Season two starts on Thursday September 17th at 9 PM. That’s right Fringe is moving from Tuesdays to Thursday and will now be up against The Office.
Will Fringe survive? I don’t think so..this is the wrong time slot for this show.
Timing aside, we’re really looking forward to the second season of Fringe..the whole Leonard Nimoy multi-verse has so many dramatic possibilities ..as does Olivia’s transformation into understanding her super-human powers.
For some strange reason, the DVD collection of Fringe: The Complete First Season is not out till the week before season two starts.

Green Lantern is coming back to the big screen and is now set for a June 17, 2011 release date.
No casting decisions have yet been – officially made – but the fans have already spoken – Nathan Fillion – aka Firefly’s Captain Mal should be Hal Jordan the Green Lantern.
Check out this (fan made) trailer for the new Green Lantern below — yeah it’s got that Star Trek soundtrack vibe – but it works
Buck Rogers SUCKS – it’s re-imagined and he’s now fighting talking Bears June 15, 2009

Hey we’re all for re-booting old sci-fi concepts when it makes sense — BSG being the best example. And we LOVED the 80’s TV series.
But the new Dynamite comic book series Buck Rogers is LAME. Issue #0 from free comic book day looked a little slick and we didn’t know what to expect.
Now we’ve got the first real issue and it SUCKS.
Instead of being with NASA ..Buck is a scientist entrepneur figuring out a new propulsion system … he gets vaulted into the future – we don’t know how- crash lands in a ditch and Wilma (yeah she’s back) finds him…
But they gotta run..cause Bears are coming..
Buck says when you see a bear just play dead and it’ll leave you alone but these are walking talking human stalking bears…it’s about as lame an idea as anyone can imagine.
the costumes for the Earth’ers are slick, beyond that this new Buck Rogers is quite possibly the worst iteration of Buck Rogers in his 80+ years of life.
We won’t be buying this crap ever again.
Terminator Salvation The Machinima Series – Looks Hot with Blair June 12, 2009

Yeaah Terminator Salvation as a movie was kinda lame – but Blair the A-10 Warthog pilot was kinda hot..
And she’s BAAACK! Well at least the animated version of her in the Terminator Salvation Machinima series. You can get the whole series from Amazon, but check out the Episode 1 preview below…
The animation is pretty slick, the story not too shabby and overall it’s good Terminator fun.
Star Trek Countdown is the must read prequel to Star Trek XI June 11, 2009

ok SO we didn’t LOVE Star Trek XI because of some alternate universe timeline issues…but maybe we were a little harsh..
We just finished reading the Star Trek Countdown Trade Paperback, and it sure does a lot to help Star Trek XI make sense.
For one, the comic ties in the Next Generation cast – Picard in this comic is the ambassador to Vulcan, Worf works for the Klingons and Data is back as Captain of the Enterprise (an imprint on B-4).
Nero’s ship — is explained as a Romulan research project including the best of Borg technology — that makes sense..and I sure wish the movie added that tidbit of info..
Red matter is well explained as is the Hobes star that destroyed Romulus. Basically this is the story that the movie failed to tell effectively – told from a post Star Trek Nemesis timeline.
It’s great stuff and it sure is too bad that this wasn’t part of the actual movie – that would have made the difference – for us – for Star Trek XI being ok – to Star Trek XI being the best Star Trek ever made.
Life, The Universe and Everything – Hitchiker’s Trilogy book 3 (re)Review June 10, 2009

After finishing the Restaurant at the End of the Universe in April, we now come to Life, The Universe and Everything — the third book in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
This is one fine book.
The central storyline in this book – of the evil Krikket – is sublime and delightful. Along the way there is the usual Adams nonsense, though in this book – to us at least – more of it seems to makes sense.
The people of Krikket just want to be the only ones in the Universe – i can understand that…
The little side plots – the one with the creature that Arthur Dent keeps killing again and again ..and his continuously changing bags are both hilarious..
But the one with the immortal that is spending eternity finding every sentient in the universe to deliver an insult is sheer brilliance esp the final graph of the book.

