Zayne Carrick is the hero that we kinda/sorta love to hate.

After all he has no blood lust, he just wants to live his life, he’s not interested in being the hero.

Yet in this issue when force the Mandos to return to the planet from which the Republic drafted him, he helps them take control of a station — in an effort to save lives.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawww.

Then he comes back to help save his Republic friends.

Nice.

But no, we still see no signs of his girlfriend, but for the first time in this series we do see his old ‘boss’ Gryph.

Good fun.

Star Wars Agent of the Empire #4 Jahan Cross Finally Lands on the Iron Eclipse April 9, 2012

We had some doubts about this series when it first started, but Dark Horse and the GREAT John Ostrander have proven us wrong.

From first page to last, this issue gripped us with action that we couldn’t put down. Jahan Cross beds his enemies sister, then she gets toasted not by her brother as we expect,  instead the brother is killed by the robotkilling father.

Nice twist.

Now how are they going to get off the iron eclipse?

Sure Han and Chewie will just swoop in …..

Or will they?

In any event, the addition of Jahan Cross to the Star Wars canon is a great one, he’s a character that we want to see  a whole lot more of from Dark Horse in the months and years to come.

Star Wars Fate of the Jedi Apocalypse : THE WORST STAR WARS BOOK EVER WRITTEN?! April 7, 2012

Fate of the Jedi started out as decent story….the introduction of Vestara Kai and the Lost Tribe of the Sith to the Star Wars cannon are both worthy additions.

That said, this last book was such a total piece of sh*t it makes us sick.

How this book ever got through editorial oversight is beyond us. This book could have been 200 pages shorter and it would have been much better, delivering the key plot points. As it was, this was easily the most painful Star Wars book we’ve read in years. Long, slow drawn out action. Sure action is great to have, this whole book is action and most of it makes no sense at all.

Were this not the last book in a series we’ve read from the beginning, there is no way we would have read this to the end, it’s that bad.

At the beginning of this series Luke leaves Coruscant, then he comes back. Then the Jedi leave, then they come back, Then they all leave again. And in between Abeloth is destroyed and Jaina get married to Fel. And oh yeah Vestara — is she good or evil? who knows…the author of this book totally buthered her character so much so that we just don’t care.

Yes we love Star Wars books, and yes we’ll still buy the next series that comes out — even though at this point it’s clear that the publisher is just abusing readers.

A great week ahead for SciFi comic book fans.

At the top of our list is Dark Horse Star Wars Agent of the Empire #4. This series first story arc is coming to a close and we really have no idea quite how this will be resolved. So far it has been a fun ride though. this new issue looks to continue that trend.

We get a double dose of Star Wars goodness this week too with the release of STAR WARS KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC WAR #3 (OF 5).

Yeaah Zayne Carrick is still a P*ssy but the story is good fun..and really we just want to see how he figures a way out of the mess that he’s stuck in…

Looking beyond Dark Horse we’re also interested in:

DC –

LEGION LOST #7

IDW –

DOCTOR WHO ONGOING VOL 2 #15

STAR TREK 100 PAGE SPECTACULAR 2012

and

WILLIAM SHATNER MAN O WAR ONGOING #1 (

Star Wars : Darth Palgueis – THIS book Sucks. No he’s Not Anakin’s Dad either February 25, 2012

Ever since we’ve all seen Star Wars Episode III Revenge of the Sith, we’ve all known about the Tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise…and now finally here is a story that tells his tale.

Great idea – except for the fact that this book sucks and is the worst Star Wars book we’ve read in years.

From a reader’s perspective – the author- James Luceno, appears to have written this book with a thesaurus in-hand as there was hardly a page spread that went by where we didn’t need to consult a dictionary to figure out what a word meant. For a Star Wars book, that’s rare and totally unacceptable. How this got past the publishers copy editing team is beyond us..this book as is should never have been published.

Once you get past Luceno’s obscene use of arcane language – the story is so bland, it’s disgusting. We kept waiting for something to happen that never did.

Yes we do find out about the early years of Palpatine on Naboo – and there are some cool scenes. But in general this book skirts the edges of Episode I – during which Plagueis apparently still lived?! really?

We had also thought that Plagueis would be the dude that ‘created’ anakin just by his ability to manipulate midchlorians…but that’s not the case.

Going a step further into the absurd, we get some limited insight into Dooku – who apparently meets Palpatine – knowing it’s palpatine – wearing a cowl in the district where he in later movies meets Sidious. Does Dooku know that Palpatine is Darth Sidious? who knows.

And no – we don’t find out what ever really happened to Master Sifo Dias either.

This book had the potential to be awesome but the combination of over-writing and weak plotting left us totally unsatisfied by this book.

