda/sorta there with his whole ‘i’m the Emperor’ deal.

Winona Ryder to Play Spock’s MAMA in Star Trek XI November 9, 2007

NO JOKE! Ryder will play Amanda, the human woman who marries Spock’s Vulcan father, Sarek.

No word yet who will play Sarek though…

Is this good or bad? frankly i think it’s great to have at least one A list actor in any movie…even if it is just a bit part.

Star Wars: 30th Anniversary Collection Volume 8–Splinter of the Mind’s Eye November 9, 2007

I remember well reading Allan Dean Foster’s Splinter of the Mind’s Eye when i was (much) younger. It was THE FIRST Star Wars expanded universe book and as such hold a very special place in the Star Wars pantheon.

I had never seen the Splinter of the Mind’s Eye comic though..so when Dark Horse included it as part of the 30th Anniversary Hardcover set…i grabbed it.

The art is pretty solid – the story not quite as rich as the Allan Dean Foster novel – but then again it’s not too shabby either. It’s always tough to see Luke and Leia in comic form since we always visualize the actors that played them.

That said this is a fine collection and another must have for all Star Wars fans and it will hold a treasured place on my book shelf.

Bionic Woman 1×6 The List November 8, 2007

With Jamie’s new love interest..i was beginning to worry that this show would really lame out.
That wasn’t the case.

Another solid (though predictable) episode where the Bionic Woman gets her man.

What this show is lacking is a greater depth in plot and much better visual effects for her bionic strength attributes. If the producer could beef the show a bit it would be enough to put it over the top.

WOW.
I’ve totally enjoyed the Star Wars 30th Anniversary hardcover set to date..but Light and Dark may well be the best of the bunch.

First off this book is very difficult to find…my local retailer never even got a shipment..i tracked it down at Midtown Comics in NYC after some difficulty…but nothing like the difficulty Quinlan Vos has to deal with.

Man is he one awesome Jedi – double agent for the republic and the confederacy page turning excitement with Jedi hunter Aurra Sing..this is one big book jam packed with cover to cover non-stop pure Star Wars excitement.

Star Trek XI : Greenwood to Play Capt Pike November 8, 2007

I always thought that poor Captain Pike got shafted badly in Trek. His chair and the whole blinking lights thing was just..saaaaaaaaaaad.

Well Pike makes a return – on two legs – in Star Trek XI by way of Canadian actor Bruce Greenwood.

It will be neat to see Pike in full command of the NCC-1701 AS he should have been all along…

Star Trek XI is set for an XMAS 2008 release.

Straczynski’s Star Trek – Boldly Going Where Star Trek Had Gone Before November 7, 2007

J Michael Straczynski is one the greatest storytellers of this generation…the original run of Babylon 5 is proof positive of that fact.

Turns out in 2004 he sent a proposal to CBS Paramount for a rebooted version of Star Trek that would have been a re- imaginging of the classic series.

Although fan accusations of burn-out and story-repetition from the creative teams may be part of the explanation, and certainly any team may need a time away after nearly sixteen years at the helm, there’s a simpler answer at hand, one that need not paint these accomplished people in any kind of negative light.

The best solution is to go back to the original and start again.

It’s time to re-boot the Star Trek Universe.

Concept

What we propose is not Star Trek: Another Generation, or Star Trek: A New Ship, or even Star Trek: The Search for Plots. In other words, not a copy of a copy, or a distillation of a variation.

We want to re-boot STAR TREK. The original. Pure and simple. The characters, universe and situations that have attracted, and continue to attract, a worldwide audience. Re-set…re-imagined… re-invigorated…

Personally i think the Straczynski proposal is ABSOLUTE MADNESS AND LUNACY. Unlike Battlestar Galactica where the classic series was campy nonsense. Classic Trek while camp was incredibly well written and conceived. Look how well the new HD series shapes up for FRAKS sake!

Check out the full proposal at IESB

oH and filming for Star Trek XI – which doesn’t re-imagine but is a prequel to Classic Trek – starts today!

Battlestar Galactica Pegasus – one shot from Dynamite November 7, 2007

The great Battlestar Pegasus – the episode in which it appeared in the Classic BSG was a ‘classic’ itself. In the modern re-imagined Battlestar Galactica – the Pegasus is soo very much more. The upcoming Razor movie will shed a whole lot of light on exactly how much more…but till then Dynamites Pegasus one shot isn’t a bad filler.

And make no mistake – ‘filler’ – is what this book is…it’s not terribly complex and essentially hits on that key period just ahead of the main cylon attack.

It’s a ripe period for plot..and this little book gives a first look – not sure if its canon – on Cain’s first modern day encounter with the Cylon. Art is ok and the story progresses well..it’s just not as deep as say the Season Zero or the Zarek mini-series.

Remember when the Shuttle was first rolled out? Wasn’t that cool? Futuristic?

Well NASA is now going backwards and is rolling out its next generation manned space transport and its a total throwback to the Gemini capsule days.

It’s a SAD SAD SAD day for Space science and the manned exploration of space.

Toronto Observatory – once one of the largest in the world – to be sold. November 6, 2007

Further proof that Toronto is a second rate city. The University of Toronto is selling off the David Dunlap Observatory and the 191-acre property that surrounds it.

