Doctor Who Journey’s End Edited by CBC in Canada December 13, 2008

What a joke. The CBC in Canada aired the final episode of Doctor Who season 4 (4×13) in Canada on Friday night – in a bastardized edited form that made the show impossible to watch.
The CBC editted nearly 20 minutes out of the episode which was the season finale!
There are a lot of people that are complaining about this (check out the CBC forums) .
Was the show too long? Something politically incorrect in it? Too much nudity?? What?!! Why would the CBC do such a thing? It’s just madness.
CBC is funded by the Canadian taxpayers. I suggest that all Canadian’s demand a refund.
Battlestar Galactica Face of the Enemy #1 Webisode December 12, 2008

So here we are after months of no Battlestar Galactica our first new content..HURRAY.
Yes, Lt. Gaeta is gay – ok so what? It’s a simple 2 second kiss in passing and it is totally natural in the flow of the show.
Beyond that revelation of Gaeta’s orientation what have we so far? Well we’ve got the basics for an interesting trip. Gaeta stuck on a Raptor that is lost with Grace Park (two of ’em), not that it matters to Gaeta as we now know – he’s not interested.
But let’s all hope that at some point during the 10 webisodes – we hear Felix Gaeta sing –

Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica days may be numbered but it doesn’t look like he’s a golden boy for everything.
FOX apparently is pushing back on Moore’s Virtuality show that we first wrote about back in April. Basically its a ship in long duration flight – with a crew have virtual reality experiences throughout the journey.
According to the Hollywood Reporter:
The two-hour backdoor sci-fi pilot “Virtuality,” might stay in consideration for May and be reworked as a more mainstream drama.
Remember friends – this is FOX. The same network that killed Firefly and is now butchering Sarah Connor Chronicles…so i suppose we didn’t have much cause to be hopeful in the first place.

Starbuck (aka not a cylon) is our fav character on Battlestar Galactica.
Apparently Sci Fi Channel wants viewers to look at her chest –
that is if this new teaser add for the new season is any indication.
New season starts in two week – and the webisodes start tomorrow (Dec 12th) at Noon ET on SciFi.com!!

Yes most trailers are pretty sweet (except for Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica). The Terminator Salvation (aka T4) has got everything you could want – terminators, hunter-killers big harvestor robots all of the place
Oh and Christian Bale. Unlike the whimp on Sarah Connor Chronicles Bale is a DuDe that is entirely believeable as a leader among men.

Ok it’s official as far as we’re concerned. Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles sucks.
Tonight’s episode was total garbage. There was more dead air (and not the shooting kind) than dialogue or actual action.
The show was so bad to be honest we could NOT watch it end to end -we watched much of it in PIP window while watching The Big Bang Theory – and switching to see when something looked like it might be happening.
It’s a darn shame – we really had high hopes for this show in the beginning – the new season looked like it good be a good one too – but it’s not. I’ts just a waste of time at this point and I doubt we’ll bother to watch another live episode again – much easier to record and then fast forward through the garbage….which is most of the show.
Star Trek Destiny : Gods of Night – The best Star Trek series ever? December 7, 2008

Star Trek Destiny is a new trilogy that includes Picard’s Enterprise, Riker’s Titan and Dax’s Aventine as well as the NX-02 Columbia (among others)
It’s an awesome sweep of the Star Trek universe and one that is brilliantly crafted to include all of the characters of the Star Trek Universe from Picard to Paris and everyone in between.
The basics on one side are simple – the Borg are back and this time Assimiliation isn’t their goal. This time they are out to destroy the entire Federation. Beyond that simple plot mechanism is a story that accessable yet enjoyably complex and layered.
The revelation on the last page of this first book of the Trilogy (no spoilers here) was AMAZING. I did not see that coming.
We’re currently reading book two of this series and it too is awesome so far. It’s just astounding how one author has been able to have such an incredible grasp of all these characters and make it all so fluid, seemless and totally mesmermizing.

