Last issue was solid but this issue was non stop cover to cover action.
What a great kriffing issue. The double cross (or maybe triple cross?) is in with the Muir Talisman and its human host vs Cade Skywalker vs. Darth Krayt vs. The Imperial Knights.
Will Karness Muir take hold of Cade? (maybe next issue) – but still seeing Krayt in this position is awesome – i doubt we’ll see the end of Krayt, but hey anything can happen.
and what about Darth Talon (aka the Sith Hottie?) SHE’S BAAACK and she still has the hots for Cade (where was Delilah Blue ?)
The artwork – always great in Legacy was ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT in this issue – the cell arrangement and powerful imagery is what great storytelling and great comic books are all about.
But of course this issue is just a stepping stone to the final issue of Vector!! Vector before it hit Legacy was kinda ok – in Legacy it got real good real fast.
I suspect that Karness Muir and/or the Talisman will be destroyed – but that somehow Celeste Morne survives (but maybe i’m wrong). In any event it will bring to a close a year of wondering where this would end – and it might be the end for Krayt too.

A standard Sci Fi plot tool here – what happens if one simple action doesn’t occur – it ends up unravelling a Tapestry (yes a pun on the Star Trek TNG episode Tapestry) that in this episode’s case is the whole of Donna Noble’s experience with Doctor this season.
Brilliantly executed and a nice romp through all the events thus far – so a good hour of SciFi.
The best part (for us) was clearly the end when Donna realizes that she won’t make it in time to change her actions in the past and makes a decision – that ultimately changes her history.
As for the time distortion insect on her back – that wasn’t terribly clear to us – but still not a bad idea.
Every season needs a recap episode of sorts – and this is it for Series Four – it’s all go forward from here.

It’s December almost and we were supposed to see the Battlestar Galactica prequel Caprica this month. (We saw the trailer back in July.)
But we won’t and that sucks.
According to TV Guide : “Though Sci Fi once planned to air Caprica in December, it’s now on hold, pending the final episodes of Battlestar Galactica. It definitely won’t see the light of day until after the BSG series finale … but also maybe not at all.”

After three years and 35 issues this is it.
Zayne is finally vindicated. It should be a moment of triumph and climax –
BUT IT’S NOT.
This is a weak issue and one that insults the loyal readers that stuck with this book for the last three years. After everything that happened to Zayne in the very first issue we expected more – a lot more.
Zayne goes into to see the Jedi council but – do we see what happens? NOPE.
Instead Hazen (who was awesome) gets nuked from orbit – which was cool – and Zayne gets cleared.
I don’t know it’s an anti-climax and a letdown. Maybe after three years of buildup – no matter what happened would have been a downer.
Will we continue to read this title? SURE – I want to see Darth Malak, Revan and the Exile.

Here’s the short review – the third Futurama movie is easily the worst of the bunch. But that doesn’t mean it’s bad – it’s just that it’s not as good as either Bender’s Big Score or The Beast with a Billon Backs.
We knew that this would be a Dungeon’s and Dragons Lord of the Rings spoof fest – but there really wasn’t anything that innovative or knee-slappingly funny here.
Yes it was entertaining and yes i actually paid for the DVD – having the Nibblonians being the source of all dark matter – and the whole crap factory thing – SURE that’s funny and the real saving grace for the whole movie.
I just think that more could have been done even on the ‘normal’ side of the D&D game as well as the Dark Matter angles in terms of things that were more than just spoof. Bender (as always) steals the show here and his medieval knight is awesome.
So expect to be entertained but don’t expect to watch a ‘classic’ that you’ll want to watch again and again.

As we get closer and closer to the January 2009 re-start for Battlestar Galatica the trailers are gonna come fast and furious.
This week we’ve got the ‘epic journey’ trailer. No big surprises here – Roslyn hooking up with the elder Adama, Starbuck communicating with a hybrid..but the big surprise is behind the scenes – who is the fifth??