This series is also really picking up nicely…though this particular issue was all about one thing..

JAHAN CROSS ON THE RUN.

Nothing more really, the agent of the empire is running from the corporate sector police (into Han Solo’s smuggling containers too!) but no new major revelations about the plot.

Still, an entertaining run..but the real plot is hopefully coming in the next issue as we finally see what this conspiracy is all about. Issues like these make us wonder if we should just wait for the trade..cause then we don’t have to wait a month to see what happens next…

The first issue of KOTOR War was ok…but this second issue really picks up the pace.

We learn about the new Mandalorian Jedi..which is a neat idea and one that we hadn’t seen before It’s also neat that they drafted Zayne and the commander of his ship too…though that didn’t quite work out.

This is an engaging story..we’re not quite sure what happens on the next page and that’s how we like it. This is a story that keeps us guessing and amazed by it unfolds.

We should see Zayne finding a way to leave the Mandalorian army sooner rather than later..but it’ll be interesting to see how much damage he does first.

Wow what a great week for SciFi comic fans!

We’ve got at least four really great titles out this week from Dark Horse alone to look forward too.

At the top of  our list is Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: War #2 – sure we weren’t thrilled with the first issue, but hey we’re sure thrilled to have KOTOR back!

Next up is STAR WARS CRIMSON EMPIRE III EMPIRE LOST #4 (OF 6). This is a series that we waited years for and each issue is better than the next.

Rounding out this week’s Star Wars triumvirate of comics is

STAR WARS AGENT OF The EMPIRE IRON ECLIPSE #3 (OF 5) – we loved the last issue and can hardly wait to crack this one open.

Dark Horse also has DARK MATTER #2 (OF 4) – which is written by the team behind Stargate (the show!) and hey it’s kinda neat too.

And next week – Dawn of the Jedi #1 is out!! can this month get any better?

EA Bioware Finally fixes the Most Annoying bug in Star Wars the Old Republic #SWTOR February 7, 2012

We’ve been playing Star Wars The Old Republic, night and day since the game launch six weeks ago. Over that time EA/BIOWARE have issued more fixes than we can count, but never one for the most annoying bug ever.

that changed today.

The patch list states:

The message “There are no missions defined for the Crew Skill: [Crew Skill Name]” is no longer erroneously displayed.

We wondered for weeks what we were doing wrong, some ppl said it was a bug, others said it was something else, while the morons at Bioware were just clueless as they laugh at us gamers that pay them money for a buggy game. Anyways that flaw is fixed, plenty more though still in the game – we’ve got a post and a video coming soon to highlight the worst ones.

20120128-202736.jpg No we weren’t big fans of the first issue of this series…but it turns out we’ve been proven wrong.

Issue #2 is awesome.

Jahan Cross is a real character and this title has a real plot. We can hardly remember the last time there was as much intrigue in ANY Star Wars title as this one. Yeaah he really is the James Bond of Star Wars..he lands the lady (then is framed for her death) while still getting the step daughter to help him out. Twist after twist.

It’s still not entirely clear to us how this will end up (which is a good thing, easy predictable plots are boring). We don’t know how Jahan will get out of this or what the Iron Eclipse really is all about (yet).

While we weren’t too excited with the first issue, man are we glad we stuck around for the second, this book is a keeper and another winner from John Ostrander (no it’s still not as AWESOME as Legacy but hey it’s still a great read).

KOTOR is BAck! thank you Dark Horse for bringing back this great era.

Zayne Carrick is back and he’s still kinda sorta on the run, but this time not from his own destiny…he’s trying to run from his duty to the Republic…what is strange though is that it’s not clear what happened between Knight of the Old Republic #50 and this issue..it’s just a whole blank era…i thought he connected with that former slave captain girl and was still working with the crooks…the missing years or gap isn’t a good thing and really doesnt make this feel like a continuation of the first series.

Sure it’s ZAYNE CARRICK but the character doesn’t feel like it should.

That said – he’s in Revan’s Army fighting Mandalorians. how cool is that? We barely saw Revan in the first KOTOR (and hey we haven’t seen him here yet either), but still. Even with the time gap, this is fine era, and this first issue is loaded with action. We’re looking forward to the next issue!

what do you get when you try and crowdsource the greatest movie ever made?

You get the greatest crowdsourced movie ever made – a fan version of star wars. Sure it’s hokey at more points than i care to count and some performances are pretty bad, some are awesome and the totality of the effort is astounding. This is what fandom is all about. Let’s just hope that Lucas doesn’t decide to try and sue.

20120122-224714.jpg We’ve finally gotten around to reading the final issue of the latest Dark Horse Knight Errant title, Deluge #5 and it’s a real treat.

