V is for (victory) REMAKE. How slimy is that? October 11, 2008

V is coming back to TV but not as a sequel as we first would have guessed – but as a remake.
tHAT Just sucks. The original V was awesome and doesn’t need a remake – there is also a perfectly good legitimate sequel that should be made. V the Second Generation is written by the original author of V and is the proper successor to V not some remake.
According to SciFi Wire:
The new V will center on Erica Evans, a Homeland Security agent with an aimless son who’s got problems. When the aliens arrive, her son gloms on to them, causing tension within the family. As in the original V, several storylines will unfold simultaneously…As in the ’80s version, the show will open with an enormous army of spaceships hovering over the world’s major cities.Original V writer-producer-director Kenneth Johnson recently attempted to revive V as V: The Second Generation but is not involved in the Peters version.
What a shame!!

What a FANTASTIC episode!!! The bad dudes are really Evil Asgard! who saw that coming? The Asgard are the prime benefactors of humanity without whom Earth wouldn’t have hyperdrive ships/shields or weapons and in Pegasus they will now be an enemy (of sorts).
We get some Traveller action – but not Laryn – Col. Sheppard’s girlfriend..
And Todd goes native – so now he’s a bad guy again and they the Atlanteans still haven’t tested the treatement that would led the Wraith eat regular food which was the whole purpose of the meeting in the first place!
Finally – Dr. Keller – lets Ronon down – that was soo …awkward to watch but well played.
Paul of Dune – REVIEW October 11, 2008

What? Another Dune prequel? Yup. But dont’ be discouraged this one is awesome.
Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson have done many Dune prequels (House Atreides, House Harkonnen, House Corrino and pre-prequels – (The Butlerian Jihad (Legends of Dune, Book 1), The Machine Crusade (Legends of Dune, Book 2) and The Battle of Corrin (Legends of Dune, Book 3)) .
Paul of Dune is actually a prequel for Dune Messiah – a more direct sequel to the original Dune. Or is it?
Half of Paul of Dune deals with events before the Original Dune. The point is supposed to show how events in Paul Atreides past influenced his decisions as the Emperor. It’s not a bad idea going back and forth with the different time periods and it bring us back to that Golden era of Dune with Duke Leto and the Baron Vladamir Harkonnen still alive and both at each other’s throats.
The future part – with Paul as Emperor is brilliantly written and fills the gap that the original Dune series always had. To be honest, the original Dune novel was always my favorite and Paul of Dune is truly a more fitting sequel than what had previously been available.
Yes this is a great read – and a must READ for all Dune fans –

Everyone loves Battlestar Galactica right? especially NBC (Sci Fi Channel is an NBC Universal company after all. This week’s Office had a hilarious bit where Jim is trying to time all of the ‘personal’ time that Dwight takes at work – So Jim strikes up a conversation about Battlestar Galactica with a co-workers – getting all the facts wrong – to try and get Dwight to take the bait..
Must see TV!!

Not bad…we meet yet another T-888 killing machine and yet another key figure from the future.
The best parts of the Sarah Connor Chronicles in my view are the flash forward glimpses of the future. John does a little growing up in this episode and isn’t the whiny beaatch that he’s been the previous four episodes.
That said – where was Cameron? why wasn’t she out there protecting John too?
Overall the worst part of this show – and this series so far this season – is the lack of flow and momentum. The shows are often so moody and plodding that the hour the show is on seems more like 2 hours.
If this show is to survive – it really needs to pick up the pace. A lot.
Sanctuary TV Series Premiere – too weird? October 6, 2008

First off – in the spirit of full disclosure – we haven’t watched any of the Santuary webisodes first – (yes i know LAME ‘O).
But with Amanda Tapping (Stargate’s Col. Carter) at the helm we had to watch this first episode on the big TV screen. To say the least Sanctuary is a ‘weird’ show.
The basic idea to provide Sanctuary to all creatures is a nice idea – but the streeeeeeeeeeeeetch of having a Victorian era scientist who has been alive for 150 years and who created Jack the Ripper – come on..that’s just a little lame and cliched isn’t it?
Acting in this episode was great and their is no question that there is great potential for this show as there are a whole lot of monsters out there…
Still on the paranormal front we’ve now got Fringe on network TV and let’s be honest here – in a contest between Fringe and Sanctuary what show would you rather watch?

The Seperatist secret weapon – an Ion canon apparently – first looked like a predessecor to the Death Star’s main gun – which is probably is – but I would’ve called it an EMP pulse since its main goal was disruption of all electrical activity.
Still an awesome weapon that leaves no survivors….now why other troopers didn’t figure out that they could leave their escape pods and engage the hunter droids..i dunno..

The series premiere of Star Wars Clone Wars the second animated series – was pretty solid wasn’t it?
Yoda is awesome and he kicked more droid tail in this episode and had more action than we’ve ever seen from Yoda (though his fight with Dooku in Episode II was awesome).
Seeing the Toydarian homeworld was neat too – but where was Watto? (just kidding).
No shortage of action overall animation for the non-human characters is great..the humans look like walking sticks and their plastered hair is just annoying – but a small annoyance in the bigger scheme of things.
Great to see Ventress being no match at all for Yoda…to bad he didn’t decide to just end here and be done with it.
Overall a great start to what looks to be a really fun series to watch.