New Futurama episodes headed to Comedy Central? June 9, 2009

Yeeaah we liked the Futurama direct to DVD movies just fine (some of them)
Bender’s Game, Into the Wild Green Yonder, The Beast with a Billion Backs and Bender’s Big Score.
The rumor is now that Comedy Central home of South Park – is set to pick up 13 episodes. Thats would be pretty sweet.
And it would mean that Fox could finally kiss Bender’s behind goodbye (or would it?)
Then again the direct to DVD stuff has been neat..though having 30 mins episodes is a very different thing. We wouldn’t have these longer stories that tie together – which can be a lot of fun.
Blade Runner Prequel – Purefold set for web debut this summer June 8, 2009

I don’t know what the deal is with prequels..but it looks like we’re going to get a Blade Runner prequel of sorts.
Why I say of sorts – is because Purefold – a new effort by Ridley and Tony Scott – will be set in the same ‘universe’ as Blade Runner – just a few years prior.
Purefold will be made up of a bunch of short (5-10 minutes) webisodes all revolving around the central theme of what it is to be human.
The really neat part is that the content of the short movies is all open – under a creative commons license – so anyone can mash it up and make something else with it.
The Scott’s are also soliciting contributions though FriendFeed– though i don’t understand how that works, it looks like a total mess to me now.
Stargate Universe SGU- A sexier, darker Stargate June 8, 2009

It’s looking more and more like SGU – Stargate Universe will actually be more like a Stargate reboot than a continuation of the SG-1 and SG-Atlantis type of shows that we all know and love.
Don’t get me wrong though after 10 years of SG-1 and five of Atlantis change is a good thing.
With the G’ould defeated, the ORI toasted..all we’ve got left are the Wraith..and they can be beat.
So how will this show be darker/different? Apparently SGU doesn’t have all the answers — so no McKay or Carter – and the show is about survival.
The latest sneak peak trailer gives us a small taste…and it sure looks good to me.
Star Wars: Legacy #36 -Krayt Imperials vs Fel Imperials vs Galactic Alliance June 1, 2009

One of the best parts about Star Wars Legacy is the complexity of the larger Star Wars universe.
But sometimes it gets a little too complex.
In this issue we get a one off story updating us on the status of the Galactic Alliance fleet which is now allied with Roan Fel’s Imperial Fleet.
They run into an engagement with Krayt’s imperials – and guess what?
The Imperials – Krayt or Fel’s all kinda look the same. Come to think of Stazi’s GA ships all look like Imperial star destroyers too (cause the y are)
We had to re-read several sections of this issue several times to try and keeps sides straight and figure out who was who (and on which side).
That’s kinda neat actually ..a little confusing but again it shows the complexity of the Legacy universe.
Missing from this issue are the Jedi – who apparently have no fleets of their own and are just bystanders in this whole movement of Armada’s business
Alien prequel coming..will Ripley be back? May 30, 2009
Posted by showmescifi in scifi.1 comment so far
The original Alien (1979) is a SciFi classic — though Aliens was arguably a better movie.. the third Alien and the crap that followed is pure crap.
But now word is circulating that we could get a prequel…that might be really neat. The prequel is set for a 2011 release at this point.
We might get further insight into the Alien and the Company ..two entities that JUST EXIST in Alien but we never get the full backstory..
Might also be interesting to get the backstory on Ripley (signory weaver)..though she only really got interesting in Aliens.
Terminator Salvation SUCKS. This isn’t the movie we were waiting for May 29, 2009

We’ve been looking forward to Terminator 4 – aka – Terminator Salvation for a long time.
For the first time ever we will have an entire movie set in the future with Terminators everywhere and John Connor leading the fight…or so we had hoped.
Terminator Salvation is not the movie we hoped for. The plot is weak and easily could have just been called – the hunt for Kyle Reese..or the Salvation of Marcus Wright…
While those are both kinda/sorta interesting..it’s not what we wanted. We wanted full on Terminators everywhere…which isn’t what we got.
Sure there is the Schwarzenegger type Terminator battle which was neat, but what the frak was Markus then? If they already had full flesh?
Where were the great one-liners that made the Terminator franchise? Yeaah there was a cheesy – I’ll be back – but beyond that?
This was just a movie that felt like it was going through the motions. It wasn’t boring but it wasn’t all that exciting either.
The Terminator pre-quel book had a superior plot to this lame excuse for a movie.
Hopefully though MCG gets a second shot at this..the setup in this movie..for Connor to be the supreme leader was cool..and to see him really take leadership, send his dad back in time and destroy Skynet will be something that we sure would love to see.