Kerra returns to save Daiman’s homeworld from being flooded by Zodoh the Hutt…yeaah it’s strange Kerra saving Daiman–but it’s really all about the ppl right?

In any event, a decent story, though the ending of how one ship was able to crash into Zodoh’s capital ship and destroy it…is a little unbelievable.

The final ending of Zodoh though is a bit dark..with Daiman using Zodoh’s own tech against him to end the hutt’s life…somehow fitting.

Well that’s it for Knight Errant until June when the next series – titled Escape – takes off and we can hardly wait.

Star Wars The Old Republic has been out for a month now and the fine folks at Bioware are REALLY scared that they are going to lose tens of thousand of players. The one month mark is when players need to decide to continue to subscribe or not and it’s a critical make or break point for this game.

So what is Bioware doing? They’ve got a new flashpoint – which by the way is unplayable – and they’re promising changes to the game.

For one, we will FINALLY get the ability to resize and move menus around easily. SRSLY? That’s not a feature that’s a bug that should not have made it this long.

As well, they’re promising Guild Banks – again, that should have been there day one.

So what is there to look forward too?

NOT MUCH.

That said there is so many classes and missions in the game to begin with..and i doubt that anyone has been able to hit level 50 for all classes yet….

Ever since John Ostrander revealed he would be working on a new series – after the greatest Dark Horse Star Wars comic of all time — Legacy — we’ve been excited about his new project.

After reading it – we’re interested, but a bit underwhelmed.

Agent of the Empire is essentially a James Bond kind of character working for the Empire.

Ok that’s alright, but he’s a stick figure of a character (so far) without much personality.

That artwork is passable and not up to Legacy standards yet either.

And from a canon perspective – when did we find out that Han Solo went to the Imperial Academy? somehow i missed that before…a neat twist though and seeing a younger Han Solo makes this book almost worthwhile.

So long story short, empire’s agent is hunting down bad apples in the Empire…..

Sure we’ll keep reading this – it’s only a five issue series after all – but the premise isn’t nearly as strong as the previous generation of Star Wars titles and so far, neither is the plot, artwork or characters.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan – REVIEW – what a sad, sad story December 2, 2011

After playing Knights of the Old Republic we all know Revan. The Jedi that went after the Mandalorians then was turned to the dark side as Darth Revan, then back to the light to destroy Darth Malak.

But what happens after that?

That’s where the new Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan comes in, right after those games.

The first half of this book is pure AWESOME. We see the real Revan, the human, the husband and the man.

Then by way of his friendship with the Mandalorian Candorous, we begin to see the Revan we all know from the game.  Match that up with the parallel plot of Darth Scourge on the other side ..and wow this was a book that we just could not put down. Scourge was headed the other way from the dark to the light …

until…

well (spoiler alert)…………….

Meetra (the Exile) returns to save Revan and then WTF happens? what a sad, depressing ending. This is much worse than Han Solo trapped in Carbonite. Revan was close to ending the Emperor and then instead he suffers in stasis, never knowing his son.

Then again, I suppose since this is all lead-up for the new Old Republic game what this book does is it set up the return of Revan. Since he’s not dead…it would make sense that for the Jedi one mission would be to retrieve Revan from stasis to help defeat the Sith…

Anyways…another awesome old republic book..and hey the game is out soon too…and we can hardly wait.

Star Wars Fate of the Jedi Ascension : REVIEW. Vestara is a Bitch November 10, 2011

The fate of the Jedi series has been up and down so far.

With Ascension we get some of the most kriffing nonesense plot elements ever and also some of the best. This book overall is a mess in terms of having any real credibility in terms of plot and dramatic progression. The again what should we have expected?

The first book in the series, Outcast saw Luke Skywalker exiled from Coruscant. Now in Ascension he’s back…and then he exiles all the Jedi from Coruscant.

The Backlash second book was ok, Allies was also ok,  Vortex was great and Conviction sucked arse.

****SPOILERS AHEAD ***************

How does Abeloth get Gavar Kai to fire on his own homeworld? that made no sense. How did Kai get others to join him? also made no sense. How and why did he end up on that other planet? Also no sense.

Vestara Killing him? Now that was great, so at least we don’t have to hear that whiny bstrd anymore.

But how do we go from the Lost Tribe wandering to having them in control of the Senate? in like what the span of a month or two? That makes no kriffing sense at all. Abeloth voted in as a Senator? well that i could see coming, but the Sith…i dunno.

The population going along with the imprisonment of Leia? I dunno about that either.

Daala magically getting her own fleet? Another pile of nonsense. But the twist where we thought Head of State Fel was dead was kinda neat.

We will say this…the book ended well. We’ve got Abeloth in control of the Senate, Vestara proving that she is a Sith Bitch after all and a showdown setup where the Jedi will come back and kiss arse.