I did not see that one coming.
Riley is from the future – go figure.
Then again – John Connor so far has been a mega whiney BEAATCH so why would any woman want to be with him unless it was her mission? kinda makes sense but still a real nice surprise and the first great plot twist so far this year.
Ohh and Cromartie is back – but now he’s John Henry – the future SkyNet.
The overall pacing in this show is wrong — it’s deadly boring in parts and then you get the big plot twists – it sure could use some better editing and overall production direction to create a tighter pacing.
Still, the show progresses and it’s progress (slowly) but nicely isn’t it?

An interesting episode where the Doctor is on a transport ship without windows and something goes ‘bump’ in the night…
Why the ship didn’t have windows – i don’t understand.
BUT the character interactions of how they all turn and get hostile with on another was brilliant and solid drama.
What was the creature? I don’t know but it doesn’t matter. As an exercise in human emotions of fear, anger this episode stands on its own.

Kinda cheesy episode don’t ya think?
We know that Keller and McKay hook-up – and having this little episode to show how their relationship grows in a situation is I guess – necessary.
McKay dropping his work to go save Dr. Keller was noble – and her telling him that she loves him was ‘sweet’.
Overall though a relatively lame episode though and not one that we’re likely to want to watch again for any particular reason.

That’s right – Han Solo originally was supposed to be married to a wookie. So Solo would have had his own ‘shag carpet’ if you will. And no I don’t think it was a gay thing with Chewbacka either.
Seriously though it’s true.
In an interview up on StarWars.com celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars Holiday Special
According to Lenny Ripps: Co-Author, Original Script the Holiday Special, Han Solo was supposed to be married to a wookie and was in fact raised by wookies.
Pat Proft corroborates it and an early draft of the Star Wars script (January 28, 1975) has Han Solo living with a furry female creature who he kisses. Proft also remembers learning that Han was raised by Wookiees, which is verified on pages 46 & 131 of Laurent Bouzereau’s Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays.

The Millenium Falcon is arguably the most famous ship in the entire Star Wars canon. This is the book where we finally find out the true history of this great ship.
It’s an entertaining romp that takes us back and forth in time as we encounter each of the Falcon’s owners – and follow Han Solo, Leia and Allanna on their journey.
The writing in this book is crisp and the plot flows brilliantly from page to page – making this a true page turner.
This book follows chronologically from the last Legacy of the Force book where Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus dies – but there is little direct connection between this book and that – except for Allana being a traveller with Solo.
The only problem with this great book – unfortunately is the end which is terribly dissapointing. After such a brilliant build-up we finally get to the location where the secret the Falcon has been keeping for 70 years lay hidden.
And it MAKES NO SENSE.
Why would the Republic Group have sent Jadak to recover that? Wouldn’t they still have wanted it to stay hidden? It’s just lame.
Overall though a great book – I just wish the end would have been thought out a bit better instead of being total nonsense.
SciFi Mags Struggling? November 19, 2008

There is a really interesting article up on the PBS.org site now about the current state of the Science Fiction magazine market. At this point there are only three left: Analog, Asimov’s and the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction.
Personally speaking, we still buy Asimov’s regularly – though we don’t have a subscription.
The latest circulation numbers for the print mags aren’t great:
Analog, the best performing of the three, had fallen to a paid circulation of 27,399, while Asimov’s dropped 5.2% to 17,581. But the Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction saw the sharpest decline — 11.2% from the previous year — to a paid circulation of 16,489.
PBS want to lay some of the blame on the Web – but that’s nonsense. The people that buy those mags aren’t going online to read fiction the same kind of fiction. Those mags have a tactile feel that is still different.
We read lots online – but the scifi mags are still a very different animal. Often we’ve found that not all book stores carry the mags and if they do they’re not as easy to find as they once were. Actually trying to get a subscription to these mag is a difficult thing too.
Buying a subscription should include some kind of benefit – at least a reduced cost over buying at the newstand – but that doensn’t seem to be the case. For us it’s still cheaper to buy Asimov’s issue by issue.