When the observatory opened in 1935 the 188-centimetre telescope was the world’s second-largest.

The first Black Hole ever discovered – Cygnus X1 was discovered by the Dunlap observatory..

But now the GREED OF TORONTO is sending this great center of science into a black hole fueled by a lack of foresight and a total disrespect for the memory of the man who donated the money to endow the observatory in 1935.

Toronto apparently values development over science – and apparently has little regard for Astronomy.

The Toronto Star has a solid story on this travesty. It’s a darn shame that the University of Toronto, the Government of Ontario and Canada have no respect for the wishes of the people.

Toronto has a very poor relationship with Astronomy in fact – it was just yesterday that we reported on the sad state of the Toronto McLauglin Planetarium…which is now likely set to become a condo development.

SHAME SHAME SHAME.

Former Toronto Planetarium Site to be sold– for Condos? November 5, 2007

Toronto claims to be a world class city – but how could it be..when it has turned its back on the stars?

Over a decade ago the Royal Ontario Museum closed what was the Toronto McLaughlin Planetarium – over money issues. They sold off the stellarium, the Zeiss star projector and abandoned–no they NEGLECTED the population of Toronto.

The building has stood vacant – with a few exceptions – for most of this millennium. Now the geniuses that run the ROM who spent all their money on the crystal monstrosity that grows out of the side of the legacy ROM building like some kind of malignant tumor – want to see the Toronto Planetarium site sold for condo development.

SHAME. SHAME. SHAME.

The shame is not just on the ROM but on Toronto itself.

We sure love locating rare finds here on ShowMeSciFi.com – this is definitely one of those RARE finds.

Though Enterprise itself was a weak show that met a timely demise – the mirror universe episode of Enterprise – “In A Mirror, Darkly” was easily one of the best if not THE BEST episode of the whole series and likely one of the best Mirror Mirror universe episodes in the entire star trek cannon.

From the beginning – with its custom show intro – to the ridiculously cool plot – what an awesome show..and hey NX-01 as an ISS battleship – WOW.

And hey thanks to Art Asylum – you can own your own mirror universe NX-01 …check out this eBay auction for yourself….and then look in the mirror and laugh…

Stargate Atlantis 4×6 Tabula Rasa November 4, 2007

tabula.jpg

At first we thought that this was going to be yet another amnesia episode…the kind we’ve seen a few times over ten years on Stargate SG-1.

Tabula Rasa is better. The name Tabula Rasa itself is never mentioned in the episode, a quick Wikipedia lookup shows that it means – “Tabula rasa (Latin: scraped tablet or clean slate) refers to the epistemological thesis that individual human beings are born with no innate or built-in mental content, in a word, “blank”, and that their entire resource of knowledge is built up gradually from their experiences and sensory perceptions of the outside world.”

That’s exactly what this episode is about – the Atlantis expedition figures out what they’re supposed to do piece by piece – with clues they left themselves..and the easy plot out that Tayla and Ronen are immune (sort of like in STar Trek when Data is immune in the amnesia episodes).

Still a gripping and entertaining episode easily a 3.75 out of 5 stars.

Original Darth Vader Actor Hasn’t Spoken To Lucas Since 1983 November 4, 2007

prowse.jpgTalk about bearing a grudge. In a recent interview David Prowse the ORIGINAL Darth Vader actor revealed that due to a dispute he had with George Lucas nearly 25 years ago he hasn’t spoke with Lucas since 1983.

Lucas seems like a nice enough dude to me – so what did Prowse do to be totally ignored by Lucas for over two decades?
In a nutshell he betrayed George Lucas’s trust…or did he???

I always wondered why we never EVER see David Prowse unmasked in Star Wars…

In the interview Prowse details what actually happened:

So, I get a phone call from a reporter saying ‘I’d like to do an article all about you and your weightlifting’. He turned up at my gymnasium that evening and halfway through he says, ‘you know you’re being killed off in this movie, don’t you? And another guy’s playing the dying Darth Vader?’ I said ‘they wouldn’t do that – they wouldn’t go and unmask somebody else after I’ve played the part for six years’. He asked if I had a call sheet, and he looked at it and it said: ‘Dave Prowse, Darth Vader, Studio 1’, and underneath it ‘Sebastian Shaw, Anakin Skywalker, Studio 10’. He finished the interview abruptly as soon as he’d told me all this and the next day The Daily Mail had the headline: ‘Darth Vader to be killed off in the next movie, in an exclusive interview with Dave Prowse’. And that ruined my association with Star Wars. I was ostracized while on the movie, the producer and director wouldn’t work with me and Lucas wouldn’t speak to me.

Sounds like a real Sith plot to me.

“All this has happened before and it will happen again”

WOWOWOWOW. The flashbacks have all been awesome so far but this one really raises an incredible number of questions.

Adama stumbles onto a Cylon lab – obviously they’re experimenting on humans to try and make a biological cylon…or are they?

There is enough doubt and clues planted that the Cylon could very well have been biological beings to begin with..

The most curious line in the whole two minutes — all this has happened before and will happen again – was that just a voice in Adama’s head? the Fifth Cylon?

I don’t know…but I do know that these flashback – while only 2 minutes in length are excellent entertainment.

If you’re outside the US and don’t have the stomach for Flash BS – here’s the vid for your viewing pleasure..