While everyone is talking about that FRUMPISH woman that sings from Cats and Les Miz…Britain’s got talent has another weirdo on the show…
Darth Jackson .. a dude that dances to Michael Jackson tunes in a Darth Vader outfit.
It is funny to see him and the stormtroopers dance..i’m not sure that George Lucas would be amused though..but I am.

Terminator Salvation From the Ashes (movie prequel) is great stuff May 24, 2009

From the Ashes by Timothy Zahn is a pretty good book – oh and its also the prequel to the new Terminator Salvation movie too.
It basically sets up the conditions so we understand where John Connor is …that is not part of the main Resistance (yet) and the position of Kyle Reese who is hanging out in a place called Moldering Ashes.
Yeaah there is some action in this book, the last several chapter are nothing but action — but the real keys are the characters and the setting…stuff that the big movie just doesn’t have time to explain.
Zahn of course is a great SciFi writer on his own, so the quality of pacing and writing is superb in this book. This is a must-read for all Terminator fans!

After all he’s been through, Cade Skywalker is still scum.
He defeated Darth Krayt, was hailed as a savior of the Jedi Order and maybe even the Galactic Alliance itself but in the end Cade is a troubled man.
When we first met Cade way back in the first issue of this series he was hiding who he was and living out his life as a bounty hunter.
Then over the course of the last three years he has revealed who he really is, his friends have found out who he really is but none of that matters.
At the core of his being Cade Skywalker is bounty hunter scum.
In this issue he ends up starting a bar fight and nearly turns to the dark side to kill his cousin.
For what??
It’s his nature. Cade is no Jedi hero. He is a Skywalker but he is not the heir to the Luke Skywalker legacy.
That’s fine by us and what makes Legacy one of the best Star Wars storylines of all time.
It would have been easy for this series to be just about the transformation of Cade from bounty hunter to Jedi hero. But life is never that easy and neither is this series. It’s a complex series where heroes are villains and there are no clear answers.
At the end of this issue, Cade returns to the life he had where this series began. A disreputable scum bag on the run.

Alright not a spoiler anymore the show was on tuesday night…
Peter is really dead. How about that!! Walter had to pull him over from an alternate reality…but doesn’t that mean that someone else is missing Peter?
Neat to see Leonard Nimoy – albeit briefly and kind of eerie to have his office in the World Trade Center.
But hey we know this show has been renewed so in a few short months we’ll know what the frak is going on!

Finally got the chance to watch Caprica and it sure is a worthy addition to the Battlestar Galactica canon.
The show is deep and complex, with great characters and fine actors.
The challenge of mono-theism vs polytheism is something that the regular Battlestar Galactica never really explored..It’s a very interesting take about prejudice too. It’s not what I had expected — it was better.
The whole holoband concept was also something un-expected and very entertaining.
The weird part from a connectivity point of view though – is the cylons predate Daniel Greystone by thousands of years according to BSG. So is Daniel really one of the final 7? He isn’t really inventing the Cylons but rather re-inventing them right?
Overall a really great start and a show that we are very much looking forward to watching weekly soon!
Dollhouse Season (Series?) Finale Omega REVIEW May 10, 2009

The season finale (episode 12) of Dollhouse was an interesting – if not confusing- episode.
After chasing the dollhouse for 11 TV hours, Agent Ballard is now a dollhouse contractor.
We find out the Doctor is really a doll herself and that Alpha was a messed up dude from very early on.
What we didn’t have is a proper cliffhanger or even an ending for this show ..it just kinda ran out of time didn’t it?
Will they find Caroline? maybe but is that the chase? find alpha? I guess that’s neat. Considering that FOX is now apparently considering cancelling Dollhouse, Omega is not a good final episode at all.
There is a 13th episode that apparently will only be available on the Season One DVD..let’s hope that FOX pulls itself together, shows the 13th episode and renews Dollhouse for Season Two.