Doctor Who Series 4 is easily one of the best seasons of Doctor Who in a long long long time.
The return of the Daleks in this episode is fantastic – and it sure is great to see Davros once again (btw where is the MASTER?).
Having all of the Doctor’s friends and companions aligned in this episode is also great – with the funniest easily being the ex prime minister – with the Daleks noting that they know who she is.
For year Doctor Who fans have called the Daleks the most fearsome of all the Doctor’s enemies – I still have a problem with them though…they are basically rolling trash cans with limited mobility. Yes i know they can hover now but come one i would expect that the human commandoes would be quicker than the Dalek army and able to take them out.

Asaaj Ventress is awesome! We knew that Gunray would get rescued but that was great.
And Senate Commandoes? Guess those are the predessecors to the Red Imperial Guards.
All told a tonne of action for a 30 min episode – there was hardly a 3 minutes sequence without some kind of intense action.
That’s what makes this new animated series superb – decent stories- evil villans and non-stop action

The ship got sick! Great stuff…and great to see Wraith drone warriors without their masks on too.
Darn shame the treatment doesn’t work to help the Wraith…but
Ultimately this episode was about Sheppard and Todd and the bond between the two.
It’s a bond that we’ll see again – hopefully before the series ends in three more episodes…it totally sucks that SciFi Channel has cancelled the show.

I did not see that one coming – first of all . Walter is the root of all technology in the show – good or bad. It’s a neat concept but what that is really starting to get very tired.
So he built a teleporter – not a time machine – that took the ‘gentleman’ to the little hill.
neat.
Bad guys passing through wall – like the phase inverter that stranded one of Riker’s ships on Star Trek (remember the show with the Teleporter..). Ok maybe not a totally unique idea. but still fun.
A fun episode overall though – and it will be interesting to see how AGent Dunham is rescued and by whom – i’ll put an early guess that it will be Massive!
Battlestar Galactica Caprica gets Ordered by Sci Fi Channel December 3, 2008

Ok so maybe we were a little hasty in calling Caprica dead the other week.
Sci Fi channel has now ordered 20 hours of the Battlestar Galactica prequel. Originally it was supposed to have a pilot this month but now it looks like that pilot will show up sometime in 2009 with the full series likely to debut in 2010.
The pilot trailer looks like frakking crap to me – but hey with 20 hours now booked – maybe they can build this up and actually make this as cool as BSG itself.
Set 50 years before “Battlestar Galactica,” “Caprica” follows two rival families — the Graystones and the Adamas — as they grow, compete, and thrive in the vibrant world of the 12 Colonies, a society recognizably close to our own. Enmeshed in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons, the two houses go toe-to-toe blending action with corporate conspiracy and sexual politics. “Caprica” will deliver all of the passion, intrigue, political backbiting and family conflict in television’s first science fiction family saga. As the series begins, a startling development is about to occur — the creation of the first cybernetic life-form node or “Cylon” — the ability to marry artificial intelligence with mechanical bodies. Joseph Adama (Morales) — father of future “Battlestar” commander William Adama (Najafi) — a renowned civil liberties lawyer, becomes an opponent of the experiments undertaken by the Graystones (Stoltz), owners of a large computer corporation that is spearheading the development of these living robots: the Cylons.

To be honest we haven’t been regular Superman collectors in years – but that
changed with this new storyline – Superman New Krypton – a nine issue cross-over event.
The basic story is simple – Braniac years ago captured a Kryptonian city – Kandor –
(saving it in the process) and now Superman has saved the city and 100,000 Kryptonian’s are now living on Earth.
It’s a great premise and one that challenges the notion of Superman being special (supergirl aside) – since there are now 100,000 people just like him flying around Earth.
It started off in a one issue special edition – then moved over to Superman #681 – and then over to Action
Comics #871 where we get to see more of what Kryptonian’s are really up to –
from there to Supergirl (didn’t care for that issue).
The latest issue is Superman #681 New Krypton part 6. The Kryptonian’s now actually kill humans and this is clearly a turning point. General Zod (remember him from the Superman II movie ?) still has followers loyal to him and they seem to be stirring up some trouble.
Oh and remember the Phantom Zone ? Yeaaah it’s back too.
So for this comic book fan – after years and years of not reading Superman regularly – here I am back reading Superman again thanks to this New Krypton storyline. It’s great that anew issue is out every week – which sure makes a big difference too.
Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles – T-888 1920’s style December 1, 2008