We know that David Tennant’s days as the good doctor are numbered. One of those numbers is the upcoming christmas special – The Next Doctor – which air in the UK in three weeks.
The BBC posted its first preview the other day in the middle of a telethon it was running. It sure looks like a Dickens Doctor Who Xmas to me…

As a kid i remember watching the Star Wars Holiday special and thinking it was great – no one else did though and it has been erased from the Star Wars canon – but not YouTube.
Sure the songs are cheesy.
Sure the little Boba Fett cartoon looks like it was made from trash
Yes it’s grainy and the acting is pathetic
Ok the wookies look like walking carpets (hey! that’s Leia’s line)
But its kitchy and fun in a 70’s disco kind a way…but it sure is more palatable in just a five minute segment – so here ya go if you haven’t seen this editted 5 min version yet. And happy 30th anniversary Star Wars special!!

Last week Cromartie got shot up and buried. But he didn’t get burned to a crisp.
So he’s BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCK.
(yeah i know – some of you told me so – ok you’re right).
Agent Ellison has unwittingly become the architect for the rise of the machines now that Cromartie’s remains have been retrieved. Just like how the hand in Terminator 2 led to skynet – now it’s Cromartie’s turn.
The whole time paradox thing with Fischer was also really quite neat, albeit a little confusing. We haven’t heard or seen the ‘greys’ before have we?

Wow what a neat episode – especially that final little twist at the end – that was fantastic.
McKay is so smug and yet he too was fooled by the AI.
And that whole thing with Kolya coming back and chopping off Sheppard’s arm? that was brutal – and great TV.
How about Woolsey? At first a mega wimp and now a really great character in this show. He really has developed in the last few episodes into a fantastic asset to the show.
With only a few episodes to go, it’s great to see there are still some great plots that Stargate Atlantis has left in it – makes it a real shame that there won’t be a Season Six. This show isn’t as worn out at SG-1 and really still have a whole lot of life left.

The big ‘hook’ in the Life on Mars show is – what the frak is going on with this dude?
Is he alive? Dead? Parallel Universe or just dreaming in a coma?
Well this week’s episode – he saves hostages in a hospital – gives us the clearest picture yet that Sam Tyler indeed is in a coma.
Or maybe not.
Guess we’ll just have to ride this show out to see what the deal is.
In the meantime the show continues to be a great 70’s cop show with 2008 sensibilities. It’s one of our favorite shows of the week to watch.

So we get another dead guy that Walter wants to mind read. Wait a sec didn’t we do that in the first episode of this show too? Was’t there another method?
Also this show is great – but starting to get a little too predictable at this point.
Here’s a Pattern for you.
If someone is dying of a strange ailment – they’re part of the pattern (Agent Scott or otherwise) and somehow are conspiring against the FBI to get the G-men to do their dirty work for them.

That was idiotic.
Well let’s recap – the various stories (Sarah’s, John’s Cameron’s etc) in this episode were well crafted and a nice plot vehicle
The way Cromartie died was lame.
You mean to tell me that the FBI with more gunners couldn’t take him out but two people in a mexican Church crossfire could?
That’s just dumb. Sure you have to suspend belief for a show like this – but PAAALEASE have it someone logical.
Cromartie was the first Terminator of this series and now he’s gone. Does that mean there are no more terminators hunting the connors in the current era? Not likely. But it does take out the big threat.

Well we never saw the body – so the answer has to be No. Also the dude clones everything so there is likely a Michael clone out there somewhere.
So how did Michael get control of Atlantis so easily? Yeaah the stun bubble..
Easily the best part of this episode was the ending when Ronon surprised Mr. Woolsey by giving him his audio filed report. Michael attacked atlantis. We fought him off. End of report.
Classic.
But what about that other gate room woman Emelia? ? She was kick ass! I don’t recall seeing her before and i was a little disappointed that we didn’t see more of her – and what’s her T’eyla relegating her to baby holding duty?