Fringe 1×04 The Arrival- Is The Pattern All About Aliens? October 1, 2008

So four episodes into Fringe and we see a key actor in the Pattern – the bald headed jalepno eating man – (not to be confused with X-Files smoking man). The bald man saved both Dr. Baldwin and his son as well as bee the “observer” the watches for the arrival of the cylindar and other pattern related objects.
The dude was writing in an alien language clearly and likely isn’t of the Earth.
So…back to X-Files .. a neat show about paranormal events that all eventually led to alien DNA – will Fringe degenerate into the same nonsense?
Don’t get me wrong – so far this is a great show – i just hope that the answer to what is the pattern? isn’t just a – oh it’s aliens – answer.

So Vector finally hits Star Wars Legacy…but it really seems like a stretch to me..so Celeste Morne just floats in space for over a hundred years…waiting??
And Celeste hasn’t aged a day?
I dunno..it’s a really really weak link from the last Vector issue in Rebellion.
But the weak link aside — this is what Celeste was born to do…an ancient Jedi with an ancient Sith to team up against Darth Krayt and destroy the Sith..
Frankly Vector has been less than spectacular overall..but Legacy of course is awesome which no doubt will rub off on Vector..but make no mistake about it..it’s not Vector that will make Legacy better but Legacy which will make Vector better.
If Dark Horse is ever to attemp such a multi-timeline story again i hope they just do a time travel – force flow walking thing. The linear timeline here just sucks.

Interesting episode – we get our first real insight into Cameron (Summer Glau- who had a real life before as a human called Allison Young. Allison also knew John Conner which makes the “I love you” comment to John earlier this season even more interesting.
Why Cameron had this flashback episode – who knows but makes for some great backstory. Makes sense that Skynet would base its infiltrators on real humans.
Now what about Shirley Manson character – a T1000 – having a daughter! What’s up with that? Is she also a machine?
The best part of this episode? NOT MUCH WHINING FROM JOHN CONNOR!! He’s such a wimp!

Always great to see Dr. Daniel Jackson – and Todd the Wraith is an awesome character too…big question here is
Who those armored dudes? Are the descendants of Janus? Ancients? Other Pegasus Galaxy sentients??
Does the Atano device (the field that destroys Wraiths hyperdrives) destroy all stargates throughout Pegasus too?
Lot of questions for sure. No doubt Col.Sheppard survives the blast in the gate room that’s easy..the other questions not so much.
Let’s make a few guesses here – the armored dudes are in facts directly connected to the Ancient Atlanteans somehow (maybe robot shell for their consciousness?) and let’s also assume that any gate that was activated during the time the device was activated was destroyed (which would mean many but not all gates in Pegasus are now gone).
It will be Todd (not Sheppard) and Ronon that will save Jackson and McKay, making for yet another interesting twist..
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (the graphic novel) REVIEW September 25, 2008

I bought the Dark Horse graphic novel version of Star Wars the Force Unleashed the week before the game came out, i started to read it before playing the game and then stopped.
What ended up happening is we wanted to see how the game compared to the graphic novel – so we as we are playing the game we’re reading the graphic novel – sort of like a recap.
The graphic novel IS NOT a direct correlation to the game play (at least not the Wii version). Bascially it’s all told from a flashback point of view by Proxy and Juno who are explaining the origins of the Rebellion to Senator Organa.
Also the ‘Secret Apprentice’ is referred to as ‘Starkiller’ the whole time too.
The story does not have all the same back and forth as the game – in particular it is completely lacking in the (multiple) trip back to Coruscant to see the Jedi Temple (fight Darth Phobos and others).
The syncronisity with the video game aside – this is one great graphic novel. It’s such a great story that tucks so neatly into the existing star wars canon.
Just like Palpatine seeded the Seperatists that led to the Clone Wars so to did he seed the Rebellion (though not with the same results he had hoped). It makes great sense.
If you’re playing the game – you will enjoy the graphic novel. If you’re not playing the game – WHAT THE FRAK IS WRONG WITH YOU?? – but you will LOVE THIS GRAPHIC NOVEL!!

John Hodgeman – you know the dude who does PC on the Apple commercial (and former staffer on John Stewart’s Daily Show) is coming to Battlestar Galactica.
Apparently he’s playing a doctor in an upcoming episode of Galactica. In an interview with Wired Hodgeman says:
Well, I always had this desire to celebrate and somehow be a part of things that I thought were really great. When I wrote about Battlestar Galactica for The New York Times Magazine in 2005, I was mainly geeking out about the fact that I was standing on the set, you know? So it was very unnerving and surreal to go from being the guy who wrote about Galactica to making a cameo appearance as a doctor in an upcoming episode.
Uh huh. Blue screen of death for the Cylons then – those toasters are scrap metal now.

A ‘ghost’ network for transmitting information, and more conspiracies into the pattern.
Neat episode and great twist at the end – not sure who is the bad guy and who isn’t are we?
Now the piano playing part – that’s a little cheesy – but hey a minor thing in a show that seems to be picking up the pace and maturing nicely into a must see TV show.

Or should we call this Sith spawn demon – Darth Hazen?
What an awesome storyline and one of the best pieces of cover art that I’ve seen in recent years from Dark Horse – simply amazing.
But back to the story – so it’s been this dude Hazen all along that has been pushing the direction for the Covenant?
Where did that come from? For the last two years we’ve been following this storyline and BAAAAAAAAAM now this.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great twist and this a great issue. We know have the final resolution at hand of this whole series – i wonder what will be left when this arc is done…

This show continues to get worse week after week. The acting is deplorably bad and the pacing is all wrong.
John Conner is a total wimp. The Cameron character – in this episode was week. Charlie (who looses his wife in this episode)..COME ON..i’ve seen better acting from cardboard.
And what!!! Terminators can’t swim? really?