So the T-888 was hidden in a wall waiting for 80 years to shoot someone.
NEAT.
This was a great episode for Cameron – maybe her best yet. She’s a methodical killing machine – with a gun or with research. It was a really interesting treat to see how Cameron noticed the terminator in the past and pieced all the threads together to figure out where he was in the present.
Now as for John Conner – he’s still a mega wimp – and a lame acting job overall. Every episode i’m hoping he’ll get whacked or better yet shaken up so he becomes a more likeable character.

Just as the case the last two half season – we’re going to get 10 webisodes this time around.
The official title of the Webisode series is, “The Face of the Enemy,” and Felix Gaeta is the major character.
There is also rumor that the webisodes will ‘out’ Gaeta as he is expected to have a real ‘male bonding” scene with another male character.
Not sure this will be as interesting as the flashback stuff we had prior to season 4 when we saw the younger Adama – Husker – kick Cylon arse – that was cool. Oh and don’t forget the season 3.5 webisode’s Resistance where we saw the going-ons of new Caprica.
Until we see what’s going on with Earth and the final Cylon – not sure that anything else really matters for Battlestar Galactica.
Ghostbusters : The Other Side issues 1&2 – I ain’t afraid of no ghost December 1, 2008

We all remember the classic Ghostbusters movie – but what happens after the movie?

That’s where this new comic series comes in – the basic plotline in issues 1&2 is that that Ghostbusters get ‘whacked’ and end up as Ghosts themselves.
What happens when a Ghostbuster becomes a ghost?
Good question – so far (issue 1 and 2) it’s alot of figuring out what’s going on – but i suspect that issued 3 and 4 we’ll actually see the answer appear.
Will they become ‘mortal’ again? i dunno – but i’d bet so – in any event – solid storytelling and decent art makes this a fun read.

Last issue was solid but this issue was non stop cover to cover action.
What a great kriffing issue. The double cross (or maybe triple cross?) is in with the Muir Talisman and its human host vs Cade Skywalker vs. Darth Krayt vs. The Imperial Knights.
Will Karness Muir take hold of Cade? (maybe next issue) – but still seeing Krayt in this position is awesome – i doubt we’ll see the end of Krayt, but hey anything can happen.
and what about Darth Talon (aka the Sith Hottie?) SHE’S BAAACK and she still has the hots for Cade (where was Delilah Blue ?)
The artwork – always great in Legacy was ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT in this issue – the cell arrangement and powerful imagery is what great storytelling and great comic books are all about.
But of course this issue is just a stepping stone to the final issue of Vector!! Vector before it hit Legacy was kinda ok – in Legacy it got real good real fast.
I suspect that Karness Muir and/or the Talisman will be destroyed – but that somehow Celeste Morne survives (but maybe i’m wrong). In any event it will bring to a close a year of wondering where this would end – and it might be the end for Krayt too.

A standard Sci Fi plot tool here – what happens if one simple action doesn’t occur – it ends up unravelling a Tapestry (yes a pun on the Star Trek TNG episode Tapestry) that in this episode’s case is the whole of Donna Noble’s experience with Doctor this season.
Brilliantly executed and a nice romp through all the events thus far – so a good hour of SciFi.
The best part (for us) was clearly the end when Donna realizes that she won’t make it in time to change her actions in the past and makes a decision – that ultimately changes her history.
As for the time distortion insect on her back – that wasn’t terribly clear to us – but still not a bad idea.
Every season needs a recap episode of sorts – and this is it for Series Four – it’s all go forward from here.
